It strikes me as strange (even completely ironic) that there are people in here that don't care for Blu-ray. This seems like a forum where everyone is FOR movie preservation and the "best quality" in film. I've been for both for years.

I wouldn't be surprised if this were the general public, but this a film forum. Isn't it?! I bought my first HDTV at 22 in 2005. I recently bought one of the new 46" 1080p Aquos that has a higher contrast ratio than a freak'n plasma. The difference between Blu-ray and DVD on it is night and day. It's not even close.

When it comes to audio, I'm surprised by any real film fan that doesn't have at least 5.1 in their home. I bought my first 5.1 system when I was 18 and working at a tshirt company for $7 an hour.

Anyway, some people here don't strike me as film fans....maybe just hypothetical film fans? I hope that doesn't sound unkind, but I'm NOWHERE NEAR well to do, and those things are a staple in my home. Again, general public no....film forum...I kind of expected it.

I can certainly be wrong though. Heck I saw a "film buff" refer to natural grain in a fifty year old film on Blu-ray as ugly. I thought it was gorgeous. All the detail down to fabric fibers were there and the film grain was a natural part of that movie.
