If a project is sourced from an HDTV broadcast, and that movie has subsequently been made available for purchase on Blu-ray Disc, you are expected to own the BD before obtaining the fan project.

Well, since the HDTV broadcasts are not on blu-ray, then I don't have to get them, right?  And whats on Blu-ray, is not being broadcasted on HDTV......

Well, in that case. I will wait till Empire is available separately on BD ( on sale of course ), and then the same for Jedi, and A New Hope.  I'm not going to spend a load of cash on a box set just for Empire: Revisited.

If that's the new rule, I'm game. Good thing this edit has still a long way to go before release. Enough time for prices to drop or get it used, single discs  as Auggie says. I'm in absolutely no rush to get the BDs.

Personally I think its a silly rule.

The television broadcasts are the 2004SE, I have the DVDs, I've paid for them four times (because my sister and god children wanted them), the television broadcasts are not available on blu-ray (the resolution is different from the BD sets and they have different properties).

Naturally I will follow the rules of this site but I shan't get the blu-rays for a very long time (I don't even have the equipment to play them and anyone I know who might want them and does have the equipment would probably buy them for themselves).

QUESTION FOR ADYWAN:

it's funny how taking a fresh look at EMPIRE on a new format such as the BLU RAY, suddenly a scene that you never would have thought twice about, stands out like dogs balls. don't kill me if it's already been discussed, but I didn't see any mention of it on the first pages outlining  Adywans changes

I'm referring to the MYNOCK  scene inside the asteroid/slug, when they go out to investigate, there's a tense noise then  Han yells "WATCH OUT!" then shoots what appears to be an already dead motionless mynock off the hull of the ship and it just drops to the ground without moving.

Is there anyway of doing something with the mynock to make it look like it might actually pose a threat?, maybe a a flurry of movement or a threatening flap of its wings?, or just tighten up the editing so that it looks like Han's reaction wasn't a case of massive over-reacting?   as it is the rest of Mynock 'attack'  doesn't look very effective, the puppets they used were very basic and limited in their wing movement.

Yes, thats the point I'm trying to make. The HDTV broadcasts are essentially the 2004SE. I already own the 2004SE. This HD for HD rule makes no sense especially when the source material is not the same. The BD's are a different release. So why pay the content providers for a fan edit thats based from a release that I have already paid for?

I disagree, but this is not the place to complain about the rules anyway.

ESB:R will be a mixture of HDTV and Blu-Ray sources, with the Blu-Ray being the main source for the edit. I'm just completing transferring the colour correction to the Blu-Ray and then i'll be reapplying the FX work to the sections that are using the new source.
REALLY?! Interesting!

You know what? That's interesting.

You catch on pretty quick.

That's one good thing about them not messing with the colors, I guess!

This is probably a dumb question, but what is the advantage of using the Blu-Ray as the main source rather than the HDTV source? Is the Blu-Ray better quality/higher resolution?

While being the same resolution, the Blu-ray is much less compressed, making finer details even more fine.

Ady are you using plain layers from creating and animating the starfield?

I noticed that they lack of distortion. When there is movement.

Any ideas to make like there is a big sphere that in the great movement shows some depth?

I think the 3d space that used in PT were more realistic. Just a thought

like a camera distortion helps the effect if you know what i mean.

Does that mean the final edit will now be in 1080p?

Author

Most likely not since all his visual effects were mostly likely done in a 720p format. Am I wrong?

All of the existing elements are in 720p, and I don't think he's going to do them all over again. I've always thought 720p was a good balance between file size, working resolution (to be edited on home PCs), and picture quality. It may be time to recreate the Admiral Ozzel Hat Resolution Comparison Image again. ;-)

Well it's still a long time off before I need give my ethics barometer a tap.

It would be technically interesting to see the evolution of an ESB:R frame (from back when it was DVD sourced, then HD broadcast sourced, to BD sourced).
