I'm about half way through Disc 8.

The "fly through" of the Lucasfilm archives is a neat introduction. Unfortunately, now every potential master criminal in the world knows what George keeps in his nondescript barn on the ranch. :P

The rotating views of props models and costumes are pretty neat. At this resolution, the models are really showing their age. Vader's TIE appears to have been dropped at some point since it was shown on the old DC Laserdisc set. A bit of the front cockpit window is missing, and one of the wings is askew!

Seeing the prototype models is also really cool. The prequel ships could have looked more like them. ;)

Tons of pre-production art here. Some of it will be very familiar if you own "The Art Of" books for each film.

You can literally see the seams and stitches in some of the costumes.

It's interesting the matte paintings are about the shape and size of our modern video displays. The comparison wipes between them and movie footage leads to one goof though. The original Cloud City apartment painting wipes to it's CGI replacement. Whoops.

I would have personally liked to see even more props and costumes from each film than are shown here. An old fashioned Laserdisc style still gallery would not have taken up much space. Nor would the inclusion of the old Laserdisc extras.

The interview segments are really short, but informative. I never knew what was the first FX shot ILM actually completed for Star Wars.  A piece in the Dagobah section with Lucas discussing the Force sidetracks into prequel footage long enough to make you wonder if somebody goofed up.

It's irksome to see some vintage behind the scenes footage presented here in better video quality than the old documentaries got.

Can't say much about the deleted scenes that hasn't been said already elsewhere. Been waiting more than half my life to see some of these, and having them in HD warts and all is probably one saving grace of the whole hullabaloo. If you can get this disc by itself on Ebay, do it!

The "play all" feature is nice if you hate button mashing the remote through sub menus all day. (Or just want to watch the deleted scenes.) Being able to start at the beginning of the Empire or Jedi sections without skipping a hundred chapters to get to them would have been nice.

Will slog through the Jedi section tomorrow.

i finished it and am on disc 9 now. I found all the art work, interviews and overviews interesting. it was worth the watch.

I will never for get the line at the end of the Empire of Dreams doc on the DVDs...

"In 1997, Lucas would revisit and perfect his trilogy."

Dr. Pepper out my nose when I saw that one.

Huh...I wonder when he's going to release that version.

That's not the joke.  The joke is that he supposedly perfected them in 1997, yet he's altered them twice since then.  Hard to call that perfect, isn't it?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I'm not surprised. I'm one of them. I think its worth it. I just can't figure out if i liked the added "No" in ROTJ.

I'm one of them as well, and I don't really regret my purchase. I really do hate the "NOOOOOOO", though.

Fan backlash got rid of Luke's 97SE scream, though, so I'm hoping this will eventually disappear as well.

I think I am going to buy the set used for $70 on amazon, strip it of its bonus discs, then resell it for $60 with the note "MISSING ALL BONUS DISCS" in the description. For ten dollars under the going rate for a used set, I bet it would still resell quickly.

Or, you could download the 3 bonus discs from the Interwebz and provide another "up yours" to Lucas. ;)

You can find the bonus discs all by their lonesome on Ebay too.

Watched the Jedi section of Disc 8.

A couple little surprises here. A blooper from Star Wars where the mirror under the landspeeder falls off, and a glimpse of the "lightman" alien they couldn't get to work in Jabba's palace.

There are bits of the video storyboard for the speeder bike chase seen here that aren't in "Star Wars to Jedi". Would have been nice if it were shown in it's entirety, especially as split screen with the finished sequence. Someone forgot to correct Dennis Muren when he says G.I. Joe figures were used. It was Kenner SW figures of course. ;)

One of the movie transitions throws Wicket's new uber creepy eyes at you without warning. I blacked out for a couple minutes I think. :P

Some key props and models should be here but aren't. Jabba's barge and Vader's reveal helmet are no brainers. The metal bikini is represented to all perverted fanboy's delight.

Richard Marquand is curiously absent. (Is that his voice feeding lines to the rebel pilots?) They couldn't include even one vintage interview clip?

Harrison Ford on Lucas as a director seems misplaced here unless you subscribe to the backseat director theory.

Well, I figured if I do it this way I could score them for a little over $10 or so. How much do they go for on ebay.

Wouldn't want to dl them, not a fan of piracy, and pressed discs are nice. Plus, I don't have anyway to burn BD.

Yeah, the last thing we want to do on this site is encourage piracy. With all these fan-edits being made and such, we need to be sure we are being perfectly legal with any "up yourses" to Lucasfilm.

I for one will not buy the Blu-rays, but I will not download them either. I'm perfectly content with Adywan's Revisited and Dark_Jedi's enhanced GOUT discs, all derived from the DVD set that is owned by me (but collecting dust).

No more money will be spent by me until Lucas learns to respect his own films.

For anyone interested in such things....

Archives for the OT: 19.4GB
Archives for the PT: 30.3GB
Spoofs and Documentaries: 39.5GB

I'm not surprised that the OT gets the least coverage, but it's still sad. The condition of some of the models, props, paintings, etc. is seriously deteriorating, but it's cool seeing them in high definition. They could have included "From Star Wars to Jedi" and some other things to beef up the OT disc. I guess they'll be included in the 40-Disc Ultimate Special Anniversary Limited Deluxe Numbered Edition.

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

I think some of you people need to quit complaining about your starwars BD. You knew going into the store what you where getting. You accepted it and bought them.  What your getting is as good as it's going to get. If you don't like them take them back. Why keep them and complain, that just makes no sense. Embrace what you have for better and for worse, you willingly paid for it.
