Naive question #1

OK - you may laugh from me but I'm gonna ask it:

How come I can't find our banner at www.theforce.net ? Do they support us? If not, then maybe we should "persuade" them (use of Force Grip highly recommended) to do so...

It could generate more signatures than printed article - remember, people like to hop from one site to another - it's a matter of a one click. If you read newspaper you have to be at/get back to home/work in order to fire up your PC, remember about the article, type the url manually.... etc.

This doesn't mean I'm against articles - press on the press, all the way!

I hope that now, as we are on new server, we can stirr up things major time!

I gave up on theforce.net a while ago. Originally they were very gung-ho about the petition, even going so far as to offer to host it on their server. They were concerned about some of the performance issues we were having. I had some concerns of my own regarding site maintenance, so I decided to continue hosting it on my own. After I politely declined their offer, I stopped hearing from them. They posted that one article, and later on made a news post when we hit 20,000 signatures. I don't think they've posted anything since.

One thing I definitely need to do now that the move is complete is to update the supporting sites list. I've received tons of e-mails from many sites that are now linking to OT.com, but I haven't added them yet.

I think the new requirement for appearing on that list will be the actual presence of a permanent link somewhere on the supporter's web site. As I say in my FAQ section, there's a difference between pledging your support and actually lending your support.

Are all these big sites or are some of them personal webpages like mine and NileQTs? I know I've got a permanent Han Shoots First link on my homepage.

*steps out of the shadows from behind jay, and whispers into his ear:

motti: jay...
jay: argh! dammit you startled me again.
motti: yes i do that sometimes.
jay: you smell of alcohol, have you been drinking again?!?
motti: well, yes of course.
jay: what is it?
motti: want me to destroy theforce.net?
jay: you can do that?
motti: want me to?
jay: sure...
motti: excellent...

*steps away into the shadows again, followed by an alcoholic quiet burp.

Some are personal sites, some are entertainment- or DVD-related, some are completely off-topic. Many are smaller, but some have a decent readership.

I just think that if I'm going to link to someone's site, the least they could do is link back here and drum up some support. I understand that some large sites might have trouble with giving up a significant chunk of screen real estate for a link to us that would otherwise go toward advertising space (and therefore dollars). However, that's what support sometimes involves. And it's not like our banners are huge. I even offer custom sizes to people who request them (another task I've fallen way behind on).

HTF has a huge animated Flash banner right on their home page pointing to the petition. The Digital Bits has one of our animated banners right on their home page. They've been ardent supporters of the petition since the very beginning, along with many smaller sites.

It's all about getting the word out there.

Yeah. The list of sites currently on the petition itself is a small sample of the total number of sites that have pledged their support. I can't list them all there because the list would quickly get too large.

It's just a matter of me going through all of my old e-mails and compiling a list. I started making a list as they came in, but not right away, so I'll have to do some backtracking. I'll also have to look over the old posts in the supporting sites forum and compile a list of sites whose owners posted there.

Actually, if you want to do that, it would help a lot. I'd only need the site's URL. I don't think there are a large number of posts to go through in that forum either.

Do you just want the URL or do you want the site's name as well?

Before I add a site to the list I like to check it out first, so I'll grab the names when I do that. The URL is fine.

Thanks!

OK, since our move is complete and Jay's pleased with the server's performance I'm starting a major stirr up on TF.N. Yes, I'm a wicked, evil man.

So if any of you guys are registered please help me (by backing me up on the boards).
The thread on TF.N boards I'm talking about.

OK people, today I've sent a PM to TF.N admin Joshua Griffin with the following message:

Greetings Mr. Griffin,
I'm simple SW fan trying to make my way in the universe. I'm also one of over 33,000 fans who signed the petition on www.originaltrilogy.com because they want their beloved Original Trilogy on DVD.

From what I've heard, TF.N already spoke to Jay Sylvester, admin of the originaltrilogy.com site and founder of the petition, about lending support to the petition. There were some problems regarding server performance and the whole thing was abandoned.

Since www.originaltrilogy.com already moved to a new, reliable server, capable of processing more signatures than the previous one, I'd like to ask you, the TF.N admin, to reconsider the offer to put www.originaltrilogy.com banner on the TF.N main page. Please, join us in the just cause, as we all will benefit from its success.

Avid OT Fan,
RRS-1980

Please, help me and do the same - with enough pressure they will yeld to the power of the Dar.... oops, I mean to our polite request

I have posted above a link to the thread I'm talking about.

RRS-1980 - out!

I believe the previously established pattern we discussed made some correlation between obsession being an overriding theme in the lives of both Motti and NileQT thus making them the perfect union.

I sent a message to the owner of TF.N, and while I didn't get a direct answer about this site, I think he might be considering it. He also said near the end of summer, TF.N will be completely redone and that everyone should be "impressed," and there will be new Classic Trilogy sections.

Hopefully he'll do something about it, though.
