I have to disagree there.

Sure you could have had Artoo go up second and another one after him.

Sure you could have dwelled a little less on him as he went up the little droid lift thing.

But the scene shows Artoo doing what he was designed to do and he is the true hero of the saga even if Uncle George attempts to diminish his achievements by dwelling too much on those Skywalkers.

Sorry, guess I wasn't specific enough. I was referring to the sequence where Panaka brings R2 before Amidala for commendation, not the actual shield-generator repair sequence.
