Blu-Ray errors I saw

I didn't notice this in Empire at first but where I first saw it was in TPM was when they are leaving Tatooine, Darth Maul attacks Qui-Gon and I swear all during that fight Darth Maul's saber is like and orangey yellow color. And I believe I saw it in Empire too because all during that fight Vader's saber would go from different shades of pink to the normal red. But I believe the name color change like with Maul's happens during the part when he knocks Luke down and Vader jumps down and it looked exactly like how Mauls's saber color did. Now I don't believe it's my eyes playing tricks on me and wanted to see if anyone else noticed it and to see if I was the first to notice this.

The colours of the sabres in ESB are still all over the place. Vader's saber is orange, purple and pink, but never really red, as it should be.

I was relieved to see a lot of the saber mistakes corrected in ANH. Luke's lightsaber aboard the Milennium Falcon looks more white than anything, but that was always one of the crappiest saber effects in that film.

The sabres in ESB, however, disappointed me. I mean, goddammit - how hard can it be to colour-correct all of them?!

Now that there are two releases with these color scheme, these are the way George Lucas and Lucasfilm want them.

You don't have to watch them that way.

The guys at LucasFilm must be colourblind, then. I've downloaded Harmy's Despecialized editions to get my OOT fix, though. I feel less guilty doing that now that I actually own the Blu-rays.

You are misplacing your disagreement.  We don't know specifically what went down when color correcting happened.  For all we know they matched the theatrical print and then George would come in and say, hey make this scene this way, change this sequence that way.

At this point, all that doesn't matter, the color changes have been released twice, they are no longer errors made by the color blind, they are definitive deliberate creative decisions, that's the way George Lucas and Lucasfilm want these films to look.

It's up to the general public to now take what's been provided and change it, or the public can stick with older versions.  Everyone makes the call, you decided to buy the new set, and watch Harmy's old version.

In the audio commentary of Phantom Menace dvd, they mentioned two errors that I haven't seen mentioned as being fixed.

Near the ship on Tatooine, Obi Wan's rat tail is on the wrong side because the shot was planned to be reversed but never was.

During the pod race, Selbulba's car is missing Sebulba and is basically being driven by nobody for a few shots in the background.

Have these been changed?

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

Do you remember where in the race they said this was?

Another thing they didn't fix is also during the race, as they swing around the seating area, believe it's the last lap, there's a medium shot and you can see R2's dome turn and pop up, this hasn't been fixed.

Yeah thats exactly what I thought although the colors to me didn't seem as sporadic near the end of the saber fight in Empire. And while they are all over the place in ESB in ROTJ it seemed like the colors were very much corrected especially considering how bad it was in the dvd release. And anyone else notice the color glitch I saw in TPM. And yeah they did fix most of the color problems like it being green in ANH but the other problems like it being white like you mentioned is still there.

Also the fight with Obi-Wan and Vader the effect disapears when Kenobi's saber turns a certain way like it always has. And yeah I agree cus I am disappointed with that since it does go all over if you look at Vader's saber, although I am very glad that they fixed the problems I had with the saber fight in ROTJ. But I still can't see how no one saw it since ESB is considered by so many to be the best Star Wars film ever and you think it would get the most attention right after ANH since it does need alot of attention cus how old it is.

The Blu-rays are definitely better than the DVDs - changes aside, there's no way around around that. The recent DVDActive review of ANH sums things up nicely, I think; had this been the release of a less culturally significant film series, this release would have been pretty nifty. However, as we've been blessed with fantastic BD sets of the "Alien"-series, the extended "Lord of the Rings"-films and "Blade Runner", one cannot help being a little disappointed. They're still fantastic films (again, not accounting for the changes), but they do deserve better.

Oh, and seeing how I never got around to replying to you, none...

I'd agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that certain issues that resulted in an outcry among fans have been fixed. Luke's saber still reveals its prop-origins, but it isn't ROTJ-green anymore. The ADR is still all over the place as it always was, but at least better audio elements have been instated for the infamous Tarkin/Leia-exchange. The blue hatch has been recoloured, although they missed a shot.

Okay, the guys at Lucasfilm are only human. I suppose everyone could miss a few shots. It's when you combine those human errors with Lucas' obnoxious attitude regarding this historial revisionism and the PR-crap about "the best available quality" that things turn sour. Anyone can make a mistake, but these guys are apparently unable to admit them.

Evidently, Lucasfilm is just not the well-oiled machine we're supposed to believe it is. When it comes to handling their legacy, Lucas has the business mannerisms of Jabbe the Hutt, and his new staff have apparently been told not to actually give a shit. A damn shame.

It must seem as if I regret getting this release. I actually don't, cause it is still Star Wars, at least for a child of the 97 SE like me. But I am a bit bummed by the fact that I have lots of lesser films sitting on my shelf that have been treated better. But, by all means, those of you want to get it - make an informed purchase. Cause you won't be getting the "Ultimate Edition", sadly.

Yeah I completely agree with you because while I mentioned all the errors I noticed it doesn't bother me really since I am completely happy with this release and since the two big things wrong with the dvds being the main color errors where Luke's saber was green in ANH and the saber's interconnected in Jedi. Now that was the only thing that bugged me since it was right there in your face not like how some of the other errors may not be like right in your face and lasted for a few seconds.

And I'm with you too about not regretting this release because while I can complain about the color errors that are still there it doesn't change that fact that I love these movies and that they do look great on Blu-Ray. And yes not as best as most but as some reviewers and myself have pointed out it just adds to the nostalgia factor of the OT.

Not to keep agreeing with you or anything but I myself grew up in the SE era where those came out when I was still young though I can say I greatly remember watching the OT and even the Indie Trilogy every time it was on t.v. and watch the OUT all the time on my old VHS copies until the SE came out and yes those became the ones I would watch more often since they weren't as worn out at all. And honestly I really don't mind which version it is unless the story gets completely changed cus it's still Star Wars and while it may change every now and then which I've become use to and I enjoy seeing what new stuff or stuff is added in the next time they get released cus who knows maybe it could be some scenes we didn't even know of sometime in the future when they get released again. But though I doubt it since not many if any new scenes have been added to the Blu-Ray release.

Now on the main changes like the Krayt Dragon yell I honestly laughed so hard when I first heard it and I know in time I will get used to it. Now the Darth Vader one I wasn't so sure of even though I checked out the leaked version a couple of times but when I saw it on the Blu-Ray yes it does sound a bit weird at first but at least it is right at the end of Luke being tortured instead of all during him being tortured. Lastly the Ewoks blinking eyes I didn't really notice other than a few times when there were close ups.
