I'm going to try and use the BDtoAVCHD program to shrink it to DVD-5 and I'll let you know how it goes.

Hoping the quality of the picture/sound stays close to the same.

The quality is normally relatively good and there's always the 2-Disc alternative if you're not satisfied. Just try "slower" or "slowest" mode for best results; if you go too fast, then you'll definitely see some quality loss.

You really want to stick with only one audio option if you're encoding to DVD5. If you keep all the audios, it's gonna look like ass.

I've never tried, but I've always heard that using DVDshrink to go from -9 to -5 does not give very good results.

Hi, everyone !

This is my first post. I want to thank everyone who has participated to this restoration of these wonderful films.

I have not begun the downloading but will begin soon.

I'm not familiar with AVCHD. So I have a question. I don't have a Blu-Ray player. I only have a regular DVD player. Will I be able to play the DVD9 or should I burn the DVD5 ?

Sorry for my english. I'm not a native speaker.

Thank you for your answers. And thank you again for your work.

I disagree. If you cut back on the audio tracks/extras it does a fine job. My DVD of the V3 is a SL compression and I still think it's phenomenal.

Hi Worov! I think if you don't have a Blu-Ray player or PS3, you would need to use the DVD 5 version.

Question for everyone else: I am having a difficult time trying to get Harmy's edits. My downloads come partially corrupted, or something. After following all the instructions, getting all the pieces of ESB via the DLC file, JDownloader says that part 07 can't be extracted, and thus everything gets listed as "Extract failed." I've tried redownloading it, but with no success.

I'm at a loss. Can anyone please help?

If you really have downloaded all the parts, try another program to extract such as 7-zip.

Thank you for your answer, Lestrade.

I'm currently downloading the DVD5. I'll watch the films soon in a few days and come back to review these.

I'm so excited, I can't wait !

Harmy, you didn't address the 3 glitches. Do you confirm that you have these 3 errors in your original source files?

01:29:01
Chewbacca running. Frame Jump.

01:54:06
Millenium Falcon. Frame Jump

1:13:45
Black blocking on Luke's hair

I'll see what I can do to fix these (although one of these is from the GOUT, so if the frame is missing there, there's not much I can do about it.)

My JDownloader log states that part15 of ESB, is "temporarily unavailable". Its moved on to part 16. Thanks for all the hard work you put into this.

Apologies if this has been covered.  How do I burn these onto a dual layer DVD to be watched on a Blu Ray player?

EDIT: sorry, I see the format is AVCHD DVD9.  Do i just burn everything straight to DVD as a data disc? Can I use imgburn since its free software?

These are all in the source files. I never had an encoding glitch that I'd cause myself.

see you auntie said:

... but I think I may have found a glitch.

At 48.05 and lasts for about a second:

Did you ever work out if that was an encoding error or is the problem with the original source?

Not to add more fuel to the fire, but I think I have found a very minor glitch as well.  I haven't put in my copy of GOUT to see if it exists there or not, but at 0:31, after STAR WARS appears on the screen but before IT IS A PERIOD OF CIVAL WAR appears all the stars on the bottom portion of the picture suddenly get brighter.

Finally got my discs up and running on my PS3.  Thanks all for the recommendations on using Toast 10 (plus BD plug in) to burn these on my iMac. Piece of cake with the right software.

Harmy, you are a genius man!  I have never seen these original versions look so good, except perhaps 30 years ago in the theater!

This will keep me plenty satisfied while I wait for the blu-ray set to show up in the $10 bargain bin ;p

I have trouble using JDownloader. Does the torrent contain the DVD5 ? If the answer is yes, I prefer to download the torrent.

Thank you Harmy for your hard work. When can we see version 1.2?

Also a suggestion. Please add the version number of your work to the end title, so we know what version we have.

I'm staring school again, so it will be some time before things settle down, so it may take a while for v1.2 to be finished.

Adding the number at the end is a good idea.

As to those stars when the logo appears, it's there. I'll probably fix it for v1.2.

I finally got all my issues sorted as well. Random CRC errors meant I had to redownload RAR portions several times to avoid corruption.

I have all three films on discs now and they look wonderful. I have some friends who are going to be very happy this week. Thanks for the incredible work, Harmy.

Will v1.2 be a huge improvement? I am wondering whether to wait for that or get the current versions.  I am not overly fussy on things like colour correction but I do want a good version of original theatrical trilogy, well anything which is better than the 2004 DVD releases.

It should be quite a big improvement with several despecialized shots redone to blend better and such.

Ok great.  Keep up the good work, we all have much respect for you :)

I think I'll get the DVD5 version of now and wait for 1.2 to get the 720p version.

I also downloaded ESB yesterday but learned you starting again :O.  Whats the main reason for that?
