Topless Robot.com BluRay review

Thanks for the link to that review... funny and informative stuff.  I especially liked his comments about the packaging art:

It's a terrible painting.  And all the art inside is like that, too. You ever get one of those crazy religious pamphlets with the paintings of Jesus holding hands with a variety of ethnic children, but the text is all about how  you're going to burn in hell for all eternity? It's llike the same guy.

OK, I just bought the bonus discs from a friend who didn't want them.

A friend who wanted the movie discs but not the bonus discs?  Whhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa?
Who didn't just buy the two trilogy sets and saved himself at least $10? Strange, but at least Sluggo benefited.

For sure.  He's content with what I'm calling the Hunchback Ghost release, and I'm happy with the bonus discs and the rest.  Now only if I had time to watch them.

Star Wars BD set is completely fire-proof. Who knew?

Like the 2004 DVD, Star Wars seems to have far too much red boosting. The sand on tatooine and skin tones really look off. Hideous really.

I rather like the DVDActive reviews. Thank goodness for common sense! Although it still suffers a tiny bit from the "It's Star Wars" syndrome...

I agree, those DVDactive reviews are pretty good.

So in reading a bunch of reviews, it seems like the general opinion is...

-Audio: mostly top notch
-Video: wildly inconsistent
-New Commentaries: fairly interesting
-Deleted Scenes: meh on the prequels, pretty cool for ot (although not great quality)
-Other extras: Some good stuff but could have been much better

FINAL VERDICT:  A MUST BUY DUE TO THE INCLUSION OF AN EXTRA RIC OLIE SCENE

Question: I have the opportunity to buy the BD set from someone on Craigslist for a discounted price. It's a bit cheaper, and Lucasfilm doesn't get my money. Should I do it?

If you absolutely need it, that's the only way I'd recommend it, for what that's worth.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Apparently netflix has the blu-rays. Has anybody gone that route?

They know we exist, and they know what we want - Lucas can't hold out forever.

If by "forever", you mean "until he dies", I have a feeling that's exactly what he'll do. The man loves money, but I think he loves having the last laugh even more. We've badgered him for this so much and for so long that I think denying it to us has become a matter of principal to him.

After he dies, though? I have a feeling whoever takes his place will see the potential in a remastered OOT.

Also, I just read about the Twitter debacle with Katie Lucas. I won't hold a single word against her, because anyone who would take their grievances to her is an asshole to begin with. If people came on my Facebook talking shit about my old man, I'd treat them like dirt too.

^ Well, I prefer to remain optimistic. Surely we've had SOME effect, and I'm sure that any effect, no matter how small, is still felt by the higher-ups. They know we exist, and they know what we want - Lucas can't hold out forever.

I think he can, but hopefully you're right.
