I was at Walmart and I couldn't resist. I told myself I didn't need to get it yet, that I could wait until it was available used...

But I have a weakness for these Marvel films, and I think Kenneth Branagh did a great job in making one of the most ridiculous Avengers into on of the most human.

Wait, that's not what we're talking about here, is it? ;-)

This post offends me.

What were you doing shopping at Walmart? :p

Its an odd thing for me with the original films, because I love theme to death, but don't really have an excess need to watch them in pristine quality. I wouldn't mind it, but hell I've got the VHS tapes, I can find some original versions online.

Even being ticked about the lack of the original uncut versions in 5.1 widescreen with cleaned up shots and high resolution is really more a matter of principle than a desire to immediately watch them right now. So there's not really much temptation to buy the Blu Rays, other than checking out the deleted scenes, and with those online, I'm pretty much good.

You are not alone. This is exactly how I remember it from the movie I used to watch as a kid. I also agree with the Droids segment, it does NOT belong there, I think that's just another fuckup - they had this short segment of R2 and 3PO and they wanted to add it somewhere on the BluRay - and they edited it into an incorrect place

Nice to know there are more people who remember the scene like this, but most definitely, I don't know why they randomly inserted that bit with the droids. It wrecks continuity and 3P0 sounds awful.

Indeed. On the subject of the sound, it has always surprised me that people were complaining about the sudden shifts in sound quality in ANH. Especially during Tarkin threatening Leia. Some of these lines have always sounded awful for some reason. Bad ADR, I guess. So ANH is definitely all over the place when it comes to the sound.

Luke's "It just isn't fair. Biggs is right, I'm never gonna get out of here" has always bugged me - that one sounds like it was recorded in a tin can.

Yeah there is a marked difference in the audio recording of ANH compared to the other two, its like they hadn't recorded the vocals very well....listen to Vader for example....no bass in his voice....sounds a bit clipped.

I would compare the vocal recording to Jaws...it sounds similar

The sound issues are legitimate technical things. Sometimes scenes are filmed without sound. Sometimes, parts of the soundtrack are damaged and have to be cut out. Sometimes parts of the soundtrack go missing after so many decades. And other times, during the rough cutting, editors will cut and splice unwanted segments out or leave silent certain sections that will require careful sound design later.

Prior to the 2004 DVD, Tarkin's line never sounded like the tape got chewed up though.

Given the frenetic pace of post production in 1977, it wouldn't surprise me if someone was recorded over a phone line. ;)

So, I'm noticing that most of the OT deleted scenes are on Youtube, in HD to boot. Some of them are really interesting, some of them are not, but they are all cool to see. I actually wish the Luke-Leia Hoth scene had been left in the film, it's a really good performance. One thing that is really interesting about the ESB scenes is that you can see the quality of the performances and the way Kershner shoots his scenes, holding on shots for a long time and moving the camera. It's too bad some of the scenes are in black and white though, I guess they couldn't find the original colour negatives.

Glad I don't have to spend ten bucks to rent this thing right away.

Did anyone else catch the new mumbled line from Obi Wan about Midichlorians in "Jedi"? When he's talking to Luke on Dagobah?

Please tell me you're joking.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Back the fun truck the fuck up a second.

Someone expand on this. I have to know if this is true.

I wonder how hard it would be to orchestrate (good-natured) protests? Certainly a way to get good local news coverage, what with people with their "Han shot first" "Nooooo!" signs. And legal. Sounds like something best suited for college students. I was just thinking how amusing it could be.

The blue elephant in the room.

I take back what I said before. Bill Hunt isn't a whore. Harry Knowles is a whore, an "it's Star Wars on Blu-ray!" whore. But then, I expected nothing less from the juvenile frat boys at Ain't It Cool News.

Of course I was right about virtually every reviewer out there using that false argument. And I was attacked for pointing this out...

Oh for Ric Olie's sake, let it go man!

I was going to say something similar to him, but in the end it was easier just to plonk him. I have no time to waste on people who are so thin-skinned that they get their pwecious widdle fee-fees hurt so easily.

R2D2: The OT deleted scenes are muted from time to time without any technical reason. Sound is suddenly off completely in the middle of a shot and on after a few seconds again in the same shot.

Some of the scene have the director (Kershner) making stage comments, if these clips got to a second level of editing, those would have been removed so the sound crew would begin to figure out how to patch or redub.  That might explain for the cut outs.

"Bought the BDs today (4-6). Gonna see how bad it is."

"I did watch the new Han/Greedo scene. Although I'd prefer the original it is MUCH better now and pretty acceptable."

"I hate the changes but I'm going to buy it today. I'm part of the problem. :("

My skin is as thick as that of a Wookie!

Seriously, though, it seems that most people are pretty happy with the blu-rays from what I can tell, and not just because of the "SW on blu" thing. There's no doubt that the image is sharp and better than anything before, but some of us have been disappointed in the use of the Lowry transfers which had those color problems. It also appears that what people love most about the set is the new sound mix.

I wonder how much of an impact all the pre-order cancellations and boycotts had?

All we can hope for now is that the 3D conversions are abandoned and Lucas works on restoring the UOT for an eventual BD release.

Not sure if I really want to know if it´s true or not, midwhatever is the dumbest  thing to ever make its way to the SW universe...

I just can't get over how half-assed this set is. The sound on ANH is improved on some of the worst parts like the Tarkin dialogue but there are still parts where the dialogue sticks out like a sore thumb and you can hear hiss whenever someone speaks, and alot of the sound effects are still mixed way to loud to the point that they drown out everything else.

The colors also still look like complete shit. Everything looks like a cartoon and the coloring of the prequels look normal by comparison.

More changes documented.

Somebody needs to do one with an inner Vader monologue during Palpatine's torture of Luke.  When Palpatine grimaces, Vader can say, "God, look at his teeth.  I can't believe I dumped Natalie Portman for this guy.

I bought the set. Yes, shame on me. Two weeks ago I was boycotting it, and I've been one of the most critical people for about a year. But I got it, I guess because it's Star Wars on Blu-ray. :P

sig - "haters gonna hate. And then haters are going to buy the bluray set and keep complaining." - Katie Lucas, fan relations

So you left Katie's quote in your sig because... she was right in your case?

I didn't know where to ask but I'm looking forward for  the Latin Spanish audios of the 6 movies on Blu-rays to make some high quality edits for some fandubs, do someone know where I can find those?

Can some good guy could rip them? =P

185 INT. CORUSCANT-JEDI TEMPLE-CONTROL CENTER-NIGHT

OBI-WAN enters the Main Control Center with YODA and heads for the hologram area.

OBI-WAN: Wait, Master. There is something I must know . . .

YODA: If into the security recordings you go, only pain will you find.

OBI-WAN: I must know the truth, Master.

OBI-WAN moves to a panel and flips some switches. He sees a BLU-RAY scene of HIMSELF muttering something about MIDICHLORIANS. OBI-WAN and YODA react.

OBI-WAN: (continuing) It can't be . . . It can't be . . .
