I looked over in the Blu Ray and HD cover thread and couldn't find them .. Dark Jedi do you have a link to either the v3 or blu ray cover arts?

ALL covers are included with the projects, they are not shared by themselves, so if you have the V3 DVD Set, you already have the covers in the DVD_ROM folder, and the Blu-ray Set is not released so why do you need those covers? they will be released when the BD Set gets released, I find no need to share the artwork if the BD's are not available.

Oh I just wasn't sure how it worked. It looked like for Harmy's work, the artwork is a separate download, so I was just curious if it was for yours as well.

Anxiously awaiting your BD release.

Welcome to the 'request a MySpleen invite' thread.  Sigh.

I understand 112 pages are a lot to read, but is it too much to ask people to read the first post (the one that says PM Dark_Jedi for an invite)?

TBH I haven't grabbed these yet (just haven't gotten around to it), but with the wave of one-post wonders popping in just to grab an invite has me feeling uncomfortable about d/l'ing anything from MySpleen anymore.

Sort of defeats the point of a private tracker.  I think I'll wait to find it on a different outlet now.

Normally members have only 10 invites to give, but a while ago I announced that we wanted to restore relations and would open our doors to all OT.com members. There might be a couple leeches but it's better than having open registration and letting everyone in. So Dark_Jedi and I both have unlimited invites, and yes people should be PMing us and not making posts asking for them.

If you are worried that letting in so many random people is a security issue, then I assure you we are extremely low profile compared to the 100s of other private trackers. We don't allow anything that is commercially available, except for fanedits/preservations/workprints/etc. In the past we've had copyright owners ask us to take material down and we've done that for them. We also don't store anyone's IP or email.

Here's a link to the original thread:

I would just like to take a moment to thank all the hard work and love that has gone into this restoration project.

It is greatly appreciated.

Wanted to thank DJ for his hard work and keeping the flame alive.

Been wondering if it would be hard for me to re-insert the french track in the V3 dvd's?

I usually enjoy my movies only in their natives languages but when it comes to childhood memories i like to have the audio i discovered the movie with.

And the french OT dub is pretty cool.

dark_jedi,

Have you seen Harmy's 720p versions? How would you say your BluRays stack up with his version, video-wise?

I'm sure Harmy and DJ are best equipped to answer this, but isn't this comparison like between apples and oranges? I mean the source of the two are completely/totally different. One tries to modernise an old source, while the other works from the other direction.. no?

WOW!

I have fallen into a rabbit hole for sure. I didn't even know anyone was doing anything like this, its just incredible. After reading this article: http://bit.ly/cvrcKZ (not sure if this link is going to work) I am so happy to see that there are a lot of talented people not satisfied with the re-release of the Star Wars trilogy periodically with unnecessary extras added, and quality taking a back seat.

My only issue being that I have stumbled on this way late in the game, but I would love to see dark_jedi's masterwork. If at all possible could I get an invite to myspleen, I would really appreciate it. And again this is excellent work, kudos to everyone involved.

Invite sent. Check your messages.

Yeah, you are sort of late to the party. You should check out Myspleen and Fanedit.org as well as this forum to find older releases.

If you want a Myspleen invite, just PM me and ask.

I don't know if it's really apples-to-oranges; I get what you're saying, but they're both 720p versions of the Original Trilogy, regardless of how they got there. Sure, Harmy left some changes in, so its not unaltered and you can't compare frame by frame. I'm wondering how DJ (or anyone that has seen them) feels his Blu Ray versions stack up. I was always under the impression that it doesn't really help going from 480p to 720p, as no detail is/can be gained by simply upconverting.. Maybe I'm wrong. Just wondering :)

LOL, yes it is, as I have said several times, this Set is not for everyone, if you already have preconceived notions of the quality then then just don't grab it when it is available, and this question has already been answered by Harmy and myself.

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Harmys-RETURN-OF-THE-JEDI-Despecialized-Edition-HD-AVCHD-DVD9-NTSC-DVD5-available-SEE-FIRST-POST/post/532355/#TopicPost532355

sorry for sounding a little bitter but this question bothers me, if you have read about Harmy's projects and my posts here, you would have already known the answer to this question.

I can see why that question bothers you, DJ.

As for me I'm waiting for the Blus to be more publicly available so I can truly judge. I downloaded the V3 of Star Wars but only skimmed through it.

I realize this was probably answered somewhere else in this thread, but rather than trudge through all 113 pages I'll just ask:

How can I get on deck for the project blu set once it's released? Do I need to send blanks to DJ?

No one knows.

DJ will release it to the public when he feels like it, and frankly, I'm okay with that. He put the effort into it, it's his choice. I just wish it were sooner but neither you nor me can change that.

I would happily suggest that we not even think of sending blanks to DJ. He's done so much work with this... and I can imagine being sick enough of it that dealing with burning would be overwhelming. I'm hoping (can't assume) that it will show up on Usenet.

Which leaves me wondering which of my local friends has a blu-ray burner. And unfortunately that list is infinitesimal.

In the meantime, I successfully burned DVD-9s of DJ's V3 trilogy and I'm as giddy as I've ever been for these films.  The DVDs look and sound great, thanks a million!

Maybe now I can finally sell my laserdisc player.

Wanted to thank DJ for his great work.

I created my own custom by adding the french dub, english (i like to watch movies in english with english subs to train) and french subs (for the scroll and alien speaking parts).

It's absolutely terrific.

It really made me wanna see the movies again, now with my wife and i will probably burn a copy for my dad who took me to see the movies when they were released.

Is it ok for me to share this custom with my fellow french? Of course with all the credit that is due to DJ.

Amazing remaster. Im Stunned. Its nice your making a blu-ray release but V3 is a definitive for me unless lucas releases blu's himself, this is perfection given the source material available. You ever need anything let me know.

Hello, new here, but great to find this forum!

First, I'm glad others share in wishing to preserve the original versions - "GOUT" as I've learned...

THANK YOU dark jedi!!!

After hearing about the new blu ray release, it got me thinking about my '06 DVDs and how I used to also have a LD boot from somewhere around '04 (I think it was around the time those DVDs were released, and were NOT theatrical..).  After sampling the '06 set on my newer TV (I had yet to do this, believe it or not), I realized that even with zoom (from either TV or WMC), it just didn't look all that nice.

I then started playing with what I could, thinking it'd be nice to have a "better version."  After a day or so, I started thinking "surely, somebody else has done this, and probably better than I could."  ...It is truly appreciated that such a thing has been done.  It's just sad that there is no better transfer from which to work - a proper HD transfer may come someday, I hope, but until then, I'm just glad a "better than 'GOUT' version exists"!!!  I'd stumbled into this thread via various searches on the topic of the original theatrical version, and also a nice review at savestarwars.com.

These 'v3' sets are very nice I must say, especially the care taken with the audio tracks, and having an anamorphic set that doesn't need to be messed with is simply priceless.

I grew up with my dad showing us the original 80's VHS versions of these movies.  Though it was interesting to see the 90's remasters in theaters, and was quite awesome to see the movies on a big screen, the "theatrical" ones are what I know and care about.  By my estimation, the latest blu ray set would be the 5th major versions/revisions of these movies - that's flat out crazy IMO (theatrical, '97, '04, '06, 2011 - I could be missing something here...).

Anyway, just had to give a shout here and thank those who put so much work into the properly re-released "GOUT" that is 'out there' ;)  I am impressed, and very thankful!  Can't wait to sample the 720p versions when they're ready :)

Oh, gosh, I don't know what to say...

Well, I've been following this thread for quite a while now, and I never really got around to creating an account, but I feel like I have to say that I find what you are doing very, very admirable. Even though I only grew up on the Original Original Trilogy for a little less than half of my life (the part I don't remember well, haha), I always have held Star Wars very dear to my heart, and just discovering the fact that you've been restoring the original version to quality beyond their former glory is just fantastic for me to hear.

I thank you, DarkJedi, and I also would like to thank everyone who worked on the project. I haven't seen it yet (is there any possibility I could get an invite? :D), but I have no doubt in my mind that it would be a disappointment.

Thank you for doing this, and, though I really want to check out the DVD version, I'm really just way too excited to see what you've done with the blu-ray version...
