Worst Dialogue from............................The Phantom Menace!

Seriously, what is wrong with that line?

Um, the scene where padme is cleaning R2 and jarjerk pops in.  The dialogue b/ those turds is horrendous.  I still remember sinking down in my seat at the theater over that scene.....and many others.

"There's no cluster of midiclorians that controls my destiny!" -Han Solo, from a future revision of ANH

I noticed a lot of the crap comes from either the droids ,Anakin or the naemodians.

"they must be dead by now--finish what is left of them"

"you uhhh are under arrest"

"roger roger"

"no point reporting anything to him unless there is something to report"(or something like that)

Anakin's mates spout a load of kiddie bollocks when he is testing his pod---can't remember the exact dialogue but it's woeful(that whole scene should have been edited out or down by a whole lot).

I saw Star Wars in 1977. Many, many, many times. For 3 years it was just Star Wars...period. I saw it in good theaters, cheap theaters and drive-ins with those clunky metal speakers you hang on your window. The screen and sound quality never subtracted from the excitement. I can watch the original cut right now, over 30 years later, on some beat up VHS tape and enjoy it. It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.

"Always two there are.... a master and an apprentice."

The Rule of Two was instituted by Darth Bane a thousand years ago, but AFTER the Jedi believed that all of the Sith were destroyed.

So.... unless he has been keeping a secret from the entire Jedi order, how does Yoda know this?!

 I'll second that.

It's difficult to choose because it's almost all awful or bland.

Almost anything said by a Gungan, a battledroid or anyone to do with the podrace is stomach churning.

Anakin has the personal lion's share though.

It would be easier to pick lines from the film that aren't awful.

Quite by coincidence, I put on TPM last night - mainly so I could see the horrible puppet yoda again.  Wow, it's so bad it's good, very creepy.

But seeing some of the movie for the first time in a while, two things about the dialogue really stood out to me:

(1) exqueeze me, and

(2) all the times Qui-Gon said "I don't know".  Typically, this would happen right after announcing something important.  Like: "even master yoda doesn't have that high a midichlorian count!"..."what does that mean?!"... "I don't know."  It must happen a half a dozen times, either as "I don't know" or "I'm not sure."

I would add that, the character that stood out to me as the most interesting, even one could say best-acted, by FAR, was Wotto.  Everyone else was either deathly bland and utterly forgettable (Qui-Gon, Padme), horribly acted (Anakin), or just wrong (e.g., creepy puppet yoda, Jar Jar).

I liked Wotto, though.  Even got the impression he wouldn't be bad to work for. Which is why I thought how Anakin brushed him off in a later episode (was it 2 or 3?) was inappropriately rude.

You mean Watto. ;)

It probably wasn't so bad to work for him, except for the whole being a slave who would explode if you try to run away angle.

As Watto was trying to get Anakin to essentially beat up some people who owed him money in Episode II, he had every right to blow him off. Plus he sold his mom off to some crazy moisture farmer!

In a way, Watto is the cause of Anakin's fall more than Palpatine.

And now I'm defending a prequel plot point. Just shoot me now! ;)

So many to choose from. My least favs:

Jar-Jar: "Icky-pooey!"

Anakin: "Are you and angel?"/ "You're a funny little boy" (and the entire dialogue that ensues)

Anakin: "Now THIS is pod-racing!"

Kitster: "That's so wizard, Ani."

I don't hate TPM the way others do. But some of the dialogue is just excruciatingly bad.

ME: "I can't believe I bought this twice."

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Anything said by Anakin.

Anything said by Jar Jar.

Almost anything said by the droids.

Most things said by the Neimoidians.

A fair amount of what the Jedi say.

All dialogue concerning the amazingly weak space-trade plot.

So, to sum up, the best dialogue in the movie is probably the sound of the lighting guy sneezing which found its way into the mix...

I keep expecting the Neimoidians to threaten Naboo with Godzilla for some reason. ;)

"Many Gungans will be killed" Why is Quigon so unconcerned about the deaths of Republic pilots/anybody who participates in the battle.

Because that's his character.. making zero sense and having extremely questionable morals.
