CO: Same for me. Feels weird, eh? Even the guy who wrote a 600-page university-endorsed textbook on the 6-part saga is boycotting this!

The sad thing is I see the commericals, and I am so jaded by Lucas's bullshit, I don't even get that rush like the old days of seeing that first trailer for a new SW movie, etc.  Even in 2004 with the Hayden change, I was still of that opinion, "Well the changes annoy me, but I can put up with it."

I remember thinking a few months back that I would cave once all the promotions and reviews start filtering in, but nothing has changed.  I still think the set will sell great, and in the end my opposition wont make a difference.  But I really don't care about that anymore, this is more about my self respect!

Tomorrow the Blurays come out, and this will be the first big SW release that I am not a part of.  Pretty sad, that i have to be a martyr towards these movies, but I would honestly feel dirty if I went out and bought the Bluray set and just keep thinking Lucas is laughing at me that I caved in again.

I feel the exact same. Was looking forward to this about a month ago. However, the "Nooooooooo!" was a good wake-up call. I can no longer give money over to endorse this crap.

Well unfortunately do to family complications. I will not get to go to Wal-Mart at midnight tonight. To bad I was looking forward to NOT buying the blu rays.

But if any of you fined your self at Wal-Mart at midnight tonight.

Stand buy the big cardboard display and tell any one that is going to buy it.

“You do not want to buy these blu rays.”

“ They are not the films your looking for.”.

Looks like none found some tweaks to the ANH saber battle:

http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QMKIbx50QOM/TnJvIekT0hI/AAAAAAAAInw/gKEG0D0m2vY/s640/SaberBright.jpg

Its just a brightness adjustment (look at the white panels for comparison), no new cores like in RotJ. It helps make the cores whiter, but definitely makes the color of the saber a more hot pink.

For being something they seemed to have recomposited in 2004 from the original elements, they sure are still messed up.

Well, I've never really been a part of any Star Wars release, so this new blu-ray stuff doesn't really make me feel left-out at all. I actually don't own any of the movies on DVD (I just have the VHS copies) and I torrented the 2006 version of the OUT (the laserdisc transfers) so I wouldn't have to buy the whole set with the bastardized films in them and give any money to the powers-that-be.

Young Anakin and Obi-Wan

Sebastian Shaw as Anakin Skywalker, Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi

If you want the OT deleted scenes, PM me and I'll send them to you! DON'T BUY THE BLU-RAY DISCS!!!

My set arrives tomorrow from Amazon. I'm really looking forward to checking out all the deleted material. It should be a fun weekend.

Promus, top marks for honesty but nil points for piracy.

If you didn't want to give George your money you should have just gone without or purchased the discs second hand (which you can still do).

There must be plenty of charity shops and e-vendors selling them so not only will you have a legitimate copy without giving money to George you would be donating the money to a good cause.

Do the right thing dear.

I also torrented the GOUT, but for editing purposes only.  That's the only reason I torrent ANY movie: so I can use them in video edits.  My dad, apparently, is fine with that.  I own the VHS Faces set for the OOT as well.  I also have the Prequels and ROTJ FS SE on DVD.  I'm hoping to obtain some OOT Fan Preservation someday.

But what you said IS tiresome, and it is getting real old, real fast, if people want to buy these so be it, leave them the F alone, it is NOT like they are spending YOUR money now is it? my little Boy and I are going to get the Saga Set in the morning, and I can't wait to sit and watch them with him(he has already watched my custom Blu's) so you going to give me shit now to? WTF!

Some people!

Settle down, guy. Nobody's saying you can't enjoy this box set. Why so defensive? Does my comment lessen your enjoyment of the films on blu ray? I'm not preventing you from spending your money on something you want, so you should relax a bit.

However, it's worth noting that despite people having qualms with the changes or video quality, they'll still buy the BD saga. We've seen those comments in reviews and on the forums. That's a personal decision and I respect it, but anybody who does that shouldn't complain about Lucas not listening to the fans. I'm not saying you've done that but it's a more general observation.

The irony is that people will say the "SW on BLU!" comment is tiresome, and then their reasoning will be that despite changes or quality issues, they want to enjoy the movies in the best quality possible. It's kind of like when Trey Parker and Matt Stone made fun of Sean Penn for saying how he's been to Iraq, then Penn wrote a response to them saying that very thing, thus proving their point.

Again, by all means enjoy the discs, but don't expect everyone to fall in line. It goes both ways. People not buying the set are allowed to speak their mind about why not.

I just can't wait to walk into the Store tomorrow and see people boycotting and telling potential buyers not to buy, and handing out stickers and flyers and such, I bet there will be NONE of this LMAO! it is all just people on a few forums with a large dose of keyboard courage ranting and raving.

George Lucas has NOT swayed in his decision for how many years? and you think it is going to magically change now from ALL the Fans? how hard is it to just accept reality and move on? there are plenty of alternatives to watch at the moment, and if, by some miracle he does change his mind at some point, well then we will ALL be 1 happy undivided Fan Group again now won't we?

And I NEVER said georgec that I was going to enjoy them, I have not seen them yet, I am going to use them, just like a few others here are, is that a problem?

I'm actually leaning towards buying the set. Not because I'm excited, but rather out of pure curiosity.

...The old "making of.." docs are terrible quality. They are plagued with horrendous mpeg1/2 compression and other digital artefacts and then the interlacing issues turn the picture into a line-fest when there is the slightest motion.  It looks like watching an old VCD but with slightly sharper picture.

As Adywan reported the vintage documentaries seems of bad quality.

How do they compare to the Laserdisc/VHS preservations that guys did from those Making Ofs?

Can somebody post screenshots?

Is William Conrad the narrator of the first Making Of?

Someone on the Blu Ray first impressions thread reported Conrad's narration is intact, but it appears old video masters were used. :/

I got the documentary disc on Ebay, and will hopefully receive it this weekend. More sellers will probably break the sets up there in the near future.

One thing that has surprised me is that there have been no TV spots advertising the Blu-ray set on TV here in the UK and it comes out on Monday.

I don't think I have seen any here in the US either now that you mention it.

I've seen a ton of them here lately, and I don't even have a TV. Seems like they're on every commercial break in the cafeteria or the gym.

It's funny, because the volume is always way low on the TVs around campus, but I can always hear an AT-AT firing, or a lightsaber igniting and my head immediately snaps up to look for the source.

You know, I still have not seen any LOL on TV, but DAMN when I walk into Best Buy or Walmart it is on ALL screens in the Store.

To be honest I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Everyone has an opinion about this release. Some will buy, others won't. Those who don't buy it have different reasons. You assume that those boycotting are trying to change Lucas' mind - what if they're simply satisfied with what they have? I didn't say people will be in the store handing out stickers and flyers, and I'm not sure where you gathered that idea.

You confuse "keyboard courage" with people simply having different opinions. I think that's allowed. I don't feel like splitting hairs on "enjoy" vs. "use" the discs. Is that worth arguing about? I've indicated that everyone has the right to buy/enjoy/use/etc. the discs. But you keep asking me if I have a problem...It seems you're angry that I have an opinion about this blu-ray release that differs from yours. Maybe the problem isn't mine...?

Oh, and don't worry, I have many alternatives (VHS, LD, certain someone's rips, LE 2006 dvds...). I haven't actually sat down and watched these movies in a few years, but having physical copies is good insurance.

Lastly, I've moved on from hoping for a UOT release a long time ago. Again, saying I should accept reality is a reach. What's unrealistic about someone saying, "I have enough versions of SW - I don't need this one." I am not the only person to express this viewpoint on this site and am confused as to why you're taking issue with me.

I've enjoyed posting on here and don't want to have the same divisive conversations that plague other sites. Aside from my "tired" joke with which you took issue, I've responded to you rationally and politely. Let's just keep it amicable.

OH, believe me I know you are NOT the only one, there are definitely others here to, and there are threads here on boycotting and making stickers and such LOL.

DAMN, I miss the old OT, OH well, once I am finished with stuff, then I can be finished, I can't wait, who knows maybe once this whole Blu-ray release blows over some of the(I am going to steal this name from another member here) "nutjobs" will leave.

I personally don't give a shit who is buying and who is not, I just don't understand why the same person has to say it over and over again, I think it is very clear who is who in this thread, LOL why do I keep coming into this fracking thread! this one is damn near as messed up as the SW thread at blu-ray.com

You know thinking on this more, it does seem to get really crazy around here during releases, but then afterwords, everything goes back to normal, everyone goes back to working on projects and helping each other out, and all discussions for the most part is just feedback on colors, filters, and such, and an eventual preservation release, that is when ALL IS GOOD around here.
