The 1993 Definitive Collection laserdiscs and the 1995 THX laserdiscs use the same transfer. The difference is that the '93 discs are CAV and the '95 discs are CLV. CAV is typically better. So the general opinion is that the '93 set is the best to use for a DVD transfer. However, I would also like to see a transfer done from the '89 disc since it uses a different soundtrack.
Back to the SE subject, I actually have the 5 Star SE on dual layered DVD. The quality is excellent on my modest TV, but I tried it on a 50" plasma screen and it did not perform well.
