Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1 — Page 19

Yesterday I watched ROTJ DEED!!!! Oh Boy!!!

Harmy THANKS, THANKS, THANKS and a billion time THANKS for this masterpiece!!!

I specially freaked out with the Sarlacc scenes, they were just PERFECT!

I only noticed at the beginning the imperial uniforms a little bit green in comparision with the GOUT DVD's... But that's being picky because the color of the entire movie it's just AWESOME!

Again, thanks be to Harmy (and Chewtobacca for the DVD conversion)

I don't know how often a anyone from Lucasfilm comes this way, but I hope we don't get Harmy any unwanted attention with talk of not buying the Blu-rays after downloading his Despecialized Editions.

I for one will likely not buy the BD's (especially if the rumors of Vader's New 'NOOOO' and other such foolishness are true)

But this certainly has NOTHING to do with these versions. I applaud Harmy and others for all their hard work restoring these classics in glorious HD, but if these restorations were not available I would still not buy the BD's. I'd still watch the lackluster 2006 GOUT 'bonus discs' before picking up the latest official updates.

Me: I will not buy the Blu-rays.

Lucas: Because of Harmy?

Me: No, because of what you've done... what you plan to do. You're going down a path I can't follow.

You say you DLed the HD version of SW, why not download all the HD versions? And anyway, the SD version of Jedi will be on tehparadox in about five minutes. Big thanks to Chewtobacca for doing the conversion!!!

Well, after striking out twice with the HD versions, I figured it couldn't hurt to try one of the SD downloads. The format makes it easier to use Handbrake to make iPad-compatible files, anyway, so that was another consideration.

Great news about the RotJ SD...I'm downloading it as I write this! Once again, thanks so much for performing this labor of love!

Still haven't watched this properly, but thanks Harmy. I'm sure it will be as good as the other two!

This x1000.

Best time I've had watching ROTJ in a decade!

Today was supposed to be my day to watch it, but my plans got pissed on. I'll have to wait another week before I can watch it.

[UPDATE]

Got lucky and got the chance to watch it. It looked beautiful, and the sabers haven't looked that good in a long time. Sail Barge assault sabers looked almost re-rotoscoped.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Hey Harmy, is there ANY chance you have that shot of Jabba during the "At last we have the mighty Chewbacca."-line as a version without subtitles? It's a pretty heavy (and good!) edit on your part, but I doubt I can seamlessly re-create it...

Again, I put the subs in when I was rendering the final output, so no. But I do have some of the test footage, which doesn't have the subs and is nearly finalized - if you used it only to cover up the part where there is the subtitle in the DeEd, it should work fine. Do you want me to upload it for you?

Does anyone have suggestions where to put the layer change when burning these to DL DVD for ESB and ROTJ?

I'm going to hold off on SW until V1.2 is released but I'm eager to finally burn the other two. Previously I just played them off a portable hard drive through my blu-ray player.

Isn't that predetermined by the data you're burning? I was never given an option to choose the layer change point (using IMGburn), and I didn't notice it changing over distractingly in the middle of a scene or anything. These seem to play perfectly as they are man, I'd say you're good to go once they're DL'ed as they stand without any additional tinkering or bullshit.

I'm printing out my cover for these and should get my blu cases by the end of the week.  Take that, official release!

I watched all three of the Despecialized Editions back-to-back this past weekend and enjoyed the hell out of the experience!  They look great and it was nice to see the OT in HD without all the unnecessary additions.  The blending of HD and upscaled GOUT was a lot more effective than I imagined it could be.  You've done an awesome job, Harmy!

I did notice one glitch in ROTJ that hasn't been mentioned (as far as I know): There are a few seconds of pixelation on Yoda's back during a shot in his hut from 00:39:17 to 00:39:19.  It's the shot after Yoda asks if he looks "so old to young eyes" and Luke says "Of course not."  It cuts from Luke to Yoda and there are some pixels dancing along his back as he turns from the fire. Is everyone seeing that or is it just a bad burn on my end?  I know a version 2 isn't planned, but figured I'd mention it just in case.

Ultimately though, it's a small thing and in no way detracts from an excellent release!  Between these versions and Dark_Jedi's Blu-ray set, I've been in OT heaven lately.  I'm glad that there are people willing to treat the OT with such care, so thank you!

Shit!!! That's exactly the kind of glitch I was hoping to be discovered in the WP. It is really small though.

Oh, I'm so sorry, I was writing a long post which included a link to this in the preserving the german.. thread and my computer froze and I was too lazy to retype the whole thing and completely forgot about it. Here it is:

I have also noticed one in SW:

Just before the infamolus "Close the blast doors" sequence, there seems to be some pixelation, as Han and Luke run past the camera.

I'll better post it to the ANH thread though.

Ok, that's why I asked. I didn't want to be in the middle of a scene and find a noticeable pause when the layer change occurs.

If people aren't having a problem with this then I guess neither will I.

edit: Thanks :)

I burned two copies of RotJ and both are plagued with huge pixels everywhere. I'm not sure if its my burner or what. I'll figure it out, just saying.

That sucks. And the pixels aren't there when you play it on your computer? Might be a corrupt download too.

Everything is fine on the STREAM file which I extracted from the ISO and tried to burn. Even used IMGburn, like I said, it worked in my Blu-ray player. I've burned AVCHD's from Adywan, but this was my first burn on my new laptop.

lol...i really think you should call your workprints the official version because people don't seem to watch it until then.  and after all the suggestions come pouring in then release the "OFFICIAL" version ;-)

also is that glitch just specific to this version you used or is it another humdinger?

just downloaded and burned the DVD5 and it is amazing.

the circle is now COMPLETE!
