Looks like Bill Hunt is being attacked. Originaltrilogy.com is also mentioned toward the beginning. I'm still trying to figure this out:

How you can be an advocate for quality cinema while at the same time telling an artist that he MUST release earlier versions of his films he no longer supports is a contradiction.

Dude posts at length about how people who don't enjoy what he enjoys are "fanboys" and "hate activists."

It's the guy in the metal t-shirt explaining why his metal t-shirt is ok and other people are posers.

Hmm... people who spam Amazon and bitch at people for liking something they don't like?  If I hadn't already read one of his other "articulate" pieces, I wouldn't be sure he wasn't talking about people who supported the changes and supported the suppression of the originals.  I mean, that's certainly how we here tend to use the term "fanboy" at any rate.  Isn't that kinda funny?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Guys, we did great bringing the box set down to two stars on Amazon, but the box set of only the OT is still rather high.  Could we focus on bringing that down too?  People who hate the prequels and (think) they like the OT might assume the whole box is so low because of the prequels, and thus only buy the OT and still get the crap.

I did MY part...gave a crappy review and rated it as one star.

Let's "stay on target," people! This is our chance to "strike back" in some small way at Lucas!!

Young Anakin and Obi-Wan

Sebastian Shaw as Anakin Skywalker, Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi

If you want the OT deleted scenes, PM me and I'll send them to you! DON'T BUY THE BLU-RAY DISCS!!!

People now have this set in hand and while I appreciate the reviews of the changes, picture quality, soundtracks, deleted scenes and other special features there's one thing I must know - what is the costumers feature like. I MUST. KNOW.

It is of utmost importance. I've been waiting for like forever to hear about this.

well I watched AOTC blu today (well, i say watched...i watched the first 10 minutes and the last 30 minutes, fell asleep in the middle....been a long day)...and it looks just awful!

the battle of geonosis looks absolutely terrible, everything looks fake. the actors look so far removed from their digital surroundings that it just yanks you right out of the movie. Space Jam looks better!

I take the scene where Anakin jumps on the back of that creature on the arena has not been improved at all, that was one awful piece of cgi on the dvd...

It looks like alot of people have the set in hand now.  But none of the deleted scenes have been uploaded to youtube, besides the officially released ones.

Can someone with the set please upload at least the wampa attack and Lukes's training from ESB?  Maybe to rapidshare or even youtube?  It would be much appreciated!

I agree, if someone would be kind enough to share a few of the deleted scenes that would be awesome for us in the US that can't get the set until Friday.

Blu-ray.com review is up:

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Star-Wars-Blu-ray/14903/#Review

5/5

No, the "untouched" original trilogy is not included. Yes, there are some goofy new additions, like Darth Vader yelling "NOOOOO" as he throws Emperor Palpatine over the railing. I don't think anyone expected this release of The Complete Saga to be free of controversy. But come on. It's Star Wars. On Blu-ray. This is a once-in-a-technological-generation event, and if your hatred of George Lucas' revisionist tinkerings keeps you from enjoying some of your favorite films in high definition, you're missing out. Believe me, I share your pain. Whenever I hear that stupid funk song inside Jabba's palace, I cringe like a man being forced to bite down on tin foil or chew sand. It's almost physically painful. But I'm done being bitter. I'm playing the long game. One of these days, Lucas will wise up and realize that the original trilogy—in its original form—is a culturally and historically important piece of pop art that belongs to its fans. But until that day, I'm going to enjoy this Blu-ray box set. The films have never looked or sounded better— Episodes III-VI are particularly impressive—and they come with a fantastic collection of special features.

Another one bites the dust and rationalizes giving into the Luca$ machine.

Episode I was shot on 35mm, but here it's been fairly strongly filtered so that grain is scrubbed out, giving a more video-ish appearance. I'm assuming this was probably done to give a sense of visual continuity to the prequels, but it frequently results in softened textures and smeared over detail. The application of DNR isn't nearly as egregious as it was in the notorious Predator re-release, but the image does look a bit off at times, with faces taking on that distinctly smooth, waxy quality that always accompanies excessive filtering.

Wow, the DNR must be pretty bad for this website to mention it... and that's a bummer, I actually LIKE TPM! Shame we'll never get a truly high-quality version since the previous HD tv airing rips contain digital compression...

There's one phrase I've learned to hate more than any other:

"It's Star Wars on Bluray!"

So many arguments I've read boil down to somebody saying that.

"Sure, the movies still have all the problems of the old DVD's, and Lucas is the only director in the history of cinema to suppress his original movies, BUT IT'S STAR WARS ON BLURAY!"

Here's a review I just added at Amazon.com:

Subject: Should've been amazing...

...but it's not. :(

Some people—who, let's be honest, will buy anything with the Lucasfilm name attached to it—will say 'but the picture quality is the best!' Is it? Sure, the resolution is higher, but we're still dealing with ridiculously overdone blue tint (especially in Empire), crushed blacks galore, and TONS of other problems that LFL created during the creation of the 2004 DVDs, of which these are pretty much just gussied-up versions of. On top of that, we have lots of POINTLESS additions, such as Vader's extra 'nooooooooooo' *barf!*, a stupid new Krayt dragon yell by Obi-Wan, a Dug (Sebulba creature) in ROTJ, very fake looking Wicket blinks, a lazy new reveal of Jabba's big palace door (a 2D zoom in?), etc...and they still can't fix the stupid lightsabers! Luke's is still green on the Falcon and Vader's is PINK all the time! They did fix it for a few seconds in front of the Emperor's face, but who cares when it's the same 2004 mess the rest of the time? >:-( And they have the audacity to blame it on the color spectrum changing or something like that when transferring to digital blah blah...which is total nonsense. The cores and colors are still correct on my old VHS tapes. Stop feeding us these lines. Between all the backpeddling and revisionist history, we don't believe you anymore!

They complain about restorations and such costing too much, but then they spend who knows how much time and money on messing with the movies to the point where people don't want to buy them. Good plan, George! I also have NO interest in your version of the prequels, so no help from me there either. I must say that it's kinda nice that this time, it's not just the old schoolers complaining about this nonsense, as many whom one might consider casual fans are disgusted by some of the stuff they've seen and heard. Oh, and the cover is extremely underwhelming as well. Did they commission some random 13-year-old at deviantART to do it? (no offense to 13-year-olds at DA, but you know what I mean...)

Thanks for making us wait for something we really wanted only to be so TURNED OFF by the whole thing. I feel as confused and disappointed as I was after I saw The Phantom Menace. I'm sure for the next release (3D Blu-Ray? Some new format?), they'll just release these versions again in slightly higher res and add more fluff to it for another cash grab.

Way to shoot yourself in the foot, George!

But they don't realize it is not Star Wars on Blu-ray. It is six direct-to-video impostors calling themselves the Star Wars films. This suppression should boil the blood of every person who cares about movies. I was wise to not give in to the hype; I never even bothered to buy it before the Vader NOOO in Jedi. And as I thought, the PR on how "great" these Blu-rays are is complete bullshit. This is scaring me; no one is honest enough anymore out of this site to stand up to GL. It's like LFL is forcing them to give this release a good review. GL will succeed in his ambitions of destroying these three films. Trust me.

+Pi!

I'll be surprised if that "It's Star Wars on Blu-ray" doesn't show up in every review.

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

What gets me are the people that will fork out $75 for deleted scenes.  Is there any other movie in the history of moviedom for which people will spend that kind of money on low res versions of bits that were thrown out?  I know we're star wars nerds and all, but geez in a normal world that stuff is worthy of being a free download.

I bet a lot of the cases are people are wanting the movies secretly, but only admitting to wanting the features.

This is pretty ridiculous as well. It's not going to matter. Lucas publicly rebukes those that want the OT. He doesn't give a hoot about all the one-star reviews in the world. The group of people that would take the time to "vote with their wallet" is so small compared to the general buying public who thinks having Star Wars in HD is "pretty cool". That's all that matters.

Not to mention that a lot of the scenes were deleted FOR A REASON - mostly because the scenes sucked, or they didn't add ANYTHING to the narrative or character arcs (like the pointless Jabba scene in ANH). As much as I love the OT, the editors back then (unlike the people responsible for the prequels) knew what sucked and what had to be cut out to make the film good.

Take the deleted scene of Han and Leia in the corridor on Hoth - we're already told enough about the state of their relationship from the bits that ARE included in the film. If that deleted scene had been added, it just would have dragged on (like the prequels do). Not to mention that somehow, the acting in that scene (particularly from Harrison Ford, oddly enough) is VERY sub-par, and dare I say, prequel-Portman-ish. So I'm glad it's cut, and there's no way in hell I'd buy a bloated blu-ray release of some bastardized versions of some otherwise great movies just to see them.

If someone found the all the lost footage from the Wizard of Oz they might. ;)

We should be glad they didn't make them BD Live content. Disney has done this a couple times with extras that were on previously released DVD's and Laserdisc even.
