I was under the impression that there is still a level of reencoding when going from avchd to mkv.   Regardless, the best method for mkv would be if it came from the source file.

What revgen told you is perfectly true.  You can remux the AVCHD to MKV without quality loss and don't need to re-encode unless for some reason you want to, so there is no need to go back to the source file.  (The uncompressed audio can be tracked down and muxed in easily enough.)  I don't know why amorphous wants an mkv when most devices that play MKVs will play AVCHDs too, but if he must have one he can demux the m2ts tream with tsmuxer and remux with mkvmerge.  Harmy's release is big enough to preserve quality at 720p, especially given the sources, so there is really no need for a big MKV release.

@The Aluminum Falcon

There is no need whatsoever to use BDtoAVCHD to do this (and a transcoded file would not be lossless). :-)

Didn't know that... Cool. Thanks for the information.

Registered to say thanks, watched your versions of Ep 4 and 5 today and it was just fantastic.  I always loved Star Wars for the small mistakes and overall campiness and it lost a lot of that with the CGI'ing up.

My wife really enjoyed them as well Harmy, and my 6 month old son watched a bit of ESB, his first ever viewing on your edition!  Hopefully this starts him off on the right foot.

Again a big thanks!

Cool :-)

As to the MKV, I was considering a larger MKV release, I even made one for ESB but I compared it to the AVCHD and it looked practically identical, so I decided it would be a waste of space.

Honestly, an MKV is pretty easy to create once you know what to do. So if anyone wanted to make one for themselves, it wouldn't be very difficult.

( off topic but one idea for converting to MKV would be to make three giant MKVs for each of the films, each with all the various sound mixes, plus Harmy's de-specialized AND Dark Jedi's GOUT on seperate video tracks.)

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

BTW, are the Despecializations timed to the GOUTs? In other words: Does any of the GOUT audio tracks (when played at 23.976 fps) sync up completely?

Yes, fits perfectly, you don't even need any delay function. Just stretch them with MeGUI or something else to 23.976 fps.

Yeah, when I was doing the cut, I had GOUT there in a small window as a guide, so it's the same as GOUT +/- one frame.

Yes, I already added German audio tracks to my copies of your AVCHD Despecialized Editions of SW and TESB and it worked perfectly fine for me. Although I used to love the "Krieg der Sterne"-logo, I'm also fine with the original opening crawl and English subtitles because most of our official DVD- or BR-releases don't provide written text that's translated into local language either.

I also love the "vintage look" of your Star Destroyers. Watching TESB DeEd on my HD TFT monitor yesterday was a stunning experience. Thank you so much for everything!!!

Just found this thread and am pretty excited to see this.  Any chance someone can send me a myspleen invite?

AFAIK someone is just working on this issue (German intro + text crawl + alien languages).

Ok, tech question.  I've got the whole BDMV folder downloaded; which file(s) am I burning on my DVD+R DL to play this on my PS3?  It looks like the movie is the .m2ts file.  Do I just burn that, or do I burn the whole folder?

Not sure if you've been asked this yet or not, but would there be any quality gain from outputting the source file for these at a higher bitrate (like for a BluRay disc), or is the bitrate already maxed out on these?

Ugh, no dice.  My PS3 won't read the disc.  Using an iMac and disc utility (Imgburn is only for PC).

See, that's exactly why I'd never want a Mac. All Mac users seems to have some sort of problem with this kind of thing.

Anyway, the point is that you need to burn both folders with UDF 2.50 setting.

Wow, I just discovered that there is a torrent (outside of Spleen) that contains all 3 DeEds as ISO files.

Does it bother you?

What site is it?

It is not that it bothers, it IS common courtesy to at least let the creator know that this is going to happen and if they have any issues with it, I just found a few weeks ago that some whatever put the V3 Set up on the newsgroups, do you think this whatever had the courtesy to let me know? well the person didn't, so for me, it is cool that it was shared, but the person that did it, well, I will keep what I think about that to myself.

It was posted on about ten different sites including the bay. I doesn't bother me, though I must admit it is a bit scary how fast the news travel. I did a little search and there are threads about it in various forums and torrents and stuff. Don't get me wrong, it's flattering and exhilarating but scary at the same time ;-)

Sorry, I thought Harmy mentioned the same thing I did previously, well I guess we do NOT feel the same way about this issue.

Sorry, I must have overlooked your previous post as you probably posted it while I was typing mine.

I am a bit pissed off about people posting these without my permission, not just out of principle but the distribution was nicely contained within two sites and now it's beyond my control. I even saw the Uloz.To links reposted on some other site, so I took them down and only kept the MU ones.

ANOTHER EDIT: I meant to post this yesterday...

These cover are great, Harmy!

EDIT: I just saw that someone posted this same thing earlier, and that there may not be an answer to be had. I'm dying to watch these, though, so maybe someone can help!

I'm having an issue burning two of these. I had no issue with the ISO for RotJ, works on everything I have to play it on (LG Blu-Ray Player, PS3.) However, for both ANH and ESB I had to create the ISO's myself. Neither of those work on my PS3 and I have no idea what I've done wrong. I'm on a Mac and I have Toast and Disk Utility.

Could someone point me on the right direction? Thanks all!
