Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!) — Page 268

The art looks very much like a children's storybook, and like the big sticker that says "90 minutes OF SPOOFS!" it tells us who they are really trying to hook here. Screaming kids and their Disney Moms (and Jay Leno grandparents). The rest of us are presumed to show up no matter what and will always be there so why bother selling to that crowd.

Hey everyone see these 3 min. videos that i just found at YouTube that have the 2004 DVD and the blu-ray look very similar but the blu-ray is just a little better. You vote which one is better.
       episode IV A NEW HOPE

 episode V

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lruelc2lKFk&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
episode VI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3tZPKUdywI&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
episode I

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_khXDYYtHw&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

episode II

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGo5brwAegk&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

episode III

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvpc9iC2X6A&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

You can see Episodes IV-VI still have a little green/blue tin to it, but now Episodes I-III have green/blue tin to it,even though Episode III already had a tin to it and Episode I had a red tin and episode II had a blue tin. So now the star wars movies have the green/blue tin.

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

I actually like some of the paintings. They remind me of the one of the things I like(d) best about SW - the pre-production, EU, and trading card artwork that made it feel like a universe. I mean, that's what SW is to me, so Boba Fett riding a giant lizard, absolutely, put it in there.

This kind of thing:

These pieces are still much better than the diarrhea in the Blu Ray books, IMO.

Agreed. I hope someone posts a cap of the paining of Han with the Ewoks. So laughably terrible. I'm actually glad that the artwork blows. It makes everything associated with the set a total fail.

What the hell is happening here???

Not sure, but I'm thinking up several captions to go with that pic. :P

I am thinking that this has something to do with "Droids". I believe there's an "Easter Egg" containing some of that cartoon series as well as some of the Holiday Special (thus the horrible artwork of Fett on the dragon).

Seriously, who the F did this artwork? Why not just include children's crayon drawings.

That pic was painted by Roy Grinnell, who is the official artist of The American Fighter Aces Association and The Commemorative Air Force/American Combat Airman Hall Of Fame. This, along with the Fett riding a lizard and Han and Ewoks painting (different artists, respectively), are prints featured in the book STAR WARS-VISIONS. They are nice enough works on their own, but headscratchingly odd to include when there are more iconic pieces to choose from( Mcquarrie, Struzan, Hildebrandt, etc.)

If you truly want to watch the old and original versions watch them on their original format. The way they were meant to be watched on VHS!

By wanting the original works of the movies on Blu-ray you are essentially being a hypocrite. You say Lucas shouldn't revise his master pieces, but on the other hand you want his original works to be changed into HD on Blu-ray? So many overrating hypocrites, you people are people being ridiculous.

Oh, and by the way it is his Saga of movies and he can do whatever he wants with it. You people have no right telling him what he is doing is wrong when you would not even have Star Wars if it weren't for him. Its disgusting how these so called "die hard fans" are so quick to downgrade any Lucas does with his own works.

Luke threw twice…maybe.

So 35mm is supposed to be watched on VHS only? Oh crap, I have to sell almost all of my DVDs and Blu-Rays.

Reminds me of a Heavy Metal magazine cover. Wish I could recall the name of the comic that ran in it back in the 80's that Lucasfilm might have sued over if they ever saw it!

Amazon 5 star reviews to 1 star reviews: 163 vs 644.

They've knocked $10 off the price too. I wish this was because of the negative reviews but more likely its to price match Target.

That has GOT to be the SAME PERSON who wrote this bit of wisdom on one of my YouTube uploads:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKtciRCVpFE

"....If blu-ray remastering were applied to the originals, it would only serve to enhance the imperfections. So the dvds of the original cuts from a few years back are probably your best bet. Plenty hardcore fans even boycotted the laserdisc remastering from 20yrs ago, so blu-ray remastering would only change it further....."

So, let me get this straight-----the OT has too many imperfections to be seen on an HDTV screen?!

I call bantha poodoo on the suggestion there was any Laserdisc boycott 20 years ago. I'd be amazed if any of these people have even watched an LD in their entire lives, if they even know what one looks like. ;)

Having lurked the various spots since May 4th, I can say they all have THAT GUY. Sometimes it's gotta be the same person, sometimes it's a guy just like him. If it's a very star warsy place, there's probably 3 of them. When somebody sets him straight he says something inane or ignores it completely, waits a week and starts in again. It's like having the shittiest mascot ever.

I don't remember a laserdisc boycott either. :-P

I know - they post on my YouTube uploads every day. There was just something about the tone of that one, (& saying that the OT was meant to be watched on a lesser home-video format) that sent up a red flag for me.

I'm starting to believe Lucas was replaced by a double around the time Captain Eo came out. His beard went missing at the time!

It's so weird to look at........

Actually, getting used to it, he actually looks quite good without the beard.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Gah, on top of the same overall shoddy colouration problems and continued dubious changes for this latest release, it also now seems that all the 'deleted scenes' are in a pretty rough state too.

I had really hoped that some of these were going to be potentially useful for future edits such as adywan's ROTJ:REVISITED...but going by certain reports, it's looking like their lack of quality renders them unusable for seamless integration.

So it seems that far more effort went into polishing the deleted scenes for the previous 'Prequel' DVD releases, than what went into these ones on this Blu-ray set.  Yet another disappointing aspect of this release then.  :(

People really seem to be interested in the deleted scenes aspect of the Blu-Ray set. Lucas probably is counting on this to make the set sell. After the EW ESB scene was released, I posted a color corrected version on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvUyNoa22Jo

It's been like two days but this thing already has 39,051 views... Someone even ripped my color corrected version off and it's on whatculture.com...

EDIT: By the way, excuse the "in retrospect" shoddy color collection. It was late at night and I was mostly trying to get rid of the yellow-ness...

The blu rays are already being sold here in Mexico, a friend of mine bought it. After watching the deleted scenes and parts of Star Wars and Jedi, I can say that the set really blows.

For those planning to buy the set just for the deleted scenes, you should reconsider, it's really not worth it. Check them out on youtube first or something. My feeling is that most will be dissapointed by the deleted scenes.

Also, Wicket's eyes are truly terrifying.

Really? Were they officially released in Mexico or are the stores violating release date? It's curious that those haven't been pirated yet as they're quite the anticipated feature.

I probably will check them out just on YouTube. I wonder how long till videos start surfacing...

LOL.
