To think Star Wars was the first film I saw in a theatre back in 1977. Now I don't even care about this release a single bit. Lucas clearly doesn't care so why should I?
I just purchased the Blade Runner 5-disc blu-ray set earlier this evening. Ridley gave us 4 versions of the film (original release, international cut, director's cut, and final cut), all fully remastered, plus the workprint version.
I also have the Close Encounters blu-ray, which includes all 3 versions - original, special edition, and collector's edition, all remastered. And I have the Alien blu-ray set, which contains 2 versions of each of the 4 films - again, all fully remastered.
These are directors that fully understand what their fans want. And they care about their films, as well as their fans.
Lucas clearly doesn't care what we want. And for that, I have no interest in this set whatsoever.
By the way, I just watched 2001 over the weekend on blu-ray - highly recommended! It looks stunning. It reminded me that there are other movies out there to enjoy besides Star Wars. I'm still a fan of the OT, and I'm waiting anxiously for Adywan's TESB:Revisited. And I'm very impressed with Harmy's despecialized editions. But as far as official releases go, I'm done, until the day that Lucas has a change of heart - that should give me plenty of time to watch so many other awesome sci-fi blu-rays by directors that care.
