Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 49

Hey Harmy,

I really love your Despecializations! Since I'm German I want to create versions with the German crawls and German subs for Greedo and Jabba. Are there HDTV-versions of the subtitled scenes, but without the subs? Or did the subtitles look like that in the HD broadcasts? I'd like to re-create the German subs as they look in the US version, but I'd need clean versions of those scenes for that...

The next hurdle will be multi-angle / seamless branching or some other trick to allow choosing between the English and the German crawls and subs (and Adobe Encore, which I'm using, doesn't support either feature). Well, at least the subs COULD be realized through actual Blu-ray subtitles... but for that, again, I need clean versions of those scenes.

Otherwise the new Blu-rays might provide the solutions...

Yeah, there is no HDTV broadcast without hardcoded subs, I had to remove them using the DVDs. But I'm sure the BD will be a better solution.

Erm, that's exactly what I did in that clip...

You know, after watching the clip again, you're right. It's absolutely fine. Watched the GOUT scene again and it's pretty much the same. My bad, I guess I just remember the 77 effects being worse than they actually were. Sorry about that.

Just got turned on to this forum.  Can someone send me an invite to myspleen? (can't get the Jdownloader to work on my imac)  Thanks!  Harmy & co, thank you!

Oh, actually your result looks pretty much perfect to me... would it be possible for you to share the upscaled and color corrected versions without the subtitles of the Greedo and Jabba scenes? It would make it so much easier for me to seamlessly replace them...

My bad, I guess I just remember the 77 effects being worse than they actually were.
Looking at the photographs from the Technicolor screening, it can easily be seen that the 1977 lightsabre effects were actually very good and hold up well.  Memories of their inadequacy can only be attributed to the flaws of transfers to home video.
Harmy's latest vid certainly gives them a more nostalgic look, though it's easy enough to tell that some of the 2004 versions are still there, even with the re-colouring.  I'm still not sold on the colour scheme of the scene in general, as the print photos show the background being a more solid blue rather than grey, and Ben's blade having a darker shade, but since the 2004 transfer screwed this scene up beyond recognition, I imagine that getting it back to what it should be is quite difficult.  It's certainly a huge improvement over what it was, and I look forward to seeing more of the work the next version.  ;)

Well, yeah, in a few places I just recoloured Vader's sabre as a) except for the colour it looked the same as GOUT and b) in GOUT it was screwed up by DVNR in a few places.

@Laserschwert: I was adding the new subs at the same time as removing the hard-coded ones, so I don't have the clean subtitle-less videos any more. But if you just wait for the Blu-Rays, I'm sure they'll have selectable subs, so you should be able to get the sub-less videos from them.

My time to finally enjoy these has come! Problem is I don't have a pro rapidshare account or anything like that. How can I join myspleen? Torrents are way easier to handle for me, as to keep sharing once done.

Any advise? Thanks! :D

re blue lights: Well, maybe.

and re torrent: these are all available on myspleen. You need an invite to if you're not already a member there. You can PM dark_jedi and ask him for one, he's got like 900 of them.

edit: AF beat me to it :-)

Hello Harmy:

Thank you for putting together these very fine SW AVCHDs!

Your SW AVCHDs are a big improvement over the 2004 SW DVDs!

I was reading in this thread that you were considering a SW 2.0 despecialized AVCHD depending on the deleted BD SW scenes.  At least, I think I did.

Anyways, when I first saw SW in 1977 in the movie theatre in Canada, there was the Biggs scene like the SW special edition but also Red leader was talking about how he knew Luke's father in the Clone Wars.  By the 2nd theatrical release, that SW scene was edited out by George Lucas.  If that complete Biggs and Red Leader scene becomes available on the BD SW set and you have the time and energy, then could you add that scene back on, please?

That would be the SW I remember from a time long ago...

Hmm... another forum member named Puggo believes they had that scene in theaters also; however, there has yet to be a confirmation. Even the theatrical bootlegs and 16mm prints show none of that scene.

Out of curiosity, is the DVD-5 version of this still up? I couldn't really get it to download from uloz.to.

It should be, although with the experience so far, it's quite possible that uloz.to is acting up again. That could be a problem, I'm not even sure I have the SD version any more (it probably is somewhere on one of my external HDDs but I don't know which).

I have no intention of inserting that scene, sorry.

Harmy - I don't know if this has come up elsewhere since you have separate threads for each film, but now that they're all out and you did case art, how about some accompanying disc art?  And if you really feel ambitious, how about a Trilogy cover for those of us that want to put them in a single three disc case?

I'd also be interested in a trilogy cover.

I'm not sure how thick should the spine be for a 3 disc box. It would be ideal if someone could point me to such a cover already made (for whatever film) to use it as a reference.

Most if not all three disc Blu-Ray cases I've encountered were the same thickness as a single disc case, so it should be okay keeping it 14mm thick.

After seeing all the positive comments about your work, I couldn't resist any longer, freed some space on my hard drive and dl'd your DeEd. And it truly is fantastic, Harmy, excellent job!

I'm doing something similar, I'm trying to recreate the italian crawl in HD, episode-less, and then I'd need the Greedo scene without hard-subs, to make my own. But then, how to incorporate them in the movie, without having to re-encode? I'm pretty much clueless about HD and blu-rays and whatnot...

Here's a trilogy cover set I made that can be used for basically any OOT (click the images for the full size versions):

Yeah, I guess there's no other option than a re-encode. Also I guess I won't be able to make a multi-angle disc (for having both the English AND German crawls and subtitles), so I'll probably take the cheap route of putting the movie on the disc twice. After all the AVCHD-versions are small enough to fit on a BD25 disc twice with enough space left to re-encode at a higher bitrate and still allow multiple audio-options.

Harmy, thank you, thank you, thank you so much for putting the effort into this! I thought I was going to be stuck with the HD Special Edition forever. I think that uloz.to is still acting up. I got one or two of the rars off of there but then it said that the files were set to private.

Does anyone have an invite for myspleen they’d be willing to pm me?
