captainsolo, that's exactly why I would hope that by the time LFL gets around to the 3D theatrical re-release in 2015 that they actually bother to do a new 4K scan. This will be an ancient, 11-year-old 1080p master (hell, it's ancient today in 2011!) and by then it will have been about time for them to do a new scan anyway. Even with movies that were only shot in 1080p, I'm pretty sure the effects and everything are rendered in 2K (so the live-action stuff is upscaled slightly, I'm pretty sure Clones and Sith were done this way, the scope version of Avatar also). Not that I could care any less, I'm not giving Lucas my money until he gives us the originals. I wouldn't pay to see the movies in post-converted 3D even if they were from the original versions!!!

Lucas’s response? An eyeroll and a huffy, “Grow up. These are my movies, not yours.”

Jeez, this guy's about as rude as Uwe Boll! If he were any other celebrity he would have gotten SO much crap for that.

Looks like someone spotted another change to TPM (unless it's fake):

Can anyone confirm this???

If this is indeed a change, this is the same view screen Amidala pops up in, so change one should change the other. (the black border)  I was under the impression that originally that shot is not somewhere else, but that's the actual doorway which has a 'ray shield' or something in front.  Not sure why the doorway now becomes a view screen.  A few seconds later Qui-Gon is poking his lightsaber through this same opening. (which was recently locked down)

What do the Lucas lovers over TFN think about this story I wonder?

I really hope this is what the whole transfer looks like and the others were just a bad rip.

Like the Predator BD, some scenes are going to look less terrible than others.

We all know whoever ripped it didn't accidentally add a crapton of DNR to it, even though we wish that were true =/

On top of everything everyone else has said about this clip...

A) WTF is going on with the top of Mace's hood being eaten up by the background? and

B) Look at when it gets to the "master or apprentice...?" line at the funeral - how they have obviously replaced part of Mace's shoulder along with the CGI Yoda and the creases in Mace's robes just smear out while the edge of his hood just vanishes BEHIND the added CGI shoulder. Shoddy as hell!

Unless it always looked that way of course, but I'm just not that familar with the prequels. I can't see why it would though, it just looks like poor CGI work...

Deleted Scene Video - Hoth Han & Leia

I like that - a lot.  Much more emotional and adult than what was chosen.  Well done.

I can see why it was deleted, Han's line delivery is terrible.  I'm wondering if for the deleted scenes they are purposefully using bad takes so people won't wonder why they never made it in.  I wouldn't put it past Lucas considering its taken so many years for this stuff to even come out.

You know things are weird when the Sports Editor of a University paper is writing an article which ends with the following statement:

The futility of pursuing perfection

By Bill Koester

But in today's age, fans clamoring for the uncut "Star Wars" of their youth can use the Internet to find bootleg copies of the originals or download them.  So Lucas may only put out the version he wants, but purists can still get the version they want.

These are my movies, not yours.

Maybe he should keep them to himself, then. >_<

But if he is going to sell "his" movies for lots of money, we as costumers should get a quality product, something these edited movies are not. Or go the easy way and give us a cool bonus, which would be the original trilogy unchanged, something he is not doing, either. It´s a lose/lose situation for us...

On the facebook page, someone added up how much money they had spent on star wars over the years- over $16,000.

I know I've also spent thousands over the past 28-or so years. Makes a comment like "grow up" sting that much more, and makes watching bootlegs all the more satisfying.

Not one...more....penny!

Is there a video of the Q & A in question? I'm by far not an apologist, but I find it hard to believe that GL said something like that to a fan's face.

Why the hell does erverything bright have to look pink in these movies?

The first thing I noticed in the 2004 edition were all the pink flashes in the Tantive IV fight....

[EDIT] And how the hell can I make pics smaller here?

That's actually not too far from how they're reacting.

I'm starting to believe Lucas was replaced by a double around the time Captain Eo came out. His beard went missing at the time!

Oh... if only that were true. It would be nice to actually respect Lucas as a filmmaker again... I cannot fathom some of his decisions; although, the seeds are somewhat evident all the way back to "From Star Wars to Jedi," when he was talking about being able to make a much better "Star Wars" with all his experience...*sigh*

Phantom Menace had very fine grain anyhow, as Lucas chose a purposely low grain stock i believe.

But now they have completely removed all the grain, this looks worse than the first gladiator blu ray, and worse than the first blu transfer of fellowship of the ring.

Have seen American graffiti and there they used a light touch, the grain is intact.  Much more prominently then say in thx 1138 george Lucas directors cut of which the HDTV rip has plenty of grain but the blu ray had been scrubbed, star wars trilogy still has grain if a but too much removed.

What is with Lucas these days he used to make films, not videos with cooked fake color levels and almost no grain.

Not Only does the complete saga set not have from star wars to jedi, the hope that it would include the Parbot documentary has since been crushed.

Okay, having followed the recent revelations about the imminent Blu-ray release of the 'Special Editions', it's pained me to see that this upcoming set is merely another half-baked effort overall, where the treatment of the original trilogy movies themselves are concerned nowadays.

It seems that on top of the more dubious 'creative decisions' of the 2004 dvds remaining in place, that they are now being accompanied by a few more ridiculous howlers.

Most of these latest unnecessary and ill-thought-out changes certainly disapppoint, but what really hacks me off (apart from the still-dreadful transfer colouration, of course!) is the CONTINUED lack of attention given to improving certain flawed scenes and shots with any kind of care and consistency!

This is NOT what I hoped to see from a company that used to pride itself as being at the forefront of technical excellence, and the sad fact is that too many of GL's ideas for 'enhancements' continue to suck big-time.  For every decent addition, there's several that have ruined the original versions.

SW, ESB, and ROTJ are now pretty much unwatchable for me in their latest forms, compared to how things used to look (and sound)...and I'm just glad I'm one of the lucky few that knows about the terrific preservations and edits that are available to compensate for this.

So to sum up -

And not to put too fine a point on it - Sorry George, but 'special' editions my ass!

Oh, somebody really needs to mockup a parody of the birth of [suited] Darth Vader - George shackled to a table while a beard descends and latches onto his face.

I wonder how things would have played out if Marquand / Kershner had decided to de special editions* of their own.

It is funny how much he looks like his dad there without the beard.

I wonder was it Linda's idea to go beardless.
