I am curious to see what the general public's reaction to the changes are when they find out about them for the first time when they watch their new BRs.

Goddamn...so waxy!  Some shots are beautiful, and others are Predator SE-level terrible.

Somehow it makes me feel better to see the whole saga treated so shabbily.  It's nicer than just the OT being shit on.  :)

Welcome KopiteTrooper.

I hope you enjoy yourself here :-)

Thanks Bingowings!!!

my soul seems cleaner already after dropping my order...

wish i still had playable VHS versions but they died along time ago (damn dodgy VHS player)

Lucas in my eyes will never perfect the series, hes doing more damage than good with all these special editions, super special editions, OMGZ EPIC speshul editions...

Do take a wander down the preservation section.

Harmy's de-specialized editions seem to be getting thumbs up all round.

Unfortunately, 99% of people are going to have no idea what you're talking about when you try to tell them how awful it looks. It's not like anyone is yelling "Noooooooooo!" when it happens.

So now I'm curious, there has to be something wrong with Episodes II and III as well.

Seeing this shot in HD really makes one appreciate just how truley awful the special effects in the Prequels really are =)

I really like the colors and the new Yoda in TPM. Almost makes me want to watch TPM again, somebody hit me. But the DNR... Ugh.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

@adywan: thanks for sharing those snapshots!

I have to agree that that there is too much softness in the cgi-free regions of the picture. Definately overfiltered! Like the Definitive collection in 1993, like the OT in 2004.

It would be interesting to know if that wax-look was already in the digital master from 1999 or if it is a result of filtering done for this blu-ray only.

If you ask me, at this resolution the cgi looks even more fake. People placed on the frame like done with copy & paste.

Will watch Episode I or III 1080p CHD tonight and will do a report after that.

No kidding it looks like a bad oil pastel painting in places.

I thought it looked more like a bad Photoshop.

There is practically no depth to that shot.

The Fambaa (or whatever the hell it is) looks like the closest object in the entire shot.

It also still looks too pink to these eyes.

Has anyone got a cell comparison for any of these Theed shots please?

I imagine with the time of day and the type of stone the buildings are supposed to be made of there would be a general rosy complexion to that shot but seeing as twelve years (has it really been that long?) have gone by my memory is naturally a bit fuzzy (my eyes too judging by some of the other details I've been missing recently).

Thanks to Shaft Windu, I just saw this quote:

"I remember seeing the scene and they cut to Vader and he just stares as the Emperor is doing this to his kid, and they do that two times and then finally he gets up… And it always felt like there was an emotive that was just missing. Throw it in! Im all for it!" Kevin Smith

Is this bullshit for real?

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Haven't found a film cell, but here's one of the Theed models. (don't think it's from the shot though)  So it's not the models, the rosy could have been added through lighting.  but yes it's rosy.  ok fine it's a poor comparison.

Yes Kevin Smith doesn't seem to interested in the debate.  He's out promoting his new movie.  That quote comes from:

...maybe around 17 minutes in, if i'm remembering correctly.

Wow.  I guess bad directors who are fat have to stick together.

I know they didn't, but I strongly wish they'd redo AOTC's Yoda with this one.  The CGI on Clones' is quite rough in places.

Star Wars Blu-ray: First to feature THX Media Director

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/41948/star-wars-blu-ray-thx-media-director

The forthcoming Star Wars Blu-rays will be the first discs to feature THX Media Director, the company's audio and video calibration metadata that tells compatible TVs, home cinema systems and projectors what settings to choose for an optimum theatre-style experience.

*OMIT*

Unfortunately, however, at present it is unlikely that you own a TV, AV amplifier or projector that can read the data. Compatible kit is not due until later this year, although major manufacturers do have products in the pipeline: "We've already announced deals with JVC, LG and Epson with their high-end projectors, and there's going to be more coming down the line," said Dean.

Hm.  The that clip is wonderful to see, of course, but I'm glad they cut it.  "YOU COULD USE A GOOD KISS!" was a great way to end the scene.
