This is supposed to be SW, and GL chooses to go the cheapest route? He must think he is selling crack cocaine and not Blu-ray discs. Why not? he can get away with shitty quality because he knows people are sheep and will not do the research to avoid this release.

And the saddest thing? Lucas created most of these sheep himself.

The thing you must realize 95 percent of the public doesn't care and isn't obsessive compulsive about SW like many in here are. (Myself included at times). Most are just casual fans. There's the old overused "sheep" comment again. This forum and others like it, make up only a tiny percentage of overall fandom, we shouldn't get the big head and think we are better than everyone else. Calling people "sheep" because they don't sweat every detail like we do is overboard IMHO.

I should clarify for everyone on these forums that Lowry's 2004 restorations were only done at 1920:1080 (a.k.a. "Full HD"), not 2K. I know this because there was an audio recording of a press conference that I downloaded from TF.N back in '04 and someone asked the Lowry guys what resolution they were working at. They answered "1920:1080" and the journalist went "oh, so, 2K?" and the Lowry guy specified "Uhhhh, no, 1920:1080 HD."

re: The DNR on TPM.

You've gotta be kidding me if that's how the actual blu-ray looks. That's Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition levels of bad DNR.

That shot, yes. But not the other ones (fortunately).

Yeah, I for one am more upset about this than about the OT changes, because we already have that transfer of OT in 1080p but the DVD transfer of TPM (used for the HDTV broadcasts) was really bad and I was hoping that we'd get a nice new transfer but if the new BD transfer has this level of DVNR, then the ugly old transfer is still preferable :-(

Why is that people accept every screencap as how it will look on your TV? A lot of these things are compressed and such.

The only way it's not real is if it is a deliberate hoax (which is of course possible,) no compression or unintentional change would give it this look.

Some of the first leaked screens from TPM looked horrible (extreme denoising causing a wax look), although some other ones looked really good.

HERE'S one of the worst ones (and HERE'S the HDTV-version as a comparison).

Wow! Someone tell Robert Harris over at HTF that looks like we have a title contender for the Blu-ray release of "Patton", who up until now had to be the most wax-works looking P.o.S. ever!

Oh man... it's funny, I looked that up at blu-ray.com and they praised it SO much on the website. I guess opinions on grain tend to vary from reviewer to reviewer, as I indeed have seen the website criticize DVR in later reviews for movies.

The fact that a lot of people aren't as discerning in their taste for Star Wars, don't have photographic memory, or care enough about their entertainment choices to do online research before buying a movie you're actually calling deindividuation?

Really?

Really?

Surely the theatrical 3-D release isn't going to look like that is it? It's going to be Wax figures in 3-D.

There is no fuss with the DVD Lazerdisc transfers, people just hating. Ok, it's technologically imperfect, or something...resolution is bad or something. I can't imagine the actual original is any better or worse, but apparently it is.

Alright, I used the wrong word.

Otherwise, they have no real knowledge that it's not the actual product, and subsequently they do nothing. Look up Burke and his quote on doing nothing.

You all have it wrong. No DVNR was used on The Phantom Menace. They simply digitally replaced all the characters with their action figure counterparts, to boost toy sales.

I'm surprised at how little DVNR was used on the OT for the Blu Rays. Glad to see they allowed film grain.

Though the actual release could change.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Has anyone confirmed/seen changes to the Prequel Trilogy aside from the CGI TPM Yoda?

That is probably what it's going to look like. 2+2=4

Really, i thought in Lucasland 2+2=5.

I thought it was the law of diminishing returns with Lucas, so two plus two should yield a lesser sum with each iteration.

Lucas is not Big Brother... he is more like an uncle with a Napoleon Complex.

I think the original THX 1138 serves as a nice allegory of the current Lucasfilm machine, buy more, buy more now, buy now and be happy.

That's what I feared when someone posted the Yoda comparison shot, but I thought "Nah, TPM is too modern to join in the Wax Wars. It's gotta be a fluke."

And here I was, thinking the Prequel Blus would be a worthy release =| =| =|

Going by the stills it looks like TPM digi-Yoda2011 works well in a variety of locations and lighting situations.

It looks better indeed than any other digi-Yodas.

It's certainly an improvement over TPM puppet-Yoda1999 (largely because they made such a screw up with that puppet in the first place).

I've only seen a few moments of him motion but going by what I've seen that is at least one step in the right direction.
