How long before CNN picks up on the current fuss, and Anderson Cooper puts George on the infamous "RidicuList"? Place your bets! ;)

X-men: First class has now surpassed Star Wars: The complete saga boxset as the best selling blu-ray in America at Amazon.

I don't think Lucasfilm was expecting this. Seems the negative attention the blu-rays have been getting had some influence. (:

We still have to get the SW boxset down to 1 star before it's released!

Mathematically that's gonna be nearly impossible, since that would require (almost) solely one-star-ratings. 1.5 might work though ;)

I was just watching ROTJ again and one thing i noticed is that a whole section of the movie looks almost out of focus. Anyone who has the blu-ray rips just check the part where the Tydirium is approaching Endor. It lasts until around the speeder bike chase. It's the same on the HDTV 2004 version too. It is such a huge drop in image clarity it looks almost DVD upscaled. Compare it to the rest of the movie and you will see what i mean.

EDIT you can check out just how different it is here:

Watched ROTJ, bluray 720p CHD release, on a projector and have to agree. Even my friend, who doesn't catch such things noticed the quality break. This is a big issue actually. I would even go as far as this disc needs replacement!!!

Can anyone, who has the blu ray ISO image, verify that it's on the original Disc as well?

Quality of the image is incredible, yes, but it doesn't fix the fact that all of the colors are still terrible. No stars in the space shots, Yoda is blue, etc.

So how do the uncompressed Blu-Rays (37 GB) hold up against the HDTV broadcasts? Is it a marked improvement? I would assume the extra 20 GB would do something.

Is not that much better, really. The 2004 HDTV were pretty good to begin with. The blu-ray encode is of course more even and stable. But it's not a huge difference in detail and overall quallity. It does look very good for a 2004 HD master. Just imagine how good a 2011 4k master would look..

A friend of mine thinks the changes are crap, but he's "accepted" them despite hating them so he's still buying the set.  I can't persuade him otherwise.

Look at all them comic book movies.

Hopefully this set continues to plunge lower and lower. Then again, the target audience probably doesn't even know what an Internet is or what "Han shoots first" even means.

Yeah, I'm now definitely decided to stick with the broadcasts as sources. The difference is so small, that it would be practically imperceptible in motion and I do not want to buy those Blu-Rays.

And what source did you use for the broadcast pics? It may be that there is an HDTV source that would look even better.

The best hope for us is to wish SW never existed in the first place.

Dude, shut the hell up, stop moping around this forum, and go download Harmy's or dark_jedi's preservations.

If you don't like my moping, then just ignore me dammit. People on this site can't admit this, but in recent years SW has done more harm than good. It took 30 years to realize the horrors unleashed because of SW's success. If the creator is the worst flaw of a franchise, than that franchise wasn't good in the first place.

Every loud, substanceless works of pure shit (e.g. Michael Bay) can undeniably trace their ancestry to SW. Cinema as an art form became economically unviable in Hollywood after 1977, and we still haven't recovered from the shock. The constant revisions and destructions of the original versions are just nature taking its course.

Does that sound mopey, Frink?

Maybe I am looking at something wrong, but the Blu Ray looks just a notch better to me.  The blacks are just slightly more crushed in the HDTV screenshots posted by budwhite.

Also, I just noticed that Luke's scream after jumping in Cloud City has been removed. Not sure if this is the first release with it removed or if the HDTV broadcasts or 2004 DVD set did the same.

I think IV V VI should be replaced seeing as the errors weren't all corrected, especially when they said they were!

Yeah, because Hollywood NEVER churned out any crap before 1977, especially not big spectacle films or crappy sequals.

And God knows nothing good has been made since.

I think your grasp of film history is lacking somewhat.

Well this is just dandy! It seems that the Blu-Rays seem to have no purpose whatsoever. I'll bet that color-correcting them would be a hassle since they adjusted some things independently...

As for X-Men First Class beating it in Amazon sales, well that's just fantastic. I actually thought that was a very good movie...

I knew shit was being made before 1977, but thankfully people had more common sense back then and avoided them. I'm sure if twilight and transformers were made in 1965 they would have bombed like they should. But in the last 35 years, shlock has become acceptable to the moviegoing public.

No. Again you're objectively wrong.

The Universal Monsters, Godzillas, Planet of the Apes, James Bonds, were all money makers, which is why the studios kept churning them out.And Cleopatra was the highest grossing film of the year. 1963. How was that Lucas's fault?

Star Wars Saga Boxset has been #1 on Amazon since it was announced, but has dropped to #2 this week to X-Men because of the pre-order cancellations.

Now as I have said, this set will still sell like hotcakes, but I firmly believe the NOOO change was the turning point in the 'casual' fan getting fed up with all the OT changes.  When the 04 Set came out, there was not as much anger as I have seen by fans and columnists.

See, the guy is using the Premiere broadcast captures, while the German HDTV captures were supposedly higher quality (I remember seeing some comparisons somewhere ages ago), I'd really like to see some comparisons of the BD with those. I don't have the original German captures in 1080p but some guys here do. Adywan?

Could you post some comparisons please? Ideally the same frames as those posted at AVS.

I agree, I have seen many people saying that they were fine with everything until NOOO! However, there are also more of us on the internet, and more of us paying attention because we have been burned before.

I had no idea what I was buying in 2004. I didn't think there were any changes from the '97 version at that stage. I'm not saying that I like that version, but I bought it because it was Star Wars on DVD and had a special features disc!

I have learned my lesson.

So has anyone started any kind of audio list of changes for the new Blu's that are coming, all I know of so far are the goofy dragon call in SW and the no....noooooooo in Jedi, if this is it this is going to be the easiest audio editing I have ever done LOL.

Thanks
