And what source did you use for the broadcast pics? It may be that there is an HDTV source that would look even better.

Maybe I am looking at something wrong, but the Blu Ray looks just a notch better to me. The blacks are just slightly more crushed in the HDTV screenshots posted by budwhite.

Also, I just noticed that Luke's scream after jumping in Cloud City has been removed. Not sure if this is the first release with it removed or if the HDTV broadcasts or 2004 DVD set did the same.
