Ultimate Villains

Who is your ultimate villain?  I would lean towards movie villains, but if you prefer you can list book villains too.  And tell us why, not just who.

Since I myself find this a difficult thing to narrow down, I propose the following sub-categories if you so choose to use them:

Best villain to love (in other words, you're actually rooting for him to win the day):

Best villain to hate (or that villain you simply despise because he's so twisted, but you nevertheless find him/her fascinating):

Best villain to love to hate (in other words, this baddie is evil, but you find perverse pleasure in his nefarious actions):

Other (anything you can think of, such as coolest fighter, best dressed, weirdest, least villainous, or anything else that makes the character enjoyable to you):

Myself?  Hmmm...

Best villain to love: Grand Admiral Thrawn

Best villain to hate: Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (from the novel Dune, not either film version)

Best villain to love to hate: Darth Vader (OT version) or Khan Noonien Sing

Other: Not sure at the moment.

I may revise or update my list, but these are the first names that come to mind at the moment.

Best villain to love: Rene Belloq (He had good manners where Indy had none)

Best villain to hate: Jenner (Going so far as to kill Nicodemus?  That is bad to the CORE)

Best villain to love to hate: George Lucas (I hate what he's doing and ignoring today, but I have hope)

Other: Heinz Doofenshmirtz (Least Villainous, Most Incompetent.  Every "Inator" he builds, he puts a self-destruct button on it.)

The franchises I get nerdy about are so obscure that not even most nerds know about them.

Best villain to love to hate: Kobe Bryant  I hate him like I hated Darth Vader in 1977-1980.  The Black Momba is just bad to the bone, asking "Who's your daddy?" while draining threes or blowing by you to stuff the net.

Best villain to hate: Tracy McGrady.  I hate him like I hated Darth Vader in 2005.  A whiny spoiled little boy sulking on the bench.

Best villain to love:  Tom Brady.  Ol' Captain America has those sweet locks and mad skillz on the gridiron.  Besides, it takes a truly humble man to marry a woman who makes more money than him.

Other: Pete Rose.  Come on, Bud!  Let the man in the hall!

Best villain to love: Michael Corleone

Best villain to hate: Patrick Bateman

Best villain to love to hate: Heath Ledger's Joker

Other (mine is coolest): Darth Vader; before the prequals...of course.

Another villain I love to hate is Tuco from "The Good the Bad and the Ugly"

That reminds me of another villain to hate.... El Indio from For a Few Dollars More. No love here at all, this guy was just sinister.

Darth Vader.

Who i am completely sure Lucas never understood since he ruined this character with those prequels.

Episode III had you rooting for Obi Wan to put that whiny little bastard in his place, instead of caring you laughed as he burned in the lava.  That sociopath psychotic child killing bastard deserved it.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I have to add Gollum to my list.  I read the Hobbit years ago before the LOTR films came out and thought he was fascinating even then.  Almost done rereading it now, and his brief introduction in this book is fun.  A bizarre and interesting character, even before LOTR really fleshed him out.  I'd probably file him under "love to hate."

So Tyrph, you must be Boba Fett in disguise.

Here's one for my ultimate villains you hate to hate to hate so very much!

Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg from the Fifth Element.  I like Gary Oldman, but this was probably the stupidest role I've seen him in.  Not a cool bad guy at all.

TV Show Dr. Smith said:

I resent that, sir!  If you ask me, the real villain is the Robot!

Movie Dr. Smith said:

Pathetic fool, he was talking about me.  I'm actually evil, you just complain about your brittle back endlessly.  Nobody takes a guy like that seriously.

Spider Smith said:

But of course he was talking about me!  I'm the ultimate villain!  I'm actually a monster!  I can swallow the both of you in one bite!  In fact, I may do it anyway...

Movie Dr. Smith said:

Ha!  Don't make me laugh.  Without me, you wouldn't even exist!

Spider Smith said:

That didn't stop me from throwing you out the window, did it?

TV Show Dr. Smith said:

Enough of this!  This bickering is pointless.  There's only one way to settle this.  Double KO, which one of us were you talking about?
