Are they also the people who started the rumor that Jimmy Smits would be on Alderaan in Star Wars when the death star blows it up in the 2004 edit?

Well Lucas did not replace Tippett's stuff with cgi did he?

The Walkers are still the same.  The Rancor is the same only recomped, the tauntaun has not been changed as far as i am aware not even on the blu ray.

Muren thought the Walker sequence in empire should have been completely redone in cgi and Lucas said it was not necessary, it was Lucas who saved the original scenes from being violated by cgi.

Yeah, I got the impression from one interview that A LOT of the visual fx changes were actually Muren's and other ILMers doing, not Lucas. George probably is barely aware of half of this particular stuff. A lot of it was solely warm up for the prequels, despite all the hot wind about "technology finally catching up".

Wasn't the genesis of the SE primarily Mos Eisley?

Wow. That's just shear genius. I actually never minded the scene before, and yet this works on so many levels.

he still has fans by the balls by forcing them to...

You can justify buying this box set however you want and then rail on Lucas for being a monster and ruining the franchise, but he's not forcing you to do anything.  If you give him a hundred bucks for a few deleted scenes you want and six films you don't want, that's all you.

We have to buy...

Absolutely nothing.

So the Forcecast released a new podcast today. It's pre-recorded and they apparently only had heard the first two audio leaks from the blu-rays. I have to say it's pretty sad listening to them try to justify the changes while you can hear the disappointment in their voices. You can listen to the podcast here.

Here are some highlights:

54:32 They first start discussing the blu-rays

76:54 They discuss rumors of the ewok eyes being changed and Jason confuses the 2004 release with tweaks done to Greedo in "Star Wars: Revised"

79:59 Jason reveals his love for Hayden in ROTJ, Jimmy reveals his disdain for the change in pacing with the added shuttle and changed dialog in ESB

91:38 Jason reveals he had never noticed the Emperor's slug before and neither of them had ever heard the term "Emperor's Slug" before

93:16 Jason extolls the fact that George changes the films in each release and that to him it's like Christmas

94:33 They discuss how they learned a year ago from Matt Wood that in 2007 he, Dave Accord and Tom Myers had gone back into the audio to "clean it up"

95:50 the start of Matt Wood's discussion

99:25 They play the leaked audio of the new Krayt yell and quickly try to justify it, call it cool and ominous

101:01 They spend two and a half minutes trying to set up and justify the new Vader dialog before finally playing it

104:21 After the clip they both kind of pause and stumble before launching into justifications

111:25 They hint that maybe the vader scene isn't real anyway

After listening to the podcast if you'd like there are two ways to contact them. The first is their email which is forcecast@forcecast.net or you can leave a voice message at (330) 754-05FC (0532). If you decide to contact them please try and remain civil.

What a bunch of fucktards.

'Cgi Yoda is a superior effect!?'

What the Fuck!?

How is a cartoon a better effect than a practical effect? Puppet Yoda requires actual work, as opposed to sitting on your arse doing nothing and occasionally clicking.

Yeah sure using a puppet may be a pain in the arse and may take time and a lot of effort, but that effort will actually show up on screen.

On another subject, I'm kinda amused by the reaction to the blu-rays, while the NOOOOOOOO!!! is indeed a horrible change and ruins the scene (and I swear it has to be George giving us the finger, why else would he add the most ridiculised moment of the prequels?), the movie was ruined long ago, it's no worse than Hayden's ghost. Or Boba's voice in Empire. It's strange that for some reason this is the last straw for some people.

This.

As much as I hate the No and think the others pointless, A LOT worse has been done in the past. So this is nothing new to me. So it's interesting to see so many fans unbothered by Greedo shooting first and then Hayden's head FINALLY following Vader's ill-got example and saying "No" These are pretty minor in comparison, and yet it's proving to be the last straw. It almost gives one hope.

To be fair, they were discussing the replacement of the Episode I Yoda. They at the same time made it clear that they felt the original trilogy puppet Yoda was the real deal and that it could never be replaced.

Just want to share my thoughts on the new ESB audio commentary, that is contained on the new blu rays.

I listened to the whole thing now. It is really interesting, some nice background information. How much of the information is new to you depends on your knowledge about Star Wars of course.

Alec Guiness is there once, Harrison Ford once or twice, Frank Oz three times, Gary Kurtz one or two times, Billy Dee Williams once, Peter Mayhew ~ 3 times, Murren a few times, Mark Hamill a few times, ...

Mostly talking persons are Kershner, Burtt, Lucas, Fisher.

My impression is 60% is unused footage from the audio commentary, done for the 2004 dvds. The rest is sampled together. Nothing seems to be new stuff - it's from the archives.

It's sad that there is no subtitle information about the time the interview has been done. Carry Fisher is talking about how wonderful they have added the clouds there, but since there is a OOT and a SE, you can't be sure if she is talking about the artwork from 1980 or 1997. You have to rime everything together yourself. She is refering to the picture she is just seeing, so it's probably from the audio commentary of 2004. It would have been a lot easier, if the year of the interview has been provided like in "Building Empire". It's easy for Carry Fisher but not that easy for all the snippets.

Gary Kurtz is talking about white snow / Blue snow right in the first minutes. They intend to have white snow! They even were afraid that any temperature changes would make the white snow blue.

GL is talking during the Vader is father reveal scene how different the experience is if you watch it 1-6 instead of 4-6, 1-3. That part is interesting to hear.

Burtt is sometimes really boring when he talks about each of the sounds origin. Some of his talk was nice however.

I should advise everyone. In Spain the Audio for all the packs will be:

    * DTS-ES 6.1 English.
    * DTS 5.1 Spanish.
    * DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 German.
    * Dolby Digital 5.1 Hungarian, Polish

Wich means the English audio WONT be HD, it will just be 6.1 for some reason while the German will be HD. In case you live in Europe check this out before buying the Blurays because you might not get the HD English Audio.

^ Could someone explain A. what's the difference between these audio formats, and B. why would they include all these variations?  Why not just one type across the board.

If it's not "HD Master Audio" or similar, it's got some compression on it. They put so many audio tracks on the Europeon ones so they can sell the same discs in multiple countries, if I understand correctly.

There are two kinds of "compression"... there is compression to make the file(s) smaller, and there is compression to make it sound louder.  From what I have heard, the latter type of compression has been heavily applied (as on the previous DVDs), and even providing an "uncompressed" (file) version it will still sound squashed compared to original versions.

Who are these guys? And should I care what they think?

They run the biggest and most popular Star Wars podcast out there. They regularly talk with all the big names in Star Wars these days including employees at Lucasfilm and the cast of the Clone Wars. Basically this is how a large portion of Star Wars fans learn what is going on with Star Wars.

How popular are podcasts? Maybe we should start one to counter this one and educate the people as to what's really happening.

The forecast are no better than nazi sympathizers. Losing SW wars is like losing a vital organ: you could probably live, but the quality of life is that much lower. Yet despite our outrage at these changes, the furor will die away and people will stop caring about these pointless changes. What a shame.

And for some reason someone at Lucasfilm decided that most of Europe (besides France UK and Italy) would prefer to have German in HD instead of English, the original audio of the movie.

Because every country that had a release in their national language that is their language.  Not English.

Its like a Japanese anime being released here in the states, usually the English track is master audio and the Japan track of lesser quality, the reverse is true in japan.

I believe the japan release will have Japan DTS HD 6.1 MA. In Japanese and the English track will be the lesser encode on there.  In mean of course Star Wars. The original Japan release came out in 1978, i have no idea what the special edition dubs were like.

One of the leaks is from the Japanese release and here are the details people are reporting:

DTS-HD Master Audio English 4069 kbps 6.1 / 48 kHz / 4069 kbps / 24-bit (DTS Core: 6.1-ES / 48 kHz / 1509 kbps / 24-bit)
* DTS Audio Japanese 768 kbps 5.1 / 48 kHz / 768 kbps / 24-bit
Dolby Digital Audio Thai 448 kbps 5.1 / 48 kHz / 448 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio English 224 kbps 2.0 / 48 kHz / 224 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio English 224 kbps 2.0 / 48 kHz / 224 kbps

Only if these were for Germany alone, not entire Europe. If this was the OOT I could care about this, LOL. We aren't getting what we want anyways.

I thought TFN lost some street cred after someone who used to run the site claimed to have seen a rough cut of Episode III, and that Yoda breaks wind in the movie? People have short memories I guess.http://www.aintitcool.com/node/18690

Wow I had no idea the TFN people knew so much of the movie ahead of time, it sucks that place is  sort of an unofficial arm of LFL, it's really gross and creepy and I definitely consider the devout moonies there part of the problem. I actually wouldn't mind having a real argument but I can't log in anymore, and they censor that stuff anyway.

*Nevermind* it's actually at 23.976.  One of the leaks is at 24.39.  Not sure why that is...

*old post* Anyone know why the video would be at 24.39 fps?

Does he talk about this applying to any specific shots?  When do you think this recording took place?
