To all those who support, or semi-support this release: YOU ARE PART OF THE FUCKING PROBLEM. The only way we have a chance of getting a proper release of the OOT is to refuse to purchase these films if they do not include it. If nobody bought these blu-rays, Lucasfilm would be shitting themselves and would release an...

You know what, fuck it. George probably wouldn't release the OOT just out of spite. Apparently the last time he viewed them publicly he was wincing and cringing when watching it. He fucking hates them because he has no fucking taste in good fucking movies anymore. TPM, AOTC, ROTS, Indy 4: they all point to this asshole's complete fucking idiocy, lack of restraint, and love for shitty and fucking unconvincing CGI.

So yes, go ahead and buy these for your oh-so-precious deleted scenes.

LMAO! So Spence, myself, Adywan, and others here at OT are the problem because we are still getting this Set? man I really have some things to say but I am sure I will get banned, some people!

I think THX1138 would have sold better with both versions and it still didn't matter to him. People buying/not buying this thing won't affect him unless it was millions, enough to make this box a flop, which won't happen.

I'm very skeptical of the idea that any boycott will send a meaningful message to Lucas, as the number of people who will buy the blurays is just too big.

I suggest a new strategy: Rather than focusing on "Don't buy the Blu-Rays because the changes suck", focus on "Wait to buy the eventual Original, unchanged release".

  1. Hopefully has just as much of an impact, revenue-wise (however small that may be)
  2. Focuses on a positive "Wait to buy" rather than a negative "Don't buy!"
  3. Sets up the expectation of that as of yet unpromised release.

Well I do not think either approach will work, because of what you already have said,

"as the number of people who will buy the blurays is just too big."

It's a real shame people are still buying these JUST for the deleted scenes. I mean, they'll be on youtube the next day. And aren't they bad quality?

I know boycotting this release with achieve nothing, but come on. I want the deleted scenes as much as the next guy, but I'd never buy this crap.

I support fan editors picking this up... but it feels bad man =(

I'm not getting the comments, but I am getting something just as silly - every comment is getting flagged as spam.  And when I unflag them, then I'm told each one has gotten too many negative votes, and there's nothing I can do about that.

Oh, and current tally is 15 up, 36 down.

People are silly.

WTF? What was so negative about my comment? There are surely some people whose mothers raised the afterbirth and threw away the child...

It's the same guys from over at Blu-Ray.com that have been doing it all over youtube. They started attacking all of my videos so i had to disable the ratings because it was getting stupid. These are adults that are acting like little kids.

There is different kind of information on changes depending which site/forum you go to. I am concentrating on the stuff that I couldn't detect in my 1080p versions.

www.starwars-union.de (german site) reports stuff like:

- Blue Filter on Hoth got reduced - FALSE

- Obi Wan Ghost on Hoth can be seen a lot clearer now - ONLY BECAUSE IT IS 1080P - NO CHANGE

- Lightsabers got fixed and are now shiny red and blue, with white cores - ONLY FOR SOME SHOTS - NONE IN ESB

- Leia Hologram is more blue - FALSE.

Here are the lightsabres in ESB. So they have supposed to have brightened the cores? A few shots in ROTJ and a couple in ANH , but they have left ESB untouched. (click images to view full size)

And i found another small change in ESB. They have added reflections to the window in Cloud City.

Wouldn't it have been better for them to have fixed all the problems caused by the 2004 master FIRST before spending time adding and altering stuff that people probably won't even notice?

Maybe I'll pick a set up in a charity shop in time for when the fanedits using sections of them come out so I can download them with a clear conscience.

I won't get them directly that much is certain.

1. Wasn't there a rumor that the stormtroopers have been re-dubbed by Temuera Morrison? I didn't catch any dialog changes yet, did you?

2. OT A/V quality issues

I don't get it how people can find this release to be of good video quality. I could only think of the increased resolution, that let people buy this like there is no tomorrow.

The good thing about this is: for the next bluray release Lucasfilm will have to think of something else to get 'general' people to buy it.

General viewer don't care about colors, don't care about lightsaber colors, garbage mattes, small cgi-enhancements, audio changes.

Damn it, I found the answer myself: it will be 3D experience. So no need to fix anything, not even for the next blu ray release. :-(

The only hope is a single-movie release with OUT in HD as bonus.

So I'm the problem because I'm a Star Wars fan and am looking forward to purchasing the blu-ray set?

I get why this site exists, and I agree that George should release the Original Trilogy in good quality. He really should. But me buying Star Wars stuff is not part of the problem. The petitions won't work, boycotting the release won't work, and not buying a Commander Rex ultimate silver plated action figure will not work. Lucas has to decide to release the movies as they were, and he doesn't want to. That's the "fucking problem" as it was so eloquently put.

Can I just enjoy my Star Wars stuff in peace? Can't we all just get along?

Very nicely said Spence, and I agree.

Could someone please explain to me what happened in this thread? I'm so confused.

Okay, this thread exploded over the last couple days. I've simply skimmed over each page, I'm not gonna read each and every post on the last 15 pages.

My reactions:

-Jabba's Door - first off, why did they add this? Secondly, it looks terrible.

-The blinking eyes - so now they've actually created a continuity problem as the ewoks don't blink in the ewok movies.

-Han's de-freezing: You have got to be kidding me! Just like Jabba's new door, it looks terrible. What was the rationale for this anyway? It's almost as if Lucas is ashamed of the early 80's optical effects that don't gel with the look of the prequels, so he's just slathering it in bad photoshop.

-Obi-Wan's ridiculous howl: I'm not gonna lie, that literally made me laugh. Freakin' hilarious!!!

I'm sure there are more "surprises" yet to surface so I'll just leave my comments at that for now.

In answer to your questions:

  1. Yes
  2. Yes
  3. No

But to clarify my position - George will not release the OOT. He hates it. I will not - in any way, shape, or form - support him or his empire financially any longer. No comics,  no action figures, no soundtracks, no video games, no fastfood chain tie ins. Nothing.

Buying the blu-ray used to make your own versions is acceptable, so I implore guys like Adawyn, Harmy, and others to go this route.

You're assuming those are in any meaningful canon

Well, it's always looked terrible.

You're absolutely right, and by that regard, we should actually have the Ewoks speaking English in ROTJ, since they do that in the Ewok movies. And they should CGI in 100% more Wilford Brimley. Who should blink.

all I can think of is that tweet Katie Lucas put out:  Haters are gonna hate, but, in the end, they're still going to buy it.  That's the (up until now extremely accurate) impression they have of us.

You're right.  I just cancelled my pre-order.  I hope I didn't just throw away my $40 gift certificate I used in the process.  But I just have to prove that spoiled brat wrong.

That short is 11 minutes and 38 seconds.

Speaking of the motif of 1138, I would have thought they could have added one to ROTJ.  Why does NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! have to be the theme when there are so many other threads running through the film, like the 1138's or the 327's or the I have a bad feeling about this's?
