I still can't belive it...  this is unfathomable..

The climax of the whole film, arguably the WHOLE SAGA, has been ruined.  All of the changes I can accept, but seriously?!  What the hell, man?!

"Nooooooooooooo..."

It's possible that popular opinion made Lucas cut Jar-Jar out of much of the PT

If that was the case he would not have added Jar Jar and Hayden in return of the jedi in 2004 as a middle finger to the fans who hated them.

I posted this (my first ever) review on Amazon:

(one star)

George Lucas continues to tinker with his films yet again. Adding even more out-of-place CGI to decades old films and making other unnessecary changes while failing to fix obvious technical flaws... And all of this while continuing to suppress (& allowing to rot away) the original versions of these historic films that started it all. If other classic and much older films like Metropolis and The Wizard of Oz can be restored; and films like Superman 2, Blade Runner, and Close Encounters can have multiple cuts released so veiwers can choose which version to watch, why can't Star Wars? It's time for Lucasfilm to restore & preserve the orginal films that changed history and became an instant legend. This has just gotten ridiculous.

If you'd like to know more about the various changes the films have been through, as well as the current state of things, check out savestarwars.com.

On a related note, I read over at the HTF that the Moroder cut of Metropolis is going to get a DVD and Blu release. Hell has a snow day!

Have you guys checked out Amazon?  Did they merge a bunch of reviews from other DVD editions together?  How much do you want to bet that this was to balance out all of the negative reviews the set was getting.

That irks me.  That really, really irks me.....

Count me in as one that just doesn't see the point of the "NOOOO". That scene worked perfectly as is, with Vader making a decision while hearing his son's pleas. Now, it's like he's vocally trying to convince himself this is wrong to act.

Though I must say that as awful as this is, so far the changes have been much more subtile than I expected. Maybe I just don't know about the others, as I'm still digging through the thread. Some minor effects work, pointless and bad looking touches to R2 and Wicket, and some horrid sound changes. Honestly, I expected more. The new CGI is atrocious, but that's no shocker either. The SE was always half-assed and well below ILM's level. It always did irritate me even more because of such. Why should that change?

Still can't see myself buying this set, as much as I want the extras. I also agree that it's odd Lucas has no problem releasing unfinished deleted scenes, but can't release the theatrical cuts in decent quality.

That really surprises me. Better late than never, I guess...?

I wonder if there will be much interest in that since the version with all the lost Argentinian footage was released.

BTW, there are over 50 "likes" on the Facebook page. I know a lot of people here don't have an account, but for those who do and haven't "Liked" the page yet- please do. And please, everyone forward the link to any friends who may be interested. Thanks!

I thought Matt and Trey were a bit extreme in that indiana jones south park episode, but now i see they were right on the money.

The sad thing fans love the abuse and will pay the 90 dollars to see their favorite movies violated once again, and then again in 3-D.

I was split on whether to get the blu ray and maybe see the 3-D version of phantom menace but i shall now boycott both.

Canceled order.

Cannot wait for hot waffles to update their song to include mention of the blu ray.

Yesterday when I first found out about the "Nooo" I was laughing because I just thought that it was hilarious how they're trying to pass it off as something that could actually be in a movie. It looks like something someone would do on Youtube just for a good laugh. But now I've fully realized that Lucas is actually dead serious. Like, wtf? He just took away all the emotion in that scene. Although I thought it was hilarious the first time I saw it because I'm like, "WTF, HAHA SERIOUSLY?? THIS IS SO BAD IT MUST BE A JOKE"

lol and I just had to post this:

This is the really sad thing.

All these fan versions fail at trying to deliberately out crap Lucas because they are too finessed.

Lucas did his by accident while trying to 'improve' the film.

What kind of world are we living in Howard the Duck gets an HD transfer and a DVD release based on that, its the theatrical version restored in 5.1 audio uncut, and the star wars trilogy got released in 2006 as a non anamorphic bonus disc from 1993 D1 master tape, the same used for the THX laserdiscs, in subpar to DVD quality.

There is more of a chance of the Holiday Special being released than Lucas spending millions on a restoration of films he hates.

As fans we may have suffered through the special editions, the prequels, the gout, the bad 2004 dvds and now the blu rays.  But the destruction of star wars trilogy is far from comeplete since the 3-D versions are in the planning.

And there is no guarantee Lucas will stop there.

They're cheap, that's why. LFL is not a film company anymore, it's a corrupt multinational corporation that puts profit ahead of everything else. It's ironic because GL is a liberal who wrote SW as a rebellion against the "system."

As someone pointed out earlier, if George was trying to make a profit out of these changes, he would put more marketing into it. Unless the leak was INTENTIONAL and they did this to stir up interest...

Also, Mielr, that's a very astute point. Those probably are effects intended for the 3D release. That explains the doodads, at least.

edit: more Katie Lucas drama. ""There is a special place in Hell for haters next to the one for child molesters and people who talk obnoxiously in the theatre"

Don't you bring Firefly into this!

As mad as I am right now, it's still possible to be madder.

Via bigshinyrobot.com, a quote attributed to "someone" at Lucasfilm:

"Yes, the updates are confirmed. We hope fans will wait to see for themselves how they fit into the Saga before making any judgments."

So in other words,"Give us your money first, then complain all you want."  Pathetic.  I'll judge all I want right now, because I'm sure as shit not giving them any money, and I will never sit through these versions of the OT.

Looks like Amazon separated their reviews again (unless I had somehow clicked on the wrong page at first).  230 one-star reviews vs 130 five-star.

I'd like to think this is the last straw when it comes to the tweaks, I don't ever remember THIS much outrage over any of the other changes, but I don't really think anything's going to change.  Lucasfilm reminds me of some weird cult (Wal-Mart employees can tell you about that).

I don't know how much effect this negative feedback will have on LFL, it is everywhere, the usual big format release has never had this much negative attention......hopefully something good may come of this

Love the new sig, sky guy.

I am really enjoying this. I'm glad the Blu Rays have more changes and that the official release will suck worse than ever (except for more difficult de-specializations).

I am optimistic that a lot of apologists, gushers or whatever you want to label them are finally going to understand how a lot of us feel and begin to question Lucas' decisions like never before.

Hopefully the trend of calling Lucasfilm out on these changes will continue in the mainstream media and snowball into a worldwide backlash.

Hell no, leave it up.  I have no problem with the repost.  I'm hoping to get some adywan-level hate in the comments. ;-)

Nope, so far you're just getting Adywan hate. lol. The usual small band of Blu-Ray.com knobs at it again. Pretty obvious its from there because the only times you see crap like that its the same type of comments and its always shortly after a video has been posted over there. And it's always the same "three eyes" mentioned in the comments too. F**king idiots. try to be anonymous yet they have posted the same crap over there, so it's obvious its them.  You can bet 99% of the idiots that always post shit like this about me would shit themselves if they ever come face to face with me. It's so pathetic its laughable.

I'm not getting the comments, but I am getting something just as silly - every comment is getting flagged as spam.  And when I unflag them, then I'm told each one has gotten too many negative votes, and there's nothing I can do about that.

Oh, and current tally is 15 up, 36 down.

People are silly.

Not something new for you guys but its nice that gets more publicity

read George Lucas’ passionate words against George Lucas.

These words are hollow.  GL and Friends were trying to get the ability to have final say over derivative works.  This speech was a smoke screen, as they grabbed for more.  If they had won, GL could have prohibited Space Balls from ever being seen.
