Harmy, would it be possible to release these versions as high quality (=almost lossless) encode in 1080p? 720p is better than nothing, but frankly said not much more.

the original PremiereHD caps should be somewhere at usenet

Harmy has addressed why they're 720p rather than 1080p.

people put in alot of time and hard work on these projects for free.  I think they welcome suggestions but refering to their blood and sweat as 'little more than nothing' is worse than looking a gift horse in the mouth.

People don't read threads either, don't forget, especially new ones. ;)

I notice he edited his post to include the words "frankly said," like that excuses the rudeness. That's like saying ' no offense, but you're an idiot.'

Personally, 720p is high enough quality and 1080p could be overkill. As Harmy reasoned, 720p is better for AVCHDs.

Harmy - I don't know if this has come up elsewhere since you have separate threads for each film, but now that they're all out and you did case art, how about some accompanying disc art?  And if you really feel ambitious, how about a Trilogy cover for those of us that want to put them in a single three disc case?

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

This looks incredible. I haven't been interested in Star Wars for years, due to the prequels and the stupid constant tinkering by Lucas on the originals. Until now! Thank you Harmy. I'm downloading as I type this. Can't wait.

edit- part 12 didnt seem to be working last night but now it is. Woohoo! cheers

Hi, I'm back from my holiday. I really enjoyed myself and I especially loved Edinburgh (didn't like London all that much to be honest).

I managed to do a lot of STAR WARS related stuff (STAR WARS isn't very big in the Czech Republic, so I always enjoy looking for SW related stuff when I'm abroad.)

I got to hold the SW Blu-Ray box sets in my hand (the empty pre-order samples) in HMV and it is indeed super ugly.

I went to the London Film Museum, which was pretty neat but unfortunately a lot of their SW stuff was borrowed by someone at the time but they had a rocking Ray Harryhousen exhibition.

Here are a few pictures: (Don't you just hate it when people insist on showing you pictures from their holiday

;-P )

I visited like four different Forbidden Planet stores looking for some action figures missing in my collection (ROTJ Luke, ROTJ Leia, OT Obi-Wan, OT Emperor) and was very disappointed that I couldn't find any of them except for ROTJ Luke.

On the bright side, I did find ROTJ Luke and a very cheap action figure of Jabba's fat dancer and a Sarlacc scene Skiff, also very cheap. And the first charity shop I set foot in had a VHS trilogy set I didn't have.

And as the cherry on top, I heard the STAR WARS Theme played on bagpipes in the streets of Edinburgh :-)

----------------------------------------------

Now back on topic:

re: 720p vs 1080p:

Yeah, I think I gave several clear reasons why this was 720p only. But I guess I'll have to repeat them:

A) 720p is easier to work with as my computer couldn't handle 1080p in AE (it's really slow even with 720p).

B) The despecializations would stand out even more, especially those where I had to use GOUT only.

C) 720p looks great even on really big screens (most theatrical prints don't have resolution much higher than that).

D) I don't have a BD burner, so I'm sticking with AVCHD and for that 720p is definitely better. Just look at this.

And E) Doing a 1080p version now would mean redoing the whole thing from scratch as I worked with 720p from the beginning.

---------------------------------------

re: covers

I'll see what I can do. I have some plans in the trilogy box area but I didn't start working on it yet.

---------------------------------------

re: missing part on MU: It's probably just temporarily unavailable, so try switching JD off for a few hours and then try again, it should work.

-------------------------------------

Now to v1.2:

I have now decided not to use the Blu-Rays for the new version of my edits, since there are even more changes and it is of course the exact same transfer. It's a pity about the compression artefacts but I just wouldn't feel safe using it as my source at least until it was scrutinized very thoroughly for all the new changes.

Now, I'm having quite a hard time keeping track of all the suggestions for v1.2, so if some kind soul could go through the thread and make a nice little list for me, that would be nice. Also, it would be good if you guys who send me suggestions via PM could repost them here, because it's practically impossible to find suggestion among the hundreds of PMs I have in my inbox. Thanks.

Very Cool pictures, Harmy! Looks and sounds like you had a great trip!

You are right about the part that was missing. It's already back and working fine.

I am nearly done downloading Star Wars and I will see it for the first time since I was a little kid as it was really meant to be seen. Being born in 87, For the most part I grew up with the  97SE versions, so this will be a real treat. I hate when old films are mutilated. Looking forward to 1.2 as well!

I know you worked on some of the shots I mentioned but I really can't think of all the ones from other people. I will give it another go.

Lets see.

Falcon fleeing the Death star.

Those two shots of that long ass beam in Leia's hologram in Ben's home.

Any orange laser shots from the Jedi remote need to be  yellow.  Like that one that shoots Luke in the leg.

That bit of different lighter Blue around the Dewback as been and company walk in the Cantina.

That moving circle on the floor when the Stormtroopers are knocking on doors.

(wishful thinking ) original star field.

I was also hoping you could make Leia's tits bigger.  I was hoping Lucas would fix that.

Just kidding!

I can't think of anything else.

Welcome back, Harmy. I don't blame you for not feeling the need to use the new blu-rays for v1.2 as I don't think from the looks of things they would really add much.

By the way, in a few of those pics it looks like you took a trip to my house as I have those exact life-size statues of Vader, Fett and the Stormtrooper. LOL.

Do you have any of the old vintage figures or do you just collect the new ones?

Hello!

Big fan of the Despecialized editions, imho the best looking OT reconstructions out there so far. Normally i don't burn fan-edits, preservations or other projects, but this time i will. These will be my blu-ray editions of Star Wars, even if they are 'just' 720p, contain less-than-perfect GOUT footage and will be burned on a DVD-9 (in my case a DVD-DL). Screw the official ones. Before i'll burn Empire and Jedi (i will wait for Star Wars V1.2), i have a couple of questions:

1. Are these covers designed for 11 mm / 14 / other mm blu-ray cases? I really want to use those covers and buy the correct cases for them :x

2. Do you have plans for an updated Empire or Jedi (for the near future)? Because i will feel kinda pissed if i burned all the AVCHD's and hear 'Alright, V1.2 is available and guess what...Jedi and Empire are getting updates too soon!!' a day after. I want a little certainty, y'know? ;P

Thanks,

Mondess122

I have all the old vintage 3.75" figures from 1977-1983 as well, but they're all just in a box. Next to the life-size displays they're not very impressive. LOL. I can post some pics of my life-size statues if Harmy doesn't think it would derail his thread too much.

Harmy what about after the death star is blown up and Han Solo says "great shot kid that was one in a million" there seems to be a missing frame there , also when the millenium falcon is flying to Yavin there seems to be a jumpy/missing frame.

I've been a long time lurker and follower, and have finally signed up after all the recent news concerning further changes to the OT.

Congratulations to Harmy on finishing up your project! I am downloading your work right now and cannot wait to view them!

Hello Harmy - just wanted to add that for years I've gone without watching my favorite movies like I had gone through some sort of bitter divorce with an ex-wife. It was just too painful to watch those "fun bonus discs" in all their non-anamorphic glory on my HD widescreen TV.  But seeing your versions have helped me to fall back in love with Star Wars all over again.  You've restored my sanity after nearly being driven crazy with anger towards the man responsible for my love of filmmaking in the first place!

I would like to add some suggestions for v1.2:

•    Someone else mentioned the Falcon fleeing the Death Star. I assume this is referencing the blue halo effect I saw behind the Falcon.

•    The shot of Luke before he boards his X-Wing (which takes place just seconds before he meets up again with Biggs in the Special Edition) looked strange to me - like it was in slow motion and grainier than normal.  Was wondering if there was a way to make this brief moment look more natural?

•    I also noticed the final shot of the movie looks as if it's standard definition.  (I assume this is because the original credits are presented intact.)  Is there any way to switch to the original credits after we see "Directed by George Lucas"?  I just hate that such an iconic moment in the movie takes you out of the movie due to such a jarring difference in picture quality.

Thanks!

the Falcon fleeing the Death Star has a bunch of little grey like boxes at the bottom of the screen.  I don't know what else to call it.

I think that halo has always been there.

Is there a guide that says how to properly burn these files to a dual layer dvd so I can play it on my PS3? I went out and bought some verbatim dual layer dvds, but they were expensive and I only bought 5, so I want to make sure I don't screw it up. Thanks :)

@homn Use Imgburn. It will show you the best place to put your layer break.

@Harmy Thank you for these despecialized editions and all the work you put into them. I can now watch these movies they way I remember them on my HDTV screen.

Ah thanks I figured it out. Imgburn is quite userfriendly.

Harmy you have the honor of being the creator of my very first dvd burn!! haha and it was well worth it.

Im watching it on my HD, great quality. The hype was true. I love you.

Could someone please help me, a lowly newbie, out? I read through this thread up and down but can't seem to find the answer.

I just downloaded all 4 .rar parts from ulozto and I'm not sure how I'm suppose to watch this? I've extracted each part but they do not play... What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance :)

@ffffff: I only have one vintage Darth Vader figure, all the others are new. My collection is pretty small but I have a nice little setup. I'll post a picture of it when I add the new stuff :-)

@Mondess122:

1. The covers are for the 14mm cases.

2. Actually I do plan to redo Empire (probably not using the Blu-Ray though) when I can get my hands on a cleaned up version of Puggo Strickes Back. But that probably won't be done in the near future. It may be months before ESB DeEd v2.0 is done.

@MBaden: I wouldn't mind you posting pics of your collection but there is a whole thread for it, so that may be better:

Little Men, Little Wars - Share Your Star Wars Collection

@ Murry Sparkles: Yeah, I know about the Han one, it should be fixed. The other is I think like that in the original.

@rennervision:

That shot of Luke had to be used from GOUT, so I'm affraid that's the best I can do with it.

That last shot isn't SD, I recreated the wipe to the GOUT credits from the HD shot.

@ UOTForever: You need to have them all in one folder and unrar the first one, that way it should automatically unrar the whole thing and you end up with an ISO file. Then you use IMGBURN to burn to a DVD-DL.
