I've successfully convinced one friend to cancel their Blu-Ray and pick up the 2006 DVDs instead.  Better than nothing (he wants to own them in physical form)!

And it's letterboxed!

God, why did GL have to change these films a third time? This is downright abuse of everything copyright laws were meant to do. And GL will win because he has technically broken no law (legally, not ethically), since the works of art are his. With the advent of these 2011 changes, he truly is a monster

Or...you know you could just press the zoom/aspect button on your remote. =P

I've got to say that the unfreezing effect looks fake as hell in pictures and even worse in motion in 1080p. It's like they gave a school child a new plugin for after effects and said, "here, play with this. See what you can do". I'm really glad i never deleted my HDTV versions of these films, like i nearly did.

It certainly looks modern. I kind of like it, though aren't you planning on redoing this anyway?

The "I feel raped" thing is cliched and should be retired, and really just serves the apologists in making us look like kooks.  But I have to say, I feel like a battered wife.  One of those ones that keeps going back to her abusive husband.

My planned way of protest was to ignore the shiny new extras in the Complete Box and just buy the OT box.  I have no desire to ever watch the PT again and I just can't buy them.  I couldn't live with myself if I did.  I was hoping if enough people bought the OT-only box and no one bought the PT-only box, maybe that man would get the hint.

Now I don't know what to do.  I don't think there's any way to get through to George with all those yes-men surrounding him.

Her most recent tweets are retweets of people saying how awesome her dad is and/or how dumb we are for not getting it's his movie. Sigh...

The Carbonite thaw did need a redux in my opinion.

Not only is Han in the wrong shirt while he is frozen, Harrison's face never lined up well with the model and the effect just looked wrong.

I haven't seen this version in motion so I can't pass judgement on it but I look forward to discussing other possibilities over on the Wishlist thread.

At the very least this is a mock-up of a possibility.

Maybe next time George and co should register here for tips and suggestions?

It's a sad day when we prefer the 2004's over something.

It looks like someone took a Flash animation and set it over the film.

Well, if people are really hassling her they should knock it the fuck off. How can that possibly help us.

Well they're not hassling her, they're hassling him. And I think just in GENERAL reported, not if you're tweeting her.

You see, that's the thing about these new additions. They look like mock-ups. They look like someone took a short while to do because they didn't need to be good. As if they were just an idea. They are not something you would expect from a company that are supposed to be one of the best special effects houses in the world.

If the frames on the right are the only frames in the 2011 version, they fixed the Han shooting twice that was introduced into the 2004 version, but they are identical.

They're cheap, that's why. LFL is not a film company anymore, it's a corrupt multinational corporation that puts profit ahead of everything else. It's ironic because GL is a liberal who wrote SW as a rebellion against the "system."

I do have a guess as to why they did the "NO".  Granted, it'd be a very stupid reason, but I wouldn't put it past them to care about something so trivial and not saber colors.

It's a tradition to have a dramatic "NOOO" in every Star Wars film:

TPM: Obi-Wan after Qui-Gon is stabbed.

AOTC: Obi-Wan upon Anakin's charging at Dooku.

ROTS: Anakin before attacking Mace/Vader after waking up.

SW: Luke after Obi-Wan is killed

ESB: Luke after learning the truth.

ROTJ: Some argue Luke screams "NO" after Vader threatens to turn Leia, but "officially" he says "NEVER".  So as far as I can recall, there was never a "NO" in Jedi... until now.

Granted, I AM NOT SAYING THIS MAKES THE NEW "NO" REASONABLE BY ANY MEANS.  It still sucks like hell.  I just wanted to point out their possible motivation.

Wow, talk about "gilding the lilly".....does R2 have to have smoke shooting out of EVERY orifice?

I wonder how many of these are actually "3D" effects, that we're now just seeing in 2D....

As someone pointed out earlier, if George was trying to make a profit out of these changes, he would put more marketing into it. Unless the leak was INTENTIONAL and they did this to stir up interest...

Also, Mielr, that's a very astute point. Those probably are effects intended for the 3D release. That explains the doodads, at least.

edit: more Katie Lucas drama. ""There is a special place in Hell for haters next to the one for child molesters and people who talk obnoxiously in the theatre"

At this point, the bonus discs are the only reason to get this set at all.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Seriously? And we're the overzealous ones?

Still, sounds like Hell is full of people with good taste in film. Given how much effort Lucas has put into burying them, we'll probably find the theatrical cuts down there too. Sounds like a party.

So...what did I miss....

Oh.

...

I'm not sure why people are shocked, given what happened in the SE previously.  Han stepping on Jabba's tail.  Gringo shooting first.  The worst musical act ever.  Hayden's creepy uncle stalker head on Shaw's body.   Gungans yelling "Wesa free!"

Not to mention the screwed up deliberate decisions regarding color and sound.

A bunch of new, terrible changes should have been expected.  And make no mistake, they are indeed terrible.  But they shouldn't be surprising.

I'm still on the fence regarding purchase, but nothing I've heard in the last few days has made a difference to me regarding that decision.
