Mielr, I did indeed see the skin tone thing a few days ago and posted about it a few pages back. In my opinion, it could be a result of GOUT smearing or color offset, which is only visible when upscaled to the Project Blu's resolution.

The newsgroups I may do, not 100% sure yet, I still read here that some just do not get it, or will not try it, or just don't understand how to use it, hell or maybe all the above, so learn it, this may be the way I go, I am leaning more towards this method.

DISCLAIMER: I only just discovered this thread. And I've read a few pages in fascination.

What brought me was the posting of the V3 DVDs on a.b.sw.

I understand that the quote above concerns only the Blu-ray discs, but a few minutes ago was the first time I'd ever heard about the DVDs either. So I ask only in curiosity...

dark_jedi, is it you who's posting the DVD versions? Not that it matters, I suppose, but I want to tell you that I'll be downloading them. Wasn't at all sure (there are a LOT of Star Wars edits and preservations!) but the opinions here make it seem more than justified.

Thank you for your good work -- some of which I've seen before, and more of which I'll soon be downloading.

(And I will say these about the newsgroups: they offer wide propagation and (with a higher-level provider) a sense of permanence. Both good things.)

NO it is not, and I have NO idea who is, and with a dumb post name like "Hey it's me" I have no way of telling, but I thought people gave each other the heads up when re posting others work in other areas, not that I mind at all, but a courtesy PM or something is usually pretty nice, I also see someone has now compressed the hell out of the FULL DVD's and is posting them at Spleen, again no PM or anything, and my God those have to look like shit! that is way to much to compress LOL.

I guess I am just going to have to get over how much different this Community is now, compared to the way it used to be, it is way different now, and I will stop my thoughts on this right there.

So NO, it is not me on the newsgroups, and it is not me at Spleen, and I guess courtesy PM's are now out of the question, OH well.

d_j, I know you're working on another project but I'm just wondering if you had a chance to compare the V3 & Blu editions of ESB to see if you see that skin-tone bleeding thing I noticed in the medical frigate scene on the Blu edition.

Has anyone else had a chance to look for it?

Just curious.

NO, I have not compared to the V3, I do not have any of those files on my PC anymore and frankly I do not care to look at them anymore(the V3 stuff) and I looked at all the sections you gave to me in the PM, and I see none of it but the whitish kind of outline on the right side of the crawl, but I can tell you that I am not revisiting these, you are the only one that can see them, and I have looked several times, who knows maybe it is because I do not want to mess with them anymore, I am to SW burned out.

Hey guys, just thought I would put up my review of Dark Jedi's Blu Ray version of Empire Strikes Back.

When you put the disk in, the menu is of the same style as Star Wars.  Crisp, high resolution, cycling slowly through different movie posters from ESB with all the various options, scene selections, bonus features(!).  The menus look very sharp and crisp, with gentle music playing in the background which is great because I hate when the music on blu ray menus is so in your face and constantly looping every 30 seconds.  Very tastefully done.

The first thing I checked out was the bonus features.  The feature offered on this release is a real treat - the rare 1980 Empire hotline recordings released to hype the movie.  Included is Darth Vader, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, C3P0, and Princess Leia.  When you select each one a still image of the character comes on screen and you hear a 30 second or so speech from the character describing their character and their motivations going into ESB.  I found this to be a lot of fun, and the audio sounded great!

Next, there are a ton of audio options; very impressive, and the sound quality was just fantastic.  To have all these options is amazing.  From the start of the movie I must say the crawl looked less sharp than from Star Wars.  This is due to the source material; I know DJ cleaned this up as much as he could.  When the movie opens in a blue Hoth, there is a good amount of grain, which I prefer to the alternative.  As the movie progresses it is apparent that more grain reduction has taken place, but this is an issue with the source GOUT.

What I would say about picture quality is that it is by far the best I have ever seen ESB's theatrical version.  This is vastly superior to Lucas' GOUT and is a real treat to watch.  As a previous reviewer noted, I did see a few "bad frames", (but not many!) and they are really so minor that they did not bother me in the slightest.  GREAT WORK DARK JEDI, this release has already surpassed my expectations of what I was hoping this set would be!  I really look forward to watching RotJ and will post my review on that in the next few days.

I did see your post, but IIRC you said you didn't have the V3 to compare it to?

It is most definitely NOT on the V3, so I really don't think it originated on the GOUT.

At what bitrate is the audio for the mono mix and 77 stereo on the blu ray, same as the limited LPCM as belbecus created?

I wish there was a true 77 blu ray from Lucas with the mono mix in HD, but the chance of that scenario happening is less than zero.

I am going to be buying an HDTV and Blu ray player for the official discs, so i might as well watch this space for dark jedi's blu set availability.

Mielr please check your PM's, hopefully you can help me out here, and I also asked The Aluminum Falcon to go ahead and give me a list of "bad frames" I have changed my mind and would like to see what I missed, granted NOT all of these can be fixed.

This is what it is, and it is the same, I can only use what we have available to us, The 1977 SW Mono is in Dolby Digital Mono @ 128kbps and LPCM, and the 1977 SW Theatrical 2.0 is in Dolby Digital 2.0 @ 256kbps and LPCM.

LOL, are you sure you are on the right torrents? ALL 3 are very well seeded still, I just now checked, Star Wars has 24 seeders, Empire Strikes Back has 19 seeders, and Return of The Jedi has 20 seeders, that should be more than enough to get all 3 over night.

I just got through watching DJ's Star Wars and ESB BD's. First I must say that these (along with Harmy's) PQ wise are the best these original films have ever looked on home media (That I have seen and I have not seen them all) I do belieive that the picture quality was a tad better on the SW disc. There were a few places on Empire where it looked "soft" and then there was a fair amount of grain noticeable in the sky scenes on hoth. That is not always a bad thing though as I would rather see grain than a wax look.

The real treat with these BD's is the sound options. Now I have not had time to try them all out, only the 5.1 and the isolated score (which is awesome by the way) I hope in the future I will have time to play with them a little more. Another nice feature is the Menu screen, I just love looking at all the old poster art for these flms while the soundtrack is playing. There is a special treat(extra) on the ESB disc that I have not watched yet(I believe Whaleman mentioned it). I hope to fiddle around more with these two before I go on to Jedi.

Dark Jedi you have done a wondeful job and really brought my childhood back to me again and for that I can not thank you enough. These editions will be my standard until someone finally releases the UOT in 1080p. This set will be displayed on my bookshelf with all of my other Blu Rays but these will be the focal point of the collection. So once again, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this wonderful project.

Well not it's on to Jedi and then I will let you know how that one fared on my television. I am sure it's going to be great!

Hi Everyone, I had a chance to watch Return of the Jedi last night; here are my thoughts:

The menu is similar to that of Star Wars and ESB.  Beautifully crisp and clear posters alternate slowly in the background with soft music playing.  I like the second poster showing the alternate title to the movie - Revenge of the Jedi!  This disk does not have any bonus features, but makes up for it with the best quality visuals of any of the movies in this fantastic set!  More on that in a minute.

The audio is perfect as is the case for the rest of the set.  Lots of options for the audio lovers out there.  It sounds wonderful.

Now onto the video.  In my opinion of all of the project blu releases, Return of the Jedi looks the best; and that's saying a lot since the others were really good too!  Unlike a lot of other people, I liked RotJ (not as much as SW or ESB) and think that it is a worthy conclusion to the OT.  It was a pleasure to see what a thorough and fantastic job Dark Jedi has done in restoring this movie to high definition.  This version, as with the rest of project blu, looks the best I have ever seen Return of the Jedi look.

There are also 50 chapter selections, so lots of options for those who like to skip ahead to their favourite parts.

In conclusion, an outstanding job was done by Dark Jedi to put this set together and improve in every way what was previously available to put out the real theatrical cuts that we've all been waiting for.  A project of this importance is nothing less than monumental.  Well done Dark Jedi!  Mission accomplished!

Hello, as one of those people who cant understand the alterations made to these films throughout the years. In fact detrimental, unnecessary and out of place changes to the tone and pacing of the films, im very interested in this amazing project. Could someone point me in the right direction for acquiring these edits? Thanks!

Well today's news of new changes being made to the original trilogy (again) finally pushed me over the edge. I would LOVE to take a look at these V3 edits, since all I have are old comic con bootlegs. Has this torrent spread out anywhere else on the net where I could pick it up, or is Myspleen still the only way to go?

If it's still just Myspleen, I would greatly appreciate an invite (and will seed with my 25mbit/25mbit connection as long as possible)

Looksgreat, can't wait to see them

It's been a long time since I've posted (even forgot my old username...). I'm really interested in the new Dark Jedi BD project and would love a myspleen invite if possible. I have no problem seeding as well. I currently have the original Dark Jedi/Sega discs at home which I've watched numerous times over the years...so yeah...it's about time for an upgrade. To be brutally honest...the part that intrigues me the most about this release are the vast amount of audio options. I can't wait to find out which track I like best.

Like many others, I'm pretty disgusted with the newest set of changes made by GL...and would love an alternate version to watch.

And yes...I'm getting the saga...and it is blasphemy. But I got in on the Barnes and Noble deal and I really want to see the extras. Plus...if my son just has to watch "The Phantom Menace"...at least the PQ will be decent this time.

Thanks again and keep up the fantastic work.

I just read the rumour (hopefully untrue!) on TFN that Lucas has made the following alteration to the soon to be released blu ray of Return of the Jedi:

Darth Vader yells "Noooo" as Luke is being electrocuted with Force Lightning by the Emperor.

If this is true, I think he has crossed the line and actually ruined his movies.  I hated a lot of other changes, but this would be right up there and probably my most hated change.

The reason I post this here is it drives home the importance of this project.  With Dark Jedi's work we will have two versions in high definition: the real theatrical versions that we all love, and the bastardized GL editions, which have some good changes but a whole bunch of bad ones.  It just makes this project all the more important.

Noooo!!!!!! Clearly, Vader was conflicted, but made a choice. His actions showed how he felt in a more powerful way than all the words in the English language put together.

Obi-Wan has just demonstrated a new Jedi power - ventriloquism. Or basically GL trying to get some of the Pixar/Disney stuff in and maybe qualify for the Best Animated Feature category of the Oscars?

And finally, I just blinked... I mean, they can't blink damn it, they're alien creatures and don't need to blink, what is this, the National Geographic?

WTF.

That just about sums it up for me.

Dark_Jedi, you're my only hope...

Dude, there's even a Dug in Jabba's Palace. When everyone else is sleeping, he's apparently still walking around. Go figure...

Lucas screwed up too much this time. I'm glad I'll always have these Blu's and ady's Revisited project to show to my children, because this is an utter mess.

If it weren't for the buttload of extras, I wouldn't have ordered the Saga version either.

There does not seem to be a buttload of extras..how can you have a set like that and not include "From Star Wars to Jedi" or "Empire of Dreams"....and we have all seen most of these deleted scenes years ago....the biggs thing was shown a long long time ago and Luke Building the Light Saber is already out there....
