The Star Wars Unaltered Trilogy

The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (I'm proud to say that I'm growing to hate them, so I may banish them from memory, though the fact that they're the first and only Star Wars DVDs we ever had doesn't help)

Tag & Bink Comics

Indiana Jones Trilogy

EDIT: The Clone Wars Movie and TV show are also part of my canon, simply because it's an interesting window into the expanded galaxy.

That's pretty much it.

Original trilogy

Few books and some games, like Dark Forces. Mostly what I like except Marvel comics, they're fun to read but still I don't consider that those "happened".

I don't have a personal canon.  The canon i consider is in light of the oot.  Not the revision of the 90's not the real prequel canon story original planned and then discarded for cgi masturbation on screen.

The canon is the oot films, the novelizations, original screenplays, comics adapted from the screenplays, and the first 2 radio dramas.

In this canon its From the adventures of Luke Skwalker, though Vader's story is central to the saga it is not Darth Vader's 6 film epic bs.

Star Wars (1977-1995), The Empire Strikes Back (1980-1995), Return of the Jedi (1983-1995), Dark Empire I and II, The Thrawn Trilogy, Attack of the Clones (2002 DVD), Revenge of the Sith (2005 DVD), The Clone Wars (Blu-ray)

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

All of my personal canon centers around, or is connected to, these stories. I put the published NPR script in there because it has some scenes that were trimmed (for time) in the broadcasts.  The 1977 version of Star wars, while not something I watch terribly often, is still the standard bearer of my canon.

My personal canon will be no doubt grow as I read some more of the Zahn novels.  Truthfully, I can hardly put the Thrawn Trilogy down. Fantastic stories and very adult.

An aside;  This board is responsible for that list, by the way.  I was first-film-only 8 years ago and had been for many years before that. The importance this board has played in re-engaging me as a fan and making the Star Wars universe deep and mysterious again can't be over-stated.

This is probably going to sound weird but I imagine all of it (including stuff like Infinities) as being stories of things that happened in the fictional Star Wars universe but some of it is being told by fictional narrators who are drunk, had an axe to grind or weren't there and are telling a story second, third or four thousandth hand.

That way I can balance the silly and inconsistent stuff up against the properties of the story that seem to ring true.

That's how I read the fiction that people call real life too.

- Knights of the Old Republic (great game)

- the Jedi Apprentice series (showcasing Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan pre-TPM)

- L8wrtr's Shadow of the Sith (my definitive Ep. I now)

- L8wrtr's Republic Divided (another great edit)

- STAR WARS EPISODE II.V The Clone Wars

(The Gendy cartoons from back in '04-'05)

- Labrynth of Evil

- Stankpac's ROTS SE

- Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader

- The Force Unleashed

- Adywan's ANH: Revisited

- Adywan's ESB: Theatrical Reconstruction

- Spence's ROTJ Final Cut

that's pretty much what i consider cannon. there's probably more and can be added to. but so far this is my legit list.

For me it goes like this:

Original (unaltered) Trilogy trumps all

Original Radio Series comes next

Heir to the Empire trilogy is the only expanded universe I recognize.

All else isn't canon to me, including the prequels as they are trumped by the Original Trilogy on numerous points of continuity.

There are plenty of Star Wars stories that I enjoy, comics, games, edits and what have you, but nothing else I would consider canon. To me all else is "inspired by" Star Wars as opposed to being truly *part* of the Saga.

Personal canon goes as follows:

Prologue - The Phantom Edit

     - as good as the Phantom Edit was, this movie still doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the series.  Basically, it's the SW version of The Hobbit.

Episode I - Attack of the Phantom

     - I was stunned at how well this edit worked - in this incarnation, AOTC is perilously close to being a very good movie.

Episode II - The Clone Wars vol. 1 & 2

     - easily the best things to result from the prequels, which of course have now been suppressed by Lucas.  For personal canon purposes, chapters 12-16 have been removed from vol. 1, mainly for pacing.  I feel really bad for Genndy Tartakovsky - this was some of his best work, and indicated what the prequel trilogy could have been if George was willing to collaborate like he did in the old days.

Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

     - one of these days, I will make my own personal edit of the movie.  Some of the fan edits have come close, but none have gotten it "just right" like the Phantom did.  ADigitalMan's edit is the closest to my preferences, though I would take the cuts a little further, and hopefully I can find a way to rescue Vader's idiotic NNNNOOOOOO.

Episode IV - Star Wars

     - for "saga" watching, I prefer Harmy's Despecialized edition.  For "George Lucas Cinema" purposes (i.e. if one did a mini-marathon of THX 1138, American Graffiti and Star Wars), I prefer the Puggo Grande.

Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

     - Harmy

Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

     - Harmy once again.

Episodes VII, VIII & IX - The Thrawn Trilogy

That’s impossible, even for a computer.

It never occurred to me before to have a "personal canon", but I guess now you have to if you want to stay interested at all, since no one can be into everything. So: the original version trilogy, the Daley Han Solo, any Marvels that weren't directly contradicted by EMPIRE/JEDI, the Zahn trilogy and DARK EMPIRE. Pretty much anything that pre-dates the sweatshop factory mentality. (I guess the prequels too, what the hell. Only because, since at least 1979 they were on the horizon somewhere and don't exist purely because of board meetings. Sort of.)

I can't say that I have only one canon.  It really depends on my mood.  Let me just list how I look at it, depending on what I'm feeling at the time.

-The OT

OR

-The PT (movies and novels together)

-The OT (sometimes including the novels, but not usually)

OR

-The PT (movies and novels together)

-Clone Wars CGI and traditional animated, favoring CGI.

-The OT

OR

-The OT

-The Thrawn trilogy

-And sometimes I'll include the Jedi Academy Trilogy

-And sometimes I'll even let in Shadows of the Empire

OR

-ANH

-Splinter of the Mind's Eye

OR

-The OT

-OT novelizations

-OT radio dramas

-OT deleted scenes

-The Star Wars Holiday Special.........Juuuuuuuust kidding!

I used to include everything that came out, even if I was not a fan of specific ideas, but as time went on, more and more crap became associated with the EU and I started disregarding most of it.  As I've mentioned elsewhere, I cannot stand Dark Empire and don't like how big an influence it's had on the rest of the EU.  The only thing I like that came from it was the Eclipse, but in the context of the rest of the timeline, I don't even believe such a thing could have been built.  Since I stopped paying attention to most EU, I've never bothered to pick up a novel set during the PT timeframe (other than the PT novels themselves, of course).

Hmmm...  I wonder if I'm the only one who deems Tag & Bink canon?  After all, the comics were pretty meticulous in their recreation of the movies.

The trilogy. The rest either falls into the categories of "what if", "never happened" or "don't care."

Oh, and:

-TPM (L8wrtr edit)
-AOTC (JasonN edit)
-ROTS (JasonN edit)
-SW
-ESB
-ROTJ

That's it, that's the list.

(I enjoy the 2D clone wars episodes but they aren't part of my canon)

Interesting thread. My personal cannon (in chronological order) is:

  1. Star Wars: Episode I- Shadow of the Sith (by L8wtr)
  2. Star Wars: Episode II- The Republic Divided (by L8wtr)
  3. Star Wars: The Clone Wars Animated Series (the 2005/2006 one)
  4. Star Wars: Episode III- Dark Force Rising (by KERR)
  5. Star Wars: Revisited
  6. Star Wars: The Holiday Special (I actually like to believe that this is the story told from Lumpy's Point of View and Imagination and that what really happened was a bit more sinister.)
  7. The Empire Strikes Back: Adywan's Theatrical Reconstruction (This is one of the versions to depict Hoth to be perfectly white).
  8. Star Wars: Episode IV- Return of the Jedi Theatrical Version
  9. Star Wars Battlefront II (especially parts like Wampas attacking Rebels)

Am i the only one who liked the Shadows of the Empire N64 game?

Not that i would add it to me personal canon.

I also did not care much for Dash Rendar ripoff of Han, or his outrider ripoff of the falcon.

But i liked the hoth level.  The train level against ig 88, the battle with fett etc.

I really did not appreciate the added shadows of the empire CGI to star wars in 1997 however like the cgi bike lifted straight from the same files used in the game.

Like the gangster who almost hits the ronto and the jawa goes wooah!, that was utter shit. Like Jar Jar steeping in poop.

I read the book but never played the game. You forgot to mention that the Outrider and the ASP droids also made it into the SE.

I don't care for Dash either. Instead of creating that copy cat they should have opted for utilizing an already existing character, namely Kyle Katarn. He's perfect for that role being a mercenary working for the rebellion and already had a cool sidekick and ship.
