^That's almost the worst part.  It's like he just kept pushing and pushing to see how long it would be before even the more forgiving fans would snap.

If even the gushers are having second thoughts and cancelling their orders, you know something's seriously wrong.

Part of me wonders if this will be the impetus needed to cause them to sit up and taken notice of the fact that things have finally gone too far.  Might some good actually come of it?  The pessimist in me really doesn't think so, but who can tell?

Do we have any evidence that this is happening on a large scale? I know a good many who are cancelling, but I wouldn't call them gushers.

If it does happen, maybe the fans will finally be speaking Lucas's language - cash.

I hope so.  I watching an MKV of ANH now, and I'm actually bored.  The colors are awful, the changes are annoying, and I'm sick of it.  This doesn't feel like the same film.  I'm not sure I'll sit through it.

Well just watched ESB. No changes that i could spot other than the Wampa arm. Same old crappy 2004 colouring with the blown out detail in the bright areas in Cloud city.  They haven't touched one lightsabre by the looks of things although i would have to run it side by side with the 2004 version to confirm it, but i'm 99% sure that this is the case. Same dull cores and pink lightsabres. The audio is the same as 2004. the lightsabre sound is still there as Luke exits the cave, yet the lightsabre is still activated.

So far it seems that there has been a lot of Bullshit coming from Lucasfilm about the work done on these blu-rays

I'm going to leave Jedi until later on. need some sleep now as it's 5:20am here now. This is the film i am most dreading watching after the few changes noted so far.

I watched the ESB 720p CHD release on my netbook during night and have to agree on the general colors. Identical to 2004.

But in some scenes the lightsabers look liked worked on - but in a bad way. All promotional material - think of purple lightsaber from Vader at 'there is no escape' - is exactly like that on those blu rays. Lightsabers felt different than in 2004, but even worse!
On the outside from pink, rose, light purple, dark purple, light red, dark red, light blue, dark blue.
The saber core from white to rose, pink, red, light blue, dark blue
Size: changing from scene to scene between thin and thick.
It's awful to watch, instead of paying attention to the story I was distracted and started to laugh on the PQ.

Edit: removed some link.

Even on HTF the Lucas apologists have been unusually quiet today - maybe now they've gotten a little taste of what it's like to have your favorite films ruined.

I think Lucas really has gone too far this time.

The problem with the leaks causing pre-orders to be cancelled is that now Lucas will claim that people decided they didn't have to buy them because they pirated them. They're going to ignore the why's and just look at the numbers. They just lost a whole bunch of sales, plain and simple. I don't see this boding well for us.

On a personal note, I would probably have purchased it, even with the changes had they bothered to fix anything they promised. Garbage mattes, still there. Lightsabers only fixed in the two shots they showed us they fixed.

And what's with the Dug? Leia waits until the whole palace is asleep, everyone accept for this guy, it's ok that he walks into the room a few seconds before her. It's not like he'd raise the alarm or anything.

EDIT: Sorry, watched the video, its when everyone is asleep before Luke comes.

Lucas has SEEN all the "Nooo" parodies on YTMND. He has SEEN RedLetterMedia's "United States of Nooooo!"
He's doing this DELIBERATELY.

Good things about the Blu-Ray changes:

1. The concept of the bigger Jabba's door shot is nice. It's clearly poorly executed, but I like the idea.

2. The Ewok eyes is much like Jabba's door, but I don't seem to think it looks as bad as you guys do.

3. Han's unfreezing seems a bit better. It's still not that great, but any improvement is nice, because that effect has always been awful.

aaaaaand that's about it.

You know what: except for the "NOOO" and the rocks in front of R2 disappearing, I'd be ok with all of this for a Special Edition. The unfreezing is very nice, the Ewok blinks hopefully are more consistent the the Gorn in "Star Trek Remastered" (we made the Gorn blink! Twice!), heck, even the Dug is ok. It's the fact that this is supposed to be Lucas' ultimate vision, and there's still wires, strings, seams, garbage mattes, color errors, and other things you know he hates but didn't have them fix, that's what gets me.

I can honestly say that after reading all of this I am more excited about Star Wars than I have been in a while...

...excited for how I'm going to edit the mother-loving fudge out of these blurays, that is.

I'm still hanging on to a tiny sliver of hope that this is (at least partially) an elaborate hoax, but only because of the mind-numbing crapitude (in reasoning if not in execution) of the (non-)changes.

I can also see this as a potential result. Which is a massive issue if finally people are voting with their wallets and it's blamed on something entirely different.

But while a lot of people with an online presence are saying they're canceling their pre-orders that's still very much the minority when it comes to the potential market for this set, sales I'm sure will still be strong.

And while for a lot of people this is apparently the straw that broke the camels back is Vader's noooooooooo any worse than Ghost Hayden or Greedo shooting? How can you live with one and not the other.

I think if the "apologists" have got their panties in a twist it's because Lucasfilm supposedly promised fixed lightsabers and other improvements and didn't deliver. They wanted a "revisited" type update but all they got was shitty 2004 transfers on a blu-ray disc.

edit: sweet Curb gif.

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Alright, that's it. I'm no longer a Star Wars fan. I just can't take this abuse any longer.

Have fun, Lucas.

Thanks for this ^ saves me from doing it.

After reading multiple pages, and watching and listening to the leaked clips...I can't call myself a Star Wars fan anymore. Because if I do, people will think I like THESE movies. These same movies that are now beyond terrible, worse than the minor changes made in 1997, and will only get worse with every re-release.

I'm reading "The Secret History of Star Wars" at the moment, and it's confirming what I always knew even from young.  George Lucas was not responsible for any of the original trilogy's success, and deserves no success of any kind.

He's not an artist...he's a man with many psychological issues.  It's clearly evident, he developed some form of psychosis while making them, leading him to always feel like "they were never finished".   No true artist defames their work in this manner. This is like what marauders do to the artefacts or treasured possessions of a civilisation they invade and destroy. And no I'm not being a geeky fanboy here, I'm speaking from the perspective that cinema and film is an artform, and Lucas has no respect for it.  We always knew this, but this is as about as low one can get before adding in CGI scenes of digital Mark Hamill or Harrison Ford in future releases....I'm sure that's coming.

Further more, he's not surrounding himself by "yes men", but pigs like him who'll happily assist in destroying art for their own personal gains. i.e. Those wankers who were in charge of re-doing the audio tracks and put themselves in it so they can claim they're "in" every Star Wars movie.

So sad right now....

Yeah, he's also obsessed with amputation and midgets.
