Oh, that's easy....he CRAWLED back there with his little robot ARMS AND LEGS!!!!

Droids can now use the force because of midichlorians in their oil baths. You see, because Anakin took one of his first major steps towards the dark side in the Lars homestead garage, there were traces of his midichlorians left behind so that even years later, when R2 came along and took an oil bath (presumably right before 3PO's) he became infused with the force and he was able to move the rock aside and then place it back to hide himself from the Sand People. Duh!
