Just check the sample for Jedi. What the hell? Did that Ewok just blink at me! LOL! Blinking Ewoks, I'm curious what other useless additions were inserted into the OT.

The original eyes looked like teddy bear glass eyes (made worse because the masks often didn't fit and you could see the actors behind them).

If the effect works (and I can't check it on this computer) good for them but to fix that and not fix the previous cock ups on the original elements is half arsed.

Pretty much my opinion.

Wait, now we're angry that they are making more changes?   Boy, I can't keep up with what is an acceptable change and what isn't.

Oh, c'mon... that's the old "nobody will ever be satisfied" straw man.  It's really quite easy: in the absence of a decent release of the theatrical version, the only acceptable changes would be those that UNDO the changes that have been made between 1983 and 2006.

My only point was that people seemed quick to jump on the new Wicket eyes, but when Ady does it (or Yoda gets replaced wholesale) it's mostly embraced.

For the record (not that there is one) I'm no Lucas apologist, but I'm not one to brand every move he makes heresy either.

Well, the Yoda thing has been known for at least a year (or more?), so people have had time to process it.   Not to mention the TPM puppet was terrible.

And adywan is making fanedits, not official releases.  I don't think it's fair to compare changes he makes and changes Lucas makes...especially on a site dedicated to the preservation of the movies with zero changes.

Anyone who follows the Revisited threads will know how much criticism Adywan gets, constructive and not so constructive, for even the most minor changes and he is making an unofficial fanedit.

Yet (some) people liked the changes Ady made, except when is George making them, they criticize it no matter what.

I think it's fair to compare the reaction of people to the same kind of changes. What I think it's not fair is Lucas giving us a sub-par special edition. ;-)

I don't think the argument of "preservation of the movies with zero changes" is valid on this thread, since everyone knew from the start we were not getting them on this set. It's just a mute point.

It's not fair?  Okay, I won't do it again.

My point with adywan is that he is doing something for fun, for himself (and by tangent for the community).  He has never said, to my knowledge, that his work is to replace the films he is basing them on.

Lucas is doing something for profit.  And at every step of the way, he has insisted that his latest version is "THE" version.

So no, I don't think it's fair to compare people's reactions to the two works.  Lucas should be held to the higher standard.

I don't think you've used "mute" correctly.

At any rate, you are right that we knew we weren't getting the OOT in this set.  But the revelation that there are even more changes, that no one knew about, is fair game for discussion (and a bit of anger).

Just because we've accepted that Lucas will constantly say *$#@ you to the fans, doesn't mean it shouldn't bother us when he does it again.

...

Incidentally, I don't really care about these changes one way or another.  They will never be my official version, so Lucas can do whatever the hell he wants.  But I sympathize with those who are upset.

This discussion came up a couple of months ago, and led to the "preservations" thread being placed higher up in the forum, above the "fan edits" thread:

I realize that now. Sorry, English is not my native language (and I needed to have my kenkraly moment).

My mistake, then. I assumed that since we were going to have the SE's on this set, people were already expecting more changes (for better or worse).

I understand the criticism of Lucas not releasing the OOT (and I support that criticism), but saying to stop tinkering with the special edition is a bit awkward. In my opinion, they are two different issues.

Look at it this way: just because you know someone is going to kick you in the nuts doesn't mean it won't still hurt when your nuts get kicked. ;-)

I did expect more changes/updates to the films......but it does annoy me that there are few fixes.

The only problem I see with the eyes is the whites of his eyes - He doesn't have any in the non-CG bits.

Other than that, this is a pretty good change (if we're changing things, which is a different judgment scale, see).

I like the additional eyes just for the sake of doing something executed well and not aesthetically right, if you know what i mean.

Apart that the ewoks are looking terrible now i guess the ewok movie was George final vision to the care bears

People are criticizing what LFL considers important and what they don't. It ain't science.

Jumpman on blu-ray.comtakes the mantle of person in most denial of straight, hard facts and evidence. Adywan seems to have given up explaining things to people over there. When they see something they don't like they rabble rabble until the facts are drowned out.

Lucas must put subliminal messages into these movies because it seems the people who watch them more are highly inclined to behave irrationally. Just look at the evolution of their argument:

- SW on blu will be great

- It will be new transfers

- Those pictures mean nothing, Lucasfilm said it'll be fixed

- Those promo videos aren't footage from the blu-rays

- (Insert effect) was always meant to be (wrong appearance)

- You guys are haters and just want to ruin this for others

- Those leaked videos are not real

- Even if they are real, it looks fine to me

- Lucas is fitting the movies to his original vision

- I'm going to buy it anyways, it's SW on blu

The easy answer is... more to de-specialize.

Adywan is touching up a duplicate print, George is pissing on the original canvas.

Is the Oola wardrobe malfunction still in? This is extremely important to me. And Jumpman.
