I'm pretty sure that the easter egg is the Holiday Special cartoon.

The mother(aswell as the biggest) of all easter eggs:

A hidef 1080/24p transfer of the 77' edit of Star wars!

Well I can dream on ya know!

I saw Star Wars in 1977. Many, many, many times. For 3 years it was just Star Wars...period. I saw it in good theaters, cheap theaters and drive-ins with those clunky metal speakers you hang on your window. The screen and sound quality never subtracted from the excitement. I can watch the original cut right now, over 30 years later, on some beat up VHS tape and enjoy it. It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.

Yeah, I am too. I'd be very surprised if we see any live-action footage from the Holiday Special, even as an easter egg.

Man, there's no way it's not that.  After Empire, Lucas became fucking married to that character.  Talk about over exposing, over explaining, taking away the mystique, and then running a character into the ground...

He was great as a mysterious bounty hunter in Empire, but he went downhill quickly. Lucas is even willing to dip into the God awful it doesn't exist Holiday Special if it will get him more mileage and more revenue stream out of Boba. Truthfully, I can't stand the character anymore.

Wait a minute, I am confused at what you are saying here, as "Bring my shuttle" was not in the OOT, it was in the SE, so you were watching the '04 DVDs.

No, "bring my shuttle" was the original, in the SEs it was changed to "Alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival."

LOL wow, I stand corrected and this shows just how little I care about SW anymore!  I have seen these movies literally hundreds of times now in my lifetime, and I seriously did not remember that being in the OT at all and only recall the SE version.  Maybe that is because I pretty much gave up soon after '97, and I haven't watched any of the movies all of the way through since...

And it also goes to show, sadly, that Luca$ may be winning the war, as my OT memories are being replaced with the SE ones since that is the last thing I have seen HA HA HA

It's just that the OT is viewed as the past, and only desired by a niche market. The dollar signs are not large enough. It doesn't matter that people would do the work for next to nothing. Most of us on here know more about the presentation of the films than anyone on the Blu production staff. (We should just petition them to let us freelance the work.) Ever since Robert Harris mentioned that he knew the OT existed in decent to good condition materials and could certainly be presented well instead of the LFL claimed "they don't exist/deteriorated/destroyed" there's been no validity to their argument. Now they hide behind the supposed cost instead of the personal vision.

See, this I don't buy. Criterion releases movies handled with great care to an extremely niche market. How do they get around this? they price their Blu Rays at higher prices, usually in the ~$35 range, but sometimes even in the ~$50 range.

If the OT was actually released, it would sell because it has the Star Wars logo on it. 'nuff said. If making a profit was really a concern (which we all know it isn't), then I'm sure the niche market would be willing to shell out ANY amount of money necessary.

The fact of the matter is, George doesn't want these movies out there. And that is a nearly impossible obstacle to get around. GOUT was just a "shut the fuck up" to the fans of the original trilogy. I can't see him following that up in his lifetime.

I always forget that. Criterions have been cheaper with all of the discounts and sales offered in the past few years. They've gotten better about their list prices. No more shelling out $50 for Notorious.

Also, forgot that I was wearing a SW shirt at my local arthouse yesterday and one of the employees mentioned that he had just watched ROTJ the night before. We got to talking about the versions because he had admitted that he had watched the "screwed-up one" and hated how it looked really bad. I asked him what he meant by that and he basically said all the stuff about color saturation, brightness, sharpness etc. that supposedly are the wonderful "creative decisions" that none of the general public ever notices.

People still remember the OT. Instead of just putting stickers on the Blu-rays, we should just stand in stores on the release day and hand out copies of the PG to anyone who wants the real SW they remember. If there was ever a title I wish I could just hand out to people on the street-it's that one.

You mean post Jedi. George confessed in the intervening years he couldn't fathom the cult of Fett. Otherwise why kill him off in such a slapstick fashion? It wasn't until the SW merchandising behemoth was reawakened in the 90's that the Boba Fettish began.

I fear the HS cartoon will be transferred from an old betamax tape found in a thrift store. ;)

The only reason people liked Fett was because of the mystery behind him. How could George not get this?

I contacted the BBFC two weeks ago about the head but and whether it would finally be in the UK version of AOTC. They got back to me and said they were in the process of going through all the films and materials and couldn't tell me, suggesting I keep an eye on their website....

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they're exactly the same discs as the U.S ones. That seems to be more and more common these days with Blu-Ray releases.

Just sayin': I saw Blu-Ray clips of Empire Strikes Back today (the Hoth battle) while selling books and touring around at FanExpo here in Toronto. It looked less dark than the 2004 DVD, and very, very sharp. I was impressed.

Had you seen one of the HD broadcasts, of the last few years, before seeing this preview?  If yes, anything catch your senses, where this blu-ray changes?  Did they have a special booth?

Unfortunately, none, I haven't seen any of the HD broadcasts. What I did, do, however, was pop in the 2006 DVD set into my PS3 after lugging all my goods home from the show, while it was fresh in my head (hardly scientific, I know).

Seeing the DVD again, I thought it looked much darker, but everything else (the mattes, etc.) looked the same, of course.

It's hard to judge much under a full ceiling of harsh fluorescent lighting, but I still think the Blu-Ray looked good.

Hmm, I saw the same footage at Fan Expo and was kinda facepalming. Then again, I don't exactly have a great eye for these things, and there was definitely harsh lighting on the show floor.

Was at my local Best Buy tonight, and they had a standee with the droids promoting the set. They also had little cardboard things you buy to preorder the set, and you get a free film cel! If this is their store exclusive, it's kind of lame.

'Star Wars' Getting "Improvements" For Blu-Ray Release

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUZhz2Rs-Zg

"The unnecessary edge enhancement and color timing issues which made some of the lightsabers on displaying the 2004 releases looked washed out. And those have been corrected."

Every single report sounds like Lucasfilm only fixed the effects that the color timing had on the lightsabers, not the color timing itsself.

How could they be able to fix it without going back to the raw digital capture of the negatives? And that would mean re-cleaning from John Lowry. "It's a trap!"

He couldn't get that about Darth so why would he get it about Fett?

Exactly my thoughts, the contrast and color issues on the DVD's were far more extensive than just a few lightsaber shots.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.
