Kind of funny that they used the Star Wars font and logo shape. With the real-time uber-connectivity of today, I don't think you could do that. Instead of people being fooled as they approached a location shoot - they'd be using it as the banner art for their nerd blog.
Death Valley, I imagine, has seen it's share of death over they years but I imagine Buttercup Valley was named by an Englishman.

Exactly, there's some good quote by Charles Lippincott or Alan Ladd saying to the effect that the studio had problems with the title because in their surveys people thought the movie was going to be fights between famous people like Elizabeth Taylor.
Elizabeth Taylor infamously fought with herself through the years and sometimes won.

Can't speak for the franchise, but Star Wars was hyped long before it was released. I remember the buzz starting many months in advance if not longer, and being really excited when it was about to come out.

According to cartoonist Phil Foglio, they were selling shares in "The Star Wars Corporation" at the con. Foglio has regretted not buying some shares ever since!

Interesting. I don't remember pre-hype like that. I was only 14 in 1976 and not really a convention goer just yet. That would be a year or so later.

That original logo was very cool looking. Many years ago when I was in IT and had an office not open to the general populace of the company, I made a full-size one-sheet using a high-res version of an early McQuarrie idea. It had that logo.
