Yeah...I thought this was well known.  It's a 9 disc set, the movies on the first 6 discs and the bonus features on the last three.  The OT set and the PT set are each just the 3 discs.  The only bonus features for those are the two commentaries on each movie.

In defense of Lucasfilm, that's not dumb, that's a smart sales strategy.  And other franchise releases (both DVD and Blu) have done something similar.  It sucks, but it's business.

Is it?  You're assuming at least half as many people will buy the whole set to get these bonus discs than people that would buy the OT set to get the bonus disc.

I won't be buying anything... but it would be tempting to get the OT if the bonus disc was included.  Maybe your numbers work out- maybe there are 2-3 people now buying the full set for every person like me not buying anything.  Maybe not.

If it wasn't a smart sales strategy, why would they do it?  They have to have research showing it works.

Everyone save the "Lucas just trying to screw us" comments, btw.

As much as I value your opinion, this is the point where I suppose I should point out that this would be piracy, and therefore against the rules of the forum.

But there's so much bullshit surrounding this whole release event that to be quite honest I'm completely "meh" about the whole thing.

So I guess it's ok to pirate this thing then.

What the hell?

Moth3r's not saying it's okay.  Just saying that he's not going to throw the book at hen.

I get accused of complaining about potential piracy posts too often, and my first instinct was to say something.  But I thought, "hey, I'll let this one pass," and then Moth3r comes right in and says "whatever."

Whatever.

In regards to that, I think it's very indicative of the blinding arrogance that Lucasfilm has that their stated reason for breaking them into trilogy boxsets is not because *gasp* someone might only be a fan of one trilogy instead of the whole thing but because they might not want the bonus features.

But that said, I honestly believe that is at least part of the reason that the bonus features are kept off the single trilogy sets:  to entice fans to buy the whole thing and soothe George's ego at the same time.  Frink is right.  It is a good business decision.  Aside from a lot of us, Star Wars fans aren't very discerning customers to begin with.  They'll buy anything.  And for those that are a little more discerning, what better incentive to blow money on a prequel trilogy you don't care about than with the lure of deleted scenes you've been waiting almost 30 years for?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Would it help if I said it was for educational purposes only?

Didn't mean to stir anything up here.

wut?

They have to have research showing it works.

Maybe it's a deliberate creative decision?

Everyone save the "Lucas just trying to screw us" comments, btw.

Why?  As Gaffer says, it's likely more motivated by Ego than sales anyways.

They've nearly got me now. Of course, the changes to TPM are enticing as well. As much as I complain about the changes, I feel like I have to own all the versions now...

Unfortunately the one aspect of Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray I'm not allowed to talk specifics about are those deleted scenes. What I can tell you is that we watched almost every one of them from Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, as well as a few more from The Phantom Menace a little later in the day.

Whatever preconceived notion you had about the deleted scenes, flush it. There is far, far more footage scattered across the scenes than I knew existed, especially for A New Hope. We'll not only be treated to deleted scenes, but alternate angles and takes from some key sequences. It's a Star Wars historical gold mine.

Bunch of worthy info in the post. Has a video of the 'Fallen At-At' 360, and Dennis Muren answering questions.

If the dvd.starwars.com features resurfaced, that would be really cool.

What a coincidence, I become an ungrateful bitch when my better half has had a bottle of red too.

I don't even know why they call it red when it's more burgundy?

Meanwhile Admiral Ackbar is more purple than red.

See they used an alternative take for these scenes in the blu-ray version, and The Ack had a little hooch between takes and we all know that Calamari turn burgundy when drunk... and well.  That's the rest of the story.

No No No..Mr Wings!!!!

She's an ungratful bitch because, even tho we've both had shit days at work, I still made dinner (nice salmon with salad, coooscooos, pasta and a few lovely boiled potatoes- her choice, not mine) only for her to turn her nose up and say in a shitty tone "I never asked you to cook" just cos she doesn't like the food..

Fuck her...Bring on Ep 3!!!

Has anyone noticed that they seem to have changed Nien Numb's voice slightly in the death star footage? Or is it just my sound system crapping out?

http://youtu.be/4fq4CH3I7SU

It's might just be the compression that youtube does on their videos and sound. Also their was some clipping on the audio of the U.S. version of the death star 2 feature and the international one their is no clipping in the audio at all.

Sounds very different on my system.

I don't know if it was just my computer, but all the heavy sounds seemed to pop painfully.  But, yeah, it sounds like Nien Nunb's voice had some sort of echo filter applied to it.  :-/

Could be a result of the egomaniacal Matthew Wood forcing as much of his personal tinkering as possible onto the movies.

Honestly, to hell with this garbage. Unless you're an idiot apologist, I can't fathom why any SW fan would want to buy these discs. Stick with bootlegs and torrents of the original movies and forget about wanting the crispest, cleanest picture imaginable. You enjoyed it on VHS on a small tv for years and years, after all.
