Is WMV ok for a digital copy? And what size do people go with for Digital Copies?

I've never downloaded a fan edit in WMV format, but I suppose it could be done. Since you're rendering an MP4, I think that would probably be better to distribute as PC and Mac users can play them. Also, MP4s and AVIs tend to be the standard for digital copies, which are usually around 600MB (if you really want to compress it) to a max of about 2GB.

As it renders, I'm going to try and split Disc One into parts.

Disc One? Is the edit more than one disc? WinRAR or 7zip are both easy ways to split the disc into easy-to-upload parts by the way.

Disc 2 is just special features (including the InfoDroid and TJ's unused Prologue, the trailer for Reborn and the trailer for Renascent). How would I split it using WinRar?

After WinRar is installed you would right click on the Disc 1 folder and click add to archive. After that you can split it into several WinRar archives by putting the amount of bytes you want to divide by in the "split to volumes" box (200MB=209715200 bytes). There's a guide to do this here.

So I'm currently uploading the Digital Copy to RS - single MP4, about 1.4GB. The DVDs will be soon to follow on MU. Once the DVDs are downloaded, please go by the pay it forward method. Send eachother DVDs, Torrent them, re-upload them, etc. Also, please be sure to only distribute it to people who own Star Wars Episodes I-IV. If you download it without owning those other films, the general law (at least where I live) is that you have 24 hours, from when your download is complete, to delete the file(s).

Count me in as very interested in this, Asteroid Man. I'm excited to finally see this. Can you please send me the links for both MP4 and DVD once each is uploaded?

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by re-upload them? Do you mean we should do that if the ones you uploaded go down?

Also, as far as manually paying it forward, I'll definitely pass this on to some friends and relatives, who would be interested.

I'd also like to receive links to the DVD. I'll pass it along every Star Wars nut I know, and every general film lover too.

I'm with Falcon on this. Are you saying we should reupload on different sharing servers and distribute it ourselves too?

Thank you, that means a lot! I'm excited to have people finally watch this! The MP4 is very compressed, so if you skip through the video, you'll either need a powerful machine or have to wait for the video to re-sample... or you can just watch it from beginning to end. And sure thing.

By re-uploading I mean exactly what you stated - in case they go down.

Also, when one asks for the links, and you have them, please pass it on as well - or if someone asks you for a physical DISC, please send them one if they live near you. I think I'll be sending Ripplin a set with covers and all. I know I had been asked to send a couple out to people with a signature (no idea why someone would want my signature...) but all I ask is for the price of shipping and printing - I can't afford to just toss everyone discs. :P

And that sounds wonderful! I hope you enjoy it!

Nice covers! Neat and clean. When I download these, I'll be sure to keep the original RAR files so if only one goes down a whole new upload isn't necessary.

Worked fine for me.  You just have to wait for the timer to count down so the download link appears.

I might suggest an MKV...  They are incredibly vivid HD files that fully support surround sound. The next choice would be MP4. Both are very good HD files to use for videophiles like ourselves. In my opinion, size isn't as important as quality; I'd much rather spend two days downloading something than two hours if it will look better.

WMV is kind of the brat of the pack, and I wouldn't typically let it wipe my unborn child's bum...  but I am just not too keen on it. And AVI's are not the once splendid glory they once were...

Looks like I'm a bit late in my suggestion reply, but if you want to go back for the MKV, I would give it high marks on filmmaker's preference. I use Avidemux and Handbrake (both of which are freeware) to render them.

RapidShare froze at 31% upload... I just woke up to see this, and last night it had frozen at 14%, before I tried a second time. This is incredibly irritating. Any suggestions?

Megaupload?

I haven't used RS in a long time...no problems with MU recently.

Either that, or keep trying on RS.

Hope you get this uploaded, A-man. Interested in seeing this if you feel like passing me your links. I'll repay the favor when mine goes up. =)

Perhaps you are clicking on an advertisement?

I noticed one that appears with a large "download" button which is really a redirect to a video game site.  The actual link for downloading the file doesn't appear until the countdown clock gets to zero.

MegaUpload blows RapidShare out of the water... I used to be RS only; but the same thing was happening to me. MegaUpload not only serves better, but speeds through downloads and uploads like nobody's business. MU is the way to go, bro.

Actually, Rapidshare recently has been going extreme high speeds for me. I can download things at 1.5 MB/S and no waiting period with JDownloader. Dual-layer DVDs only take me about an hour. Still, use whatever is more convenient to use Asteroid-Man; Megaupload still goes pretty fast for me.

By the way, photocactivist, I liked your Ewokless ROTJ. Ever plan a full DVD?

Ok, I'm splitting the file into RAR parts to upload to MU. Just so you guys know, I'm keeping it as an MP4 because I couldn't get the MKV to come out at good quality (I sampled it). Once it's uploaded, if anyone knows how to fix how you can't skip forward please post it, or fix the file and re-upload. I really only want this edit scene via DVD anyways, I just thought I could create a digital copy for the hell of it.
