But obviously they're "just friends."

Friends care for each other. Nothing wrong with that simple line.

I hope this is "SARCASM" I don't understand.

"Owen Lars. This is my girlfriend, Beru."

What makes it the worst is that it wasn't followed by Anakin saying this:

"You call that a girlfriend!?"

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Jarring modern parlance in a fantasy realm is always a problem.

Padme calling children, "kids" doesn't work where as Han calling Luke, "Kid" does.

Cliegg Lars referring to his wife as his "partner" doesn't work either.

This is meant to be a long time ago in a galaxy, far, far away not the a cheap daytime soap or a bit of office gossip.

I thought young Beru was hot. I'd perform the "binary sunset" on her any day!

The German version is even worse. As Cliegg tells them, that he can't ride anymore, because of his leg, or better, it's absence, he says (in German) he "couldn't ride a horse".
I couldn't help it but shouting through the theatre "What's a horse???"

I gotta say that scene is just about the only time I got the impression those characters had the slightest bit of interest in eachother.

But I don't want my protagonist to be fascist!

Please elaborate on what the "binary sunset" is and what it entails, and do not - do NOT - skimp on the juicy details please.

Yeah, that's pretty awful.

"Anakin!" (spoken by Padme as she hugs him after the fight with Dooku).

Bear with me here, and correct me if I'm wrong.  The Jedi aren't supposed to get attached.  Padme runs up and hugs Anakin (and ignores Obi-Wan) right in front of both Obi-Wan and fracking Yoda!  And yet they aren't suspicious.

Grrrrr....

Of course, this is from the novels which nobody on this site considers worthwhile, but in Ep. II Obi-Wan actually strongly suspects and voices his concerns to Mace Windu when Anakin is assigned to protect Padme.  Mace tells him it's a part of his growth and testing to keep his emotions in check.  In the novel for Ep. III, Obi-Wan states that he knew all along that they were involved, and not just when he states, "Anakin is the father, isn't he?"  But what's that worth to you?

As for staying on topic..."Get 'im, Dad!  Get 'im!"

It still doesn't make it at all better.

Jedi thought PT 101: "When you have a Senator your organization is hired to protect from assassination. Simply put a Jedi in training on the case. To test if they'll break the no romantic relationship rule! Two for one deal! Yes a horny Jedi teen we've trained to use mind control and, an attractive young diplomat alone together!!!"
