Yes, and there are also other guys insisting how awesome Qui-Gon Jinn was and that makes the movie as good as ROTJ.

It's just their opinion. How is that related to what I said?

Because my point was that this community isn't made of prequel haters, and the people I mentioned are the example that prove it?

And the first page of this sub-forum shows they are largely present here.

Unfortunately some members can't help it

Well it's just their opinion, isn't it? So quit complaining.

It may be their opinion that they are bad movies, but saying other people posts are excuses just because they think the PT are bad movies is fallacious.

So quit complaining.

What?

It depends on the point they're making, and some arguments in favor of the prequels can, indeed, be called excuses.

I think the one about "explained in other media" is a good example of that.

I think if anything, this list http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Okay-who-actually-HATES-the-Prequels/topic/13111/ shows that 2/4 is right and that there are fewer "rabid haters" here than "don't like it, but don't hate it" types.

Or at least in equal number.  True- there aren't a lot of gushers here, yourself excluded... but the site is called "OriginalTrilogy" and seems to not attact people who are PT or "saga" minded.

I googled "prequeltrilogy.com" just now and got zero suitable hits.  I don't get it - you can't get the theatrical version of the prequels, right?  Why isn't everyone up in arms over that?

I mean, other than the fact that the prequels suck.

I never said haters were the majority.

Or at least in equal number.  True- there aren't a lot of gushers here, yourself excluded... but the site is called "OriginalTrilogy" and seems to not attact people who are PT or "saga" minded.

Well, I think this site is focused on the restoration of the OOT, not on disliking the PT. The fact that I (and certainly others) like or don't mind the PT and the SE, doesn't mean we don't want the OOT to be properly restored and released.

Author
Time

Well, of course not.  No one's saying that.  But there does tend to be a correlation between the older fans or the proponents of those wanting the OT restored and people who don't like the PT.  It's just much more likely that people who want the original trilogy preserved are the same types of people who don't buy into the "saga" or the "prequels," or at least much more so than the other way around.  Add to that the fact that this is one of the few Star Wars places where people are actually allowed to criticize the prequels, and, yeah, you end up with, well, for lack of a better term, a basher's sanctuary.  But that doesn't mean that it's the purpose of the site or a requirement.  It's just the way it works out.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

That may be. But certain behaviours are as strange (and/or extreme) as the ones who get criticized around here. That's why I asked:

Alexrd said: Why would someone who hates the prequels, go to TF.N, specifically to the PT forum, and see how some users comment about those films?

skyjedi will probably never answer this, but this kind of attitude just seems a bit hipocritical to me.

YOU LEAVE THE HIPPOS OUT OF THIS!  WHAT DID THEY EVER DO TO YOU?

To answer your question of why someone would go to TF.N in that case - some people just like to bitch.  Or argue.  Or depress themselves.

This is what OT.COM users are missing out on.

It's a George's 'special' celebration for OUT fans.

Are you saying that we, by turing 30 (or 20, if you're more bookish) have outlived our usefulness (youthfulness?) to Uncle George and he's having us... done in?

It makes me remember what someone said (coincidentally on TF.N):

Pendulous Dewlap said: I've seen TPM perhaps 40 times, and I have to say, it's one of the worst films ever made.

I guess this kind of people are everywhere.

Actually, it turns out that some of my confusion is based on the fact that you are not Darth Bizarro.  (You're not, right?)  Since you replied to 2/4's comment to him.

I don't see anything hypocritical about that.
Reading through stupid opinions (or opinions differing from one's own) is a popular pastime of many.

George sends photographic evidence that it is the most rare OUT character and that nobody else has cosplayed it before (he taints the photos with MK Ulitmate Hypnodust resistance is futile).

I don't know because I never visit TFN.  I agree that there are some extreme people here, but I also think it's just a few.  That's true for any open forum.

I have it on DVD and would consider myself a huge fan - ever since I first sat in the theater, weekly, back in 1976.  Not unlike the way I did with Star Wars soon after.

Yeah, that's right - I'm coming out...I am a Logan's Run nerd and I've probably seen it as many times as Star Wars.

Several in this thread have pretty much nailed what's so bothersome about the prequels.

Lucas filled the original films with cgi so that when he made the prequels they would visually blend better with the OT, instead of leaving the originals alone and trying his best to make the prequels fit seamlessly with the OT. Moreover, it's a direct result of that philosophy that the OOT is now buried.

That said, I would love to see the theatrical prequels nicely preserved. Hell, I would think the new 2K scan of TPM could be the basis for such a preservation. Yeah, it's not a particularly good movie, but it was the second highest grossing movie of the 90's (here in the States, anyways). Likewise, the '97 SE of Star Wars should be preserved if for no other reason than its box office significance (still the highest grossing movie to open in January here in the States, AFAIK).

@Alexrd:

Not sure how long you have posted at TFN, but they pretty much ran every OOT fan off the site after Episode III.  They had a whole forum called 'The Bashers Sanctuary' where fans could talk about their problems with the PT and that way we would stay out of the PT threads so it wouldn't get too heated.  They closed that in 2006 during the release of the OOT DVD's, and thats when all hell broke loose.

I am one of them as I got permabanned there for arguing with many PT fans during the 06 OOT Non-Anamorphic Release.

What pissed me off is many them were laughing that Lucas was putting out a shitty release of the OOT after it was announced that wasn't restored, and they would say to me, "You are getting what you deserve!" The mods would do nothing as the main rule at TFN is no baiting or no talk about fans or fanbases (meaning generalizing).

So I went back at them, and it got heated, and I was permabanned there, yet the PT fans who argued with me were still posting.  After that there was a huge effort to rid of any OOT fan, as most of us left there for OT.com or Outerrimsieges.com.

The sad thing is at one time it was a pretty good site as it had a good combo of PT fans and OOT fans, and there was alot of good threads.  Then they tilted to the PT fans and ran all the OOT fans off, and the site is an utter joke these days.
