Without the Spirit or the Shadow, Batman the comic probably would not exist, and Bob Kane gets all the credit for it when he was not the only creative hand in it.

Its like Stan Lee taking all the credit for Marvel, and Jack Kirby is forgotten.

Xhonzi i think the public opinion on comics goes back to the creation of the comics code and the censoreship which shut down EC comics because they would not do censored books.

Also they claimed the comics had a bad influence on children and it was Communists influencing kids, commie propaganda.

Politicians especially the Religious right violated the sovereign rights of Americans freedom of speech, with this censorship its just like pre code Hollywood before they came in and cleaned up all the sex and nudity to appease hard right Christians.

Too bad in time even liberals got in on censorship like AL Gore's Ex wife.

I remember at my old university newspaper, a black comic author wrote a comic that had the 'N' word in it.  I have never see such an outrage!  There were demands for resignations and sensitivity training.  Never mind how many statements about Christians, Israelis (because you can be anti-Israel and yet not antisemitic somehow), your mother sleeping with the mailman, etc. were stated in the paper.  Liberals are interestingly selective in what they censor: if it's vulgar, it's okay; if it's offensive towards certain minorities (and not all minorities, mind you, only special cases), then off with their heads!

WARNING: I am about to make a sweeping generalization.

Liberals tend to want to censor things that they see as inspiring hatred, whereas conservatives tend to want to censor things that are "offensive". I can handle being offended, but hate leads to suffering...

There is also a difference between being liberal and being far-left and between being conservative and being far-right.
