For me, the fan edits prove how bad the prequels are. In my opinion, none of the ones I've seen (and I've seen several) actually make any of the movies good. They might make them suck less, but that also makes them more boring. Strip away all the worst moments and the basic movies you're left with are just bland-city. If I'm going to watch a prequel, I'd just as soon see Jar Jar bouncing all over the place - at least I can shake my head, i.e., at least it engages me on some level.
