1992 VHS release of the OT

I recently purchased this for $3 at a used book store. It is in surprisingly good shape. What stands out are the very natural flesh tones compared to all the DVD releases. The yellow sand on Tatooine is also nice.

Is this the release where Lucas says i hope your children and your children's children enjoy watching the films as much as i had making them in letters on the box.

And now he claims these films no longer exist, lol.

They are rough cuts if you want them they are on vhs.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

This is actually a very underrated box set. If I recall correctly, it's the non-DVNR'ed master used for the JSC and SWE, so it has none of that GOUT smearing. It is very colorful and quite different than what we are used to.

The colors would be a lot nicer if they weren't so washed out, though. You have to turn the brighness way down on the first movie, especially, or else all of the black level errors pop out like a sore thumb.

Nope, not the same master as the JSC.

It is the same master as the "no shrinking ratio" SWE, though.

Lucas is such an asshole.

Sorry but isn't the JSC and the SWE from the same master, at least for ESB and ROTJ, definitely granted that SW was the newer "no shrinking ratio" master. If this is just about SW then apologies.

The laserdiscs are naturally better, but if you only have VHS then yes I would most certainly recommend it. It's this one right:

Nope, it is the 1992 version (15th Anniversary edition).

Seriously, when you look at how Apocalypse Now and Close Encounters of the Third Kind have their original versions nicely preserved for the foreseeable future of home video technology, it almost makes you nostalgic for 1992....

But I'm young yet nostalgic for my early years when I was introduced to Star Wars through laserdisc... :-)

Can I be nostalgic, Frink?

No.

You have to have been born before 1980.  Sorry.

Maybe so, but I don't make the rules.  I just let you know what they are. ;-)

Are we talking about the same tapes that were in the 'hologram' boxed set?
That came out in '92, I think.

Those are the last SW VHS tapes I have left. I sold all my others.

I saw David Bowie at Madison Square Garden in 1987. Can I be nostalgic?

BTW- how can you be Bowie in a past life if he's still alive? ;-)

I think that's what we're talking about, as these were the ones that came out in 1992, but I'm not sure.

Huh....Weird. How come I was thinking it was the 1990 set?

Well...I have all** the (North American) VHS releases from 1984, onward.
