This movie is absolutely hilarious. As I said, I don't know if it has been discussed yet.
If it has...oh well.
If it hasn't, so much the better.
On blind faith, my parents bought the DVD of this movie. My mom had read reviews of the movie when it first showed up at festivals, and she just had to see it. It didn't come to our area (either in threaters or film festivals), and at that point, she just had to hope that some movie studio would pick it up for DVD distribution.
Well, a couple weeks ago, MGM made her very happy when it was released. We watched it last night.
If you haven't heard of it, here's the basic premise.
Elvis (Bruce Campbell) didn't die. He traded places with an impersonator, and is still living in a retirement home in Texas after a broken hip. At the same home is JFK...a black JFK (Ossie Davis).
Over a several night span, their home is visited by a soulsucking mummy in a ten-gallon hat and leather boots. He is draining the souls of the old people to sustain himself, except that Elvis and JFK figure him out and try to take him down.
It really is a very funny movie. Black JFK explaining why he's black. Elvis trying to use his karate moves on the mummy while also keeping hold of his walker for balance.
