Same here.  I like it about as much as I like the other Indy sequels, which is to say sort of but not really.

I know, people complained about how 'ridiculous' certain scenes were, and how goofy it was.  Did they not see the other movies?

I think people tend to remember what they liked about something over what they didn't, and get an idea in their head that it's something other than what it really is.

Die Hard 4 is another story, but that's because they changed it to PG-13.  I still didn't hate it, but I don't think I'll watch it again.

Cap, you're really grinding my gears here! :l to each his own of course, I'm mostly kidding.

Didn't mean to grind so much. ;) I like a good film discussion.

Tommy. What a bizarre trip. I watched it buzzed so I enjoyed it, but I think if I was sober it'd be a god awful experience.

That's Ken Russell for you. On any of his films you come out feeling like you've had a bad acid trip. I've never decided whether I loved or was confused by Billion Dollar Brain.

I did. Many times. Even with their flaws they can be enjoyed. For these types of films my benchmark is usually: "would this have worked as a 30's serial?" But during Indy IV, I just wanted to get out of the theater as fast as humanly possible. It went quickly from what? to huh? to wait a minute? to please no! to what happened to no CGI? to you're not Brando! to why would you? to you said they weren't related! to make it stop! to even "no no please don't get up"! Normally I dislike a movie. Very few make me feel so beaten. And that is why to me this film is so bad that it never happened.

This is one of those where I don't understand the love for it, but if you like Indy IV, more power to you. Most people think I'm crazy for liking Temple and insisting that Crusade is flawed.

Die Hard 4 is another story, but that's because they changed it to PG-13.  I still didn't hate it, but I don't think I'll watch it again.

I thought the Unrated cut would help some in that regard. It adds a bit more Die Hard-esque violence that is needed but because of the use of alternate takes and dialogue kinda feels like a workprint. Still it works better overall than Vengeance. (aka Lethal Weapon 4 Pt. 1)

I also think Temple of Doom is the best of the sequels, but maybe that's because that's the one I watched most as a kid.

The bugs freaked me out.

I always forgave it because it was the most visually interesting and original of the 3 sequels.

Crusade was a better film, but it played things too safe, and it doesn't show anything new visually. Looks like Raiders dumbed down brother.

I might've cut Skull some slack if it wasn't so damn hard to look at. Even when I'm in schlock kind of mood, I still want to see eye pleasing visuals.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

The Last House of the Left (1972). It's the first movie I've seen where a brutal scene depicting the nasty stabbing death of a rape victim is followed by a comedic scene where two inept cops try to get a ride from a toothless black woman on her chicken-carrying pickup, and hopefully the last one. I give it 5/10.

Badlands

Oh, Malick, you were light years beyond everyone else from the very beginning, weren't you? What a strangely beautiful and disturbingly dispassionate tale of an aimless quest for freedom in the face of death. I loved that Malick never condones or condemns his characters' actions in the film. Much in keeping with his Heideggerian background, things are what they are, people do what they do, and the mere fact of their existence is enough,  without theorizing a psychological "why".

Out of curiosity, why don't you like Vengeance?  It's by far my favorite of the Die Hard sequels.

Hell, as far as I'm concerned, it's the only Die Hard sequel...

It just felt weaker overall-like things were just thrown in to pad the runtime. This I think stems from the Lethal Weapon script being used. Plus the DVD being just about the worst case of EE I've seen makes it one of the titles I don't like to revisit. Maybe I'll like it better on Blu-review screencaps of it look much better than that DVD.

I thought Live Free was better than what a modern sequel to a classic franchise could be, but I only really like Die Harder out of the sequels. I think I like it because it stupid, ridiculous, loud and appeals somehow to my darker side that the fates conspire to put one guy in the middle of all kinds of crap multiple times and he can't escape it. It has my favorite line in the series (Besides "come out to the coast.."): "Oh man, I can't fucking believe this. Another basement, another elevator. How can the same shit happen to the same guy twice?"

No, you're not. The flying saucer was unnecessary, and some of the effects did look awful but the rest was quite enjoyable. The weakest of the Indy movies but still better than the Prequels. Maybe because GL didn't direct it...

Where is all this Indy IV love coming from? I couldn't stand that movie! I seriously barely made it through my first and only viewing of the film. Like Captain Solo described, it was a very stressful viewing experience. What I always liked about the later two Indy movies is that they are just fun, stupid, mindless adventure movies. Should be able to just sit back an enjoy them, but as your siting back trying to enjoy it, Indy IV would occasionally ball up a fist and sock you in the brain. Once you adjusted to this new level of unbelievability or came to terms with a really dumb new bit of the plot and were able to start enjoying once more, it'd do it to you again! The whole movie was like this.

Better than the prequels? I'd rather watch all three in order than ever have to suffer through a viewing of Indy IV again.

I sort of liked Indy IV too, at least large parts of it.  Q2 and Jorge both did fanedits that fixed some of the parts I didn't like, although I'd someday like to take the two and combine them into one edit I like even better.

Hahahaha, I the same thing happened to me a month or so ago in this same thread and someone else said how that hate it when people confuse the two.  If I wasn't so lazy I'd search for it.  But yeah, I LOVE Crossroads, one of my favorites.

3PX, the only part of it that really "socked me" over the head with stupidity was the LeBouf/Monkey scene.  That was really stupid.  Everything else was acceptable within the realm of the previous movies, I think.  But, to each his own, I guess.

I haven't seen the whole movie but *spoiler* is Ralph Macchio supposed to win the guitar battle at the end? Cos Steve Vai kicks his ass in my opinion. Or is that yet another Crossroads movie?

That's the one, but don't worry, it's totally buyable.  And it's fucking awesome to boot: it's the guitar battle of good vs. evil.  Vai is a representative of satan, and sold his soul to be able to play so well, and Macchio is battling him to keep his own soul and win back his friends.  But Vai doesn't actually play himself in the movie.

Typing this out makes me want to watch it again hahaha.

Darkman - Saw this for the first time in 15-16 years. Great flick, cheesy effects, horrid acting, but all in all, just a great fun "realistic" superhero movie. 9 out of 10 melting face-masks.

Blues Brothers 2000 - WHY OH WHY DID THEY HAVE TO DO THIS!!!! What a way to insult one of the greatest cult films of all time. 1 out of 100 wrecked police cars.
