I've read (an English interpretation) of the Koran, lived in an Islamic country, visited other Islamic countries, and opted to write a series of very long research papers on the subject of Islam when I was in university. None of these experiences has ever led me to change my opinions on the religion. It is very backwards and responsible for many of the problems we see in the middle-east. I guess it is nice to hold hands and get all lovey dovey about all religions being good and equal, but that is a bit like putting blinders on and looking the other way. Some things simply shouldn't be ignored, but for the last several years there seems to have been a desperate desire to ignore this one.

just what things have we ignored?

and you are going to complain about me making assumptions about Conservatives?

may I remind you that not all Muslims approve of the likes of Bin Laden?   Not all Muslims are terrorists.

How bout you take a tardis, go back to the 70's and tell Muhammad Ali to his face, that his religion is ridiculous and stupid.

I am not making assumptions, Warb. As I said, I've lived in an Islamic country, I have very close friends who are Muslims, I've read through the whole Koran (through translation, which most Muslims will tell you doesn't count as the real thing), and I've done a lot of research on the topic. My opinions of Islam are based on all these things. I am not assuming anything.

As for the Tardis comment, why do you always do that? If I disagree with Conservatives, you always tell me to take it up with Ferris. On other issues often tell me "You should tell that to someone who..."

I am not a time lord and there is no such thing as a Tardis, or time travel at all. Furthermore, I think pedophilia is horrific and disgusting; if there was a pedophile with the same physique as Muhammad Ali standing before me... well... call me a coward if you like, but I am not going to tell him to his face that what he does is "horrific and disgusting", even though it certainly, beyond any refutation, is.

In the interest of keeping my friends and being polite, I don't tell it to my Muslim friends either. At least not so bluntly. We've all talked and debated enough that they know how I feel, and I know how they feel about my beliefs (and even more spine tingling pleasant, about my culture and nationality in general).

Kind of interesting you jumped right to terrorism, Warb. I never said anything about terrorism, nor did I even think it. There are plenty of other grievances Islam is responsible for.
