You can only turn this into a Lynch hate thread if you are prepared for me to derail it at every turn (which is an irony as that would be a derailment anyway).

Lynch doesn't need exposition as his films aren't usually linear stories (Elephant Man and The Straight Story are pretty linear mind but they are just two films in a long career and prove he could do it more often if he really wanted to).

On the whole he makes what can only be described as cinematic experiences where if there is a story at all it's just there as a wall space to hang mood conveying sequences on, even Dune (which in any other director's portfolio would be an attempt to hit the big time) is defiantly unconventional (much to the irritation of fans of the books).

If that's not your thing just don't watch his films.

Complaining about the lack of exposition in your average Lynch film is like complaining about the lack of fish in your average cup of coffee.

Naked Lunch was a Chronenberg picture (not sure if there is a book about Lynch called Naked Lynch but there should be).
