Discussion: Hasbro Vintage Collection figures

 (Edited)

Hasbro is releasing a series of “vintage” figures. When I first heard about it, I was quite happy, because I liked the simplicity of the original figures.

But now I see what they are doing.
The figures are NOT vintage.
The packaging is!! The figures look like new figures (complete with male figures with bulging muscles), but they are on vintage style cards.

Is nothing sacred?? Can nothing stay the same??

What do you think?

I agree. I was semi stoked when I heard about this. I thought the idea of the old cards was pretty cool. However, that did all change when I saw the figures. Blech!

I made a mistake.

The male figures do NOT have the bulging muscle problem. I had looked at the back of one of the cards, and the small Luke figure looked too big.
It turns out he just has a puffy shirt on.

It's still the new design figures and not the classic figures. Which is not an entirely bad thing as you'd find swindlers trying to sell unboxed versions of them as the originals and there would actually be some suckers out there who would fall for it.

I don't really like those; if they really wanted to go retro, they would've brought back the inflatable lightsabers.

Give it time. The DVD edition has yet to be released. You never know what can happen.

Ugh, please don't remind me of those!

I wanted nothing more than a lightsaber of my own when I was a kid and even then I knew those things were a bad idea! I could never get the 'blade' to inflate properly (it was always wilting at half mast) and the one time I finally got it right it bust a leak and burst on me. Aarrgh!

I don't remember inflatable lightsabers. I had the plastic lightsabers with the semi-flimsy blades that, when you swing them through the air, they would whistle. I used to unscrew the cap holding the blade to the handle and just carry the handle like a shut-off lightsaber and then I would attach the blade to a flashlight so I could get it to light up. Imagine my joy when they released the sabers in 1995 that actually extended (to a degree) and had a built in sound box and lit up. I was in hog heaven. My friends and I would shut off the lights in the lounge of our dorm and have lightsaber fights in the window so that all the other floors and buildings could see. We were geeks. But we weren't the only ones.

I've still got mine. Its all smashed because out how much I hit with it, but it still whistles. I actually wore the handle to the 12:01 AM Phantom Menace showing I attended.

I destroyed so many of those cheap blades. Bent them to hell. God bless Kenner's replacement policy.

I beat my brother with mine, but he's all right. Everyone knows that lighsaber blades instantly cauterize wounds.

Hey all, I was just in Target and I saw a bunch of these Vintage Figs. They're not entirely bad. But I have a couple of questions...

1. Is only the first series coming out in the plastic keepcases? I ask this because I found a loose Greedo sitting there without the keepcase, but could find no others from that series (or so I'm thinking) outside the keepcase. They had Han, Ben, Leia, and Luke all in keepcases.

2. Did you know that they are also releasing Vintage Collection vehicles and 1/6 scale figures? I saw a 1/6 scale Luke vintage and a Millennium Falcon vintage.

3. Lego is doing the same repackaging some of their vehicles under the Vintage tags. Saw an AT-AT and a Millennium Falcon at Target as well.
