Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!) — Page 161

Incorrect, my opinion is that several other members of this forum including myself do not like star wars, or Star Wars for that matter.

So since your opinion is currently that the 2004 DVD = 'messed up' what's your favorite 'messed up' version of star wars?  Mine's the Blu-Ray.

because the 'Humdinger' will be bigger!

Wait until September 16th to fine out for sure if the transfer for the blu-rays will be the same as 2004. Don't rush to judgement yet. Until then we won't know for sure.

Ken, it's nice of you to admit that people here were right all along.  On other forums you have described us as mean... try to keep in mind that there is a difference between "angry" and "mean".  We are angry, and I think we have a right to be.

But in fact, you have even more of a right to be mad than we do....  for all your gushing and praise for LFL, they've rewarded you with a lousy transfer of the OT.

Puggo I realize that not everyone is happy about the 2004 dvd transfer I understand that. Which is I'm hopping (fingers crossed) that the blu-rays won't have the same problems as 2004. We just have to wait and see what happens on September 16th to know for sure.

If our predictions turn out to be correct on Sept.16 then will our posts from now retroactively become 'sure' and thus not rushed but foresightful?  But I agree it won't be the same, but it will be from the same transfer.

I was hoping that since the previous release was super blue this one would be super purple! 20 years from now you'll have a differently colared release. Messed up DVD, messed up Blu-ray, collect them all!

^ We've already got a super purple one!

I'd say we are going to find out a lot earlier than Sept 16th. These things are going to leak early, just like the 2004 DVDs did.

What makes me laugh is that you kenkraly, along with the other Lucas worshippers over at Blu-Ray.com slated me and others who pointed out the 2004 glitch on the blu-ray preview at comic con along with things from the official screenshots pointing to these being the same old 2004 transfer, saying that we were pathetic for using a video taken of a screen (even though we even used screenshots DIRECT from the original source video). You all said that how the hell can we tell anything from these videos and that we know nothing. But now, all of a sudden since the new 360p youtube video was posted, taken from a camcorder with no direct footage, you are all saying how good the blu-rays look. Here are a few direct quotes:

shelldweller:
From what you can tell by that the footage of the Blu-Ray looks amazing again... really no reason to complain by now.

kenkraly2004:
Agreed no reason to complain by any means. Looking forward to September 16th for sure.

Beast:
All the footage they keep showing in these videos look great. I'm actually astonished how good some of it looks.

georgec:
Agree with everyone that the footage in the video earmullet posted looks pretty solid.

Can't you see the hypocrisy here?

The thing is you slate this site and the members here over at the blu-ray site, constantly tell anyone who dares question the great god george to shut up and that they can't call themselves a true star wars fan, amongst other things, then come back here and act all apologetic as if no one here would have seen any of this crap. You need to take a step back and really see what you are doing.

Adywan  I know I go off the edge a little bit but we are all star wars fans in the end no matter what our opinions are on the series good or bad. Some likes star wars differently than I do some like the UOT some don't Some like the SE some don't , Some like all 6 films some don't , Some like the PT some don't ,  Some like the clone wars tv show some don't. We all have different likes when comes to star wars.

May I suggest a sinkhole cliff on Utapau.

In the past I've somewhat given dude the benefit of the doubt, even though I did put him on ignore several months ago.  However, without logging in, I was just giving the board a quick peruse before I shut the house down and settled in for the night to read Heir.

I'm calling troll on the character and the act.  Hats off to whoever you really are, TFNer.  You had us going for a while.

I think he just wants to be loved.

He knocks us in the forums with most people in, to fit in and be one of the boys and now he's apologetic over here.

I feel sorry for the guy, he has that puppy dog look in his ubiquitous forum photo and I'm a complete sucker for soppy cartoon characters.

I send Ken a Bingohug from over here and hope he enjoys his blu-rays when they arrive.

I for one will not be buying them.

Just had a thought. Do the recently released captures match the Amazon.com trailer? If it does, then we'll be still haunted by this...

Author

I will always be haunted by that, no matter what happens in the future.

Will the Blu-Ray's increased gamma fix at least this issue?

And, yes Frink, I'll be haunted by it still too.

No, a plain gamma increase won't fix this but only make the Emperors slug look even more prominent. This snapshot has had the gamma changed to match the screencaps on the official SW Blu-Ray site. Looks even more shit now.

Well that sucks. Guess we can't even expect the most minor improvement.

Unless they have adjusted the gamma on a shot-by-shot basis. Have all the new screens been shown to use a single setting?

EDIT

Actually nevermind, that wouldn't even help. Keep it dark, it looks the way it does now. Keep it bright and the rest of the image looks like crap. Brighten it till the saber cores blow out and the image looks the worst yet. No real solution. I wonder how they ended up with all the contrast taken out of there? Maybe Lowry's evening-out for the flicker?

Author
Time

Well, here it is from my latest workprint, it still needs some tweaking as I may have gone a bit too far with the contrast in an attempt to conceal the Emperor's head slug but logically, when you increase brightness, you need to increase contrast as well, to compensate for the brightening of the areas that should stay dark:

Let's wait and see what happens on September 16th and know for sure if the lightsabers and other color issues will be fixed or not for the blu-rays. I know that's not saying much but the set is not even out yet. We still have almost a month to go before the release.
